Bizarrely, TP now claiming JFK was a conservative. WHY?
Posted: Nov 3, 2013
A recent Pew poll showed that well over 50% of conservatives could not say just who was in charge of the GOP, i.e., identify their own leader(s). Most conservatives feel an especial need for a leader to follow too. Could this hole have anything to do with their attempts to "adopt" Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and now John Kennedy as their own by twisting and distorting what these men really stood for?
Amusing as the thought of this particular pampered scion of the northeastern elite raving and slathering over the actions of the Democratic Party is, do any of the following sound even remotely TPish?
As one of his first presidential acts, Kennedy asked Congress to create the Peace Corps.
Kennedy called his domestic program the "New Frontier". It ambitiously promised federal funding for education, federal medical care for the elderly, federal economic aid to rural regions, and government intervention to halt the recession.
Kennedy ended a period of tight fiscal policies, loosening monetary policy to keep interest rates down and encourage growth of the economy.
Kennedy mandated an end to housing discrimination wherever federal funding was involved and sent federal troops to desegrate schools by force.
Kennedy started the space program that eventually landed Man on the moon.
Kennedy proposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (passed after his death).
And there's so much more. Below is a link to an article that calls the TP out on this. I was never a great fan of his, but I agree the insult to his memory is too great to ignore. The Tea Party should first stop electing buffoons, and then start voting for leaders they can be proud of. FT
“If by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people-their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties-someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal", then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal."
