Nausea after gallbladder removal

Posted: Jun 28, 2011

I had my gallbladder removed a week ago because of gallstones.  Now I have nausea daily almost all day long.  My doc gave me antinausea medication to help with this, but it makes me very sleepy, which in turn makes working difficult.  Does anyone else have this problem or know someone who does?  I would really appreciate some advice from anyone who can help me rid myself of nausea and not be sleeping all the time from medications.  Does this wear off with time?  I have been tryiing to keep away from greasy foods as I heard that could make me feel ill, but it is not enough and I am reaching out to see if anyone might have some ideas I can try.  I almost would prefer to have my stone filled gallbladder back sometimes.  This is not morning sickness either.  Thank you in advance for any suggestions you can provide.

Ginger or peppermint. Both are natural cures for nausea. I usually drink the diet Canadia Dry Gingerale as it is made with real ginger and sipping it when nauseated really does help alot. Also peppermint is suppose to help nausea but make sure it is real peppermint and not peppermint flavoring

that's why as a kid mom gave us ginger ale with the flu! - never knew that. Tnx! NM anon

Their own brand. It's like...cough syrup for the belly! haha. It really works, works fast, and no drowsiness.

Had mine out laparoscopically. I only get acid reflux now and then that goes away by drinking something, not really gallbladder related.

good luck, feel better soon.

Thank you all - Jane

Thank you all for your help in this. Come to think of it, my mom gave me ginger ale too as a kid when ill. I didn't know about the pepermint thing. I will try all these rememdies and I very much appreciate your help. Thank you again.

Ginger Ale and Saltines - HospitalBrat

I had some problems with a medication last summer that made me feel wretched. I tried some OTC anti-emetics, but they didn't really help (although they tasted pretty yummy!). My doctor also recommended motion sickness tablets. Normally they will also make you drowsy, but there are a few available in less drowsy formulas.

In addition to ginger ale, you can also just get ginger at the grocery store -- pretty cheap -- and cut up a few slices and put it in tea. The guy I was dating at the time last year was from India, and that was what his mother always did. It worked better than the antiemetic.

And Saltines. I ate a lot of Saltines.

I really feel for you!

My Second Job And Gallbladder RemovalSep 10, 2010
Finally after several interviews I had someone take a shot and hire me for a second job!  I was thrilled about this until I found out that the training for this job is the same day as my gallbladder removal.  Now if all goes well I should be home at 1 pm and my training starts at 5:30 pm.  The good thing is that my sister is going through the same training.  So I was thinking since the first few days of training is basically just sitting on my butt I can have my sister take m ...

Vertigo/anxiety/nausea......Been Going On For Almost Mar 21, 2010
Semi-controlled on medications.  Nothing like this has ever happened to me before.  I had to go to the ER because I had so much anxiety I thought I would have a heart attack.  They just gave me Zofran and valium and sent me home, telling me to follow up with ENT and/or neurology.   I had a CT (negative) and an MRI, which I had to repeat because they wanted to get a closer look at my pineal gland.  Now, I'm terrified I might have some kind of a brain tumor becau ...

Hi Fellow MTs:   I was wondering if anyone that has had their GB out has had any pain with the trocar sites that bothered them.  I am 1 month out from GB surgery and it seems as though I have more pain in one of these sites than the others.   It is a slight throbbing type pain and I have good days and bad days with some nausea, but not a lot.   Luckily I have Phenergan for nausea.    I know that some people have GB symptoms after surgery but it w ...

Need Some Advice On How To Treat A Gallbladder Attack.Oct 29, 2014
I am in the midst of an extremely bad gallbladder attack.  I've been dealing with my gallbladder for sometime now.  I had a PIPIDA done a year ago and my gallbladder EF is 13%.  I know I need to have it taken out, but I cannot afford to do it.  I have really crappy insurance with a high deductible and I just can't take the time off from work.  Usually, I get the RUQ ache that wraps around my back.  It hurts, but I deal with it, like I deal with menstrual c ...

Anyone Ever Tried That Hair Removal System No No?Jul 29, 2013
I believe it's called the No No???  It is a hair removal system that supposedly you can use for legs, underarms, and EVERYTHING.  Was wondering if anyone had used it and if it works and how long you are hair-free.  I did notice it had a buffing pad with it and I did try a removal system once where you basically and your legs down with what felt like sand paper to remove the hair, but it was VERY time consuming and I would just prefer a quick shave every couple of days as oppo ...

At the left is the video: TUCSON -- Rowdy students take over a big Tucson school board meeting in protest. The governing board of the Tucson Unified School District was supposed to consider a plan that would make the class an elective, rather than a required class, like it is now.
