For those of you with various health issues, including fibromyalgia, arthritis, etc

Posted: Nov 1, 2013

As an older MT, I started suffering from "aches and pains" as well as some other health issues.  I had been taking 8-12 Tylenol a day and didn't like that idea, because of potential liver damage.  My doctor subsequently put me on tramadol because of the pain issues and I had been taking 1-2 of those a day.

I had been talking to a couple of friends of mine who knew of my health issues and they suggested that I try a relatively new nutritional supplement.  I decided to give it a shot to see if it would help and it has -- My pain has lessened, but in addition, I have lost approximately 13 pounds in the past month!  I gave the list of the ingredients to my doctor and he said there was nothing in these supplements that would interfere with any of my medications and in addition, my cholesterol levels have come way down.  The thing too, that has been amazing is that I don't have to "diet and restrict calorie intake."  I can still eat normally, although I have had to add 80-110 ounces of water daily.  Also, with this supplement, you are discouraged from drinking any kind of soda or anything with an artificial sweetner in it as well.  I might add too, that I am NOT an exercise buff, and while I have lost the weight, the first thing that I noticed was the inches coming off!

Another thing as well, for those of you that might be interested, is I have started a "group" on Facebook, entitled Paleo Phanatics.  In that group, I have tried to provide information on the Paleo diet and  recipies as well.

If you would like more information, please email me, and I will provide you with links on Facebook to both my Paleo group as well as more information on this great supplement called V3, the Happy Skinny Pill.  There is a group on Facebook where people get together and discuss their various experiences with this product and we all want to be healthy, happy, have more energy and best of all, this also helps cut down on depression, which is a BIGGIE with those of us that are MTs :)

Probably has very little to do with the pill you are promoting.

Yep. Same here. I personally have had more positive results with relief of aches, pains, and weight loss using nutrition supplements and a gluten-free, low carbohydrate diet than with any pain pill or other pharmaceutical treatment. I personally do not understand why nutrition is not the standard/first line of treatment for chronic disease. Maybe it's because it's not taught in medical schools. For me, I lost 170 pounds and no longer have hyperglycemia or hypertension. Plus, my aches and pains previously diagnosed as fibromyalgia are very minimal without pain medication.

I've never heard of the Paleo diet but I would be open to learning more about it. I just know for myself personally that when I eat fresh veggies and fruits and yogurt and drink alot of water, I feel way better than when I eat crap and drink soda. I actually cut out soda. Don't even miss it!

Would this Paleo diet help with fertility? I've tried everything else. I think I could do this as long as I could still have coffee and chocolate LOL

Alice - how did you do that? nm - me

There are useful Wikipedia entries to start you off. Then, recommend you read "Wheat Belly," by William Davis, MD. The Kindle edition is $9.45. (You can download a free Kindle reader to your computer or smartphone if you don't have a Kindle.)

You just don't eat anything containing gluten. Gluten is the stretchy stuff that makes bread rise. It s found in wheat and some other grains.

Originally, there wasn't much of it in wheat, but in the latter half of the 20th century, wheat was bred to contain a lot more, and it isn't quite the same. It is, unfortunately, now used in everything from soup to nuts ... literally. You have to read labels for ingredients like wheat, flour, textured vegetable protein, modified food starch or food starch (unless it specifically says corn), barley, rye, kamut, spelt, einkorn, etc.

Rice, buckwheat, quinoa, teff, sorghum, millet, amaranth, and certified gluten-free oats do not contain gluten. If you can eliminate just gluten, you are doing well. That gets rid of most of the problem because foods do not contain a lot of the others. I think paleo eliminates all of them.

No special foods are required, i.e., you do not purchase "gluten-free products" to replace the boxed, prepared, frozen, meals, and canned things you are used to eating. You can simply eat fruit, vegetables, meat, etc.. It is not difficult, but you do have to adjust your thinking about what "edible" means and about food preparation. (Most Americans eat absolute garbage, and it tastes like it, too.)

Shop mostly only in the produce, fish, meat, and dairy sections. It is likely that you will eat less because you won't be ravenous all the time.

I've been an IC for a few years for one company.  I have several health issues, which they were aware of when they took me on.  It seems like the last 6 months or so, I'm getting threatened with termination.  Due to health conditions, I am UNABLE to make production requirements.  I am also UNABLE to work 40 hours a week.     I'm not sure what to do.  My doctor only lists me as PARTIALLY disabled.     Really stuck between a rock and ...

The Crux Of The Issue -- Mental Health IssuesOct 02, 2015
The gunman who carried out the deadly attack on Umpqua Community College was described Friday as a “hate-filled” individual, with anti-religion and white supremacist leanings who has long struggled with mental health issues, law enforcement sources said. Officials said Friday they had recovered 13 weapons tied to the shooter, Chris Harper Mercer, 26. Six were found at the college, seven were found during a search of his apartment -- and all were legally purchased, officials said. ...

Obama For Women's Rights! See Differences In Health Issues... (sm)Nov 01, 2012
OBAMA signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to help women fight back against pay discrimination. He understands that when women are paid less than men for the same work, it hurts the entire family. ROMNEY refused to say whether or not he would have signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law, and Paul RYAN voted against it. OBAMA believes a woman’s health care choices are personal decisions, best made with her doctor—without interference from politicians. ROMNEY believ ...

Arthritis Pain In KneesNov 22, 2010
I was diagnosed with arthritis in my right knee in January and I cannot believe how fast it is progressing.  I now have it in both knees.  Transcribing makes it really ache because of the foot pedal.  I take Vicodin but some days that doesn't help and sometimes it makes me very sleepy.  Does anyone know of anything else I can try?  This is really affecting my ability to get my line counts and therefore my income.  Thanks! ...

My Lab Mix Is Seriously Ill Today Because I Overdosed Him On Arthritis MedMay 08, 2011
I must have been distracted when the vet told me I had to get my dog blood tests every 6 months if he stayed on his arthritis meds. I thought he had poisoned himself eating something out in the yard, but the vet thinks it's the medicine. I was supposed to give him half a pill and for the past several days I've been giving him a whole pill, because I thought he needed it. It can cause stomach ulcers, which in his case are causing acute vomiting and diarrhea. Earlier today I saw way too ...

Minor Question - Finger ArthritisDec 19, 2016
In the grand scheme of things this is a very paltry question, but it's new to me, so would like to hear about any tips or fixes. I'm in my 60s but have never had arthritis, no pains anywhere, even with doing MT for 30 years. I do have the Heberden's nodes on a couple fingers, but again, no pain associated with them.  But one night 2 weeks ago, I got off work and realized my left ring finger was swollen and stiff at the PIP joint. My wedding ring, which I've always been a ...

FibromyalgiaJul 23, 2011
Anyone else out there have fibro?  I have the typical neck and upper back pain, but I have a recent new symptom of pain in the bones in my buttocks.  I've tried every kind of cushion I can think of and propping one side up a little more than the other, but nothing works.  I can't take the vicodin I was prescribed while I'm working, because it makes me too sleepy.  Ultram doesn't even touch it.  Any advice?   ...

Working with this is Killing me....slowly....some days, it is so bad, i can't even concentrate, my muscles ache so bad.  I almost prefer BONE pain than this muscle/nerve pain.  I wish I could take Lyrica because it helped so much, but with hypertension/diabetes, the weight gain on Lyrica was just not worth exacerbating my other health issues.  How many of you suffer from this? ...

Fibromyalgia, Anyone?Mar 24, 2013
I've been out of transcription for over 6 months. When I was sitting at my desk and working, all my muscles would tense and lock up no matter how many times I got up to stretch. Over the ensuing months I was able to relax quite a bit but recently I have decided to start testing again for another MT job and I found out the pain has all returned. I was only at my desk for 2-3 hours and I did get up and stretch but when I tried to get up it felt like the muscles in my lower back and thighs ...

FibromyalgiaSep 14, 2013
Just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, after having systemic lupus for many, many years.  Seems the lupus is in remission, but now fibro has come along.  So painful.  I feel for the people about 20 years or so ago who were told it was just in their heads and given sedatives and treated like it is a psychiatric disorder.  My rheumatologist said yes the medical community has recognized fibro and chronic fatigue syndrome as bonafide diseases for a while now.  They are doing ...

I have neck, shoulder, back, arm, and hip pain and find it difficult to concentrate. What do you do you help you be able to work (I must work) and maintain a fairly active ...

Health Insurance Is A Poor Measure Of Health Care.Sep 14, 2011
On Tuesday, the Census Bureau released its annual report on health insurance coverage in the United States. News media widely misconstrued the data and presented the problems facing the nation's health care system through a distorted lens. Many major news outlets made a basic error when reporting on the Census Bureau study. The Los Angeles Times wrote that "the number of Americans with no health insurance rose in 2010 to 49.9 million from 49 million the year before." But the figure c ...

Health Care Reform-Question About Canadian Health CareDec 03, 2009
So....a friend is for our US health care reform (already retired and on Medicare) because he had no trouble going to Canada to get laser surgery on his eyes so he wouldn't have to wear glasses and states there is nothing wrong with the Canadian system....but, and I'm asking a serious question here, how long do people really wait for emergent surgery if they belong to the Canadian system versus the American system as we have it now? How did Canada get their health care system up and ru ...

Skin IssuesFeb 23, 2011

Weight IssuesMar 25, 2012
Okay, I have always been a medium built girl, somewhat petite at 5'3 and always carried my weight well. Two years ago I quit smoking and packed on 20 lbs. I got busy working out and counting calories, and tried to change my eating habits. Okay, it was gradual, but I lost 10 lbs. Over the course of some months it continued to decline gradually. But this Winter around the holidays I pigged out. Then I went through a transition where I lost my job, quit cooking and eating healthy and jus ...

A very dear friend of my husband and I has gone off the deep end over the past year or more.  He is a full-blown cocaine/crack addict and his family has all but disowned him.  He pretty much does what he wants and is not anywhere near the point where he feels like he needs help.
