the most is that the FDA forced Primatene Mist off the market as a result of the ozone hole fake news. Primatene Mist was the only non-prescription option available for asthma sufferers. In a pinch, you could run into a pharmacy and save a kid's life with it -- which I have personal experience regarding. I am no fan of the FDA.

She had severe asthma when she was younger and a Primatene Mist literally did save her life. I do believe that climate change is natural and cyclical but also that humans worsen global warming, yet also agree that the FDA is big, bloated and greedy.

The way it was originally passed included not only the state mandates for Medicaid expansion that would have kept the poorest people out of the exchanges (which we all know most republican governors refused because not only was it a democrat's plan, but Obama's plan,) but it also provided a pool that was paid into by insurers who had a profit to help any insurer who did not have a profit until the companies could get a handle on how to set premiums in the first few years. Guess how that changed? Marco Rubio introduced an amendment to the budget plan that would put a cap on the payouts to insurers. See article/link. Blaming Obama and saying he lied is absolutely incorrect. The plan would have worked as it was written, but no, the republicans had to get their sweaty little hands on it to make sure it failed. The republican plan will not help anybody except the insurance plans in the long run, so don't kid yourself.

The way I remember it, they also promised it would be revenue neutral and not add to the deficit. Then the Dems passed it. Then they lost their majority. Then Rubio and Pubs (using their majority) passed the budget to keep government from bailing out the insurance companies. (Which wouldn't have been revenue neutral.)

One could say everything went as you would expect. Pubs weren't included and voters felt lied to. It makes sense that they'd vote in the opposing party to sabotage a law they don't agree with.

These representatives need to remember that their job is to represent the people who elected them - not their party! This plan could have worked had the republicans worked on changing some of the parts they didn't like instead of making sure that it would fail by taking out the safety net for the insurance companies to not go bankrupt the first few years until they could set premiums appropriately and if the states had all expanded Medicaid. This all was nothing more than typical Washington political posturing and Trump, McConnell, and Ryan will own anything regarding healthcare in this country from now on! They better get it together and do something that makes all of the people happy, not just the ultra-conservatives who don't care what happens to anyone but themselves.

An unscrupulous insurance company could waste money (on extravagant executive bonuses, for example) then apply for assistance because on balance they lost money in the exchanges.

Do we perhaps have a number here who are all alone in the world and who will never have to worry about how to explain WHY?

Surely there are none still in denial who have children, grandchildren, and others they care about who will have to live with what we leave them? Already, the younger generations will never see the springs and summers we enjoyed almost all our lives.

And it's getting much worse. 2016 was the hottest year planetwide ever recorded, but halfway through 2017 we are on track to beat that.

In Chicago a few extra hot and humid days several years ago killed several hundred people who tried to stick it out without air conditioning. A dome of pressure held the hot air in so that the nights didn't cool off. The unrelieved heat took the more vulnerable first. BUT it turns out that even healthy people can only tolerate unrelieved high temperatures for up to about four 24-hour periods before their bodily systems start failing.

Chicago. Not the southwest, or even Kansas.

Your statistic "2016 was the hottest year planetwide ever recorded" is anecdotal. But you treat it as a science fact.

A true scientist would be asking the following questions:
* How much hotter was it than the average?
* What's the standard deviation of measured recordings throughout the years?
* Does this fall within the standard deviation or is it out of bounds and abnormal?

"Hottest year ever recorded" means 200 years of records out of 2,000,000,000 years, approximately. It doesn't mean much when they go back and change the recorded temperatures, always making past temps cooler and recent temps hotter. They do this even though we have very accurate satellite temperature data for the past 30-40 years.

Even if we wanted to fix the problem, there's no scientific data on how to fix it. "Reduce greenhouse gas emissions!" By how much? Over what time period? No one can tell us that. No one can tell us how much CO2 is contributing to warming. Or how much of a role the Sun plays. Or how much warming is attributed to water vapor. Or the Gulf Stream.

Wouldn't it be horrible if we spent trillions of dollars re-tooling our economy over something that ended up not having any effect on the so-called problem? Couldn't we have spent that money on relief efforts for the poor and displaced in other parts of the world?

In any event, warming isn't the end of the world. Ever been to a greenhouse? Plants love humidity and warmth. That's exactly what we'd get if the planet warmed up a bit. Sure the coastlines may be impacted, but those people can move. The increased plant growth means more food for everyone. No more famine is a worthy goal, isn't it?

So yeah, I'm thinking of my children and grandchildren. Also thinking of the children and grandchildren of people I don't know and don't expect to know.

The real tragedy in Chicago was that people lost power, not that they had humid weather. They could have used the money wasted on global warming prevention to upgrade the power grid.
