Fibromyalgia

Posted: Jul 23, 2011

Anyone else out there have fibro?  I have the typical neck and upper back pain, but I have a recent new symptom of pain in the bones in my buttocks.  I've tried every kind of cushion I can think of and propping one side up a little more than the other, but nothing works.  I can't take the vicodin I was prescribed while I'm working, because it makes me too sleepy.  Ultram doesn't even touch it.  Any advice?

I see a chiropractor. Next, what kind of chair do you have, need to invest in a good one. I have done massage and acupuncture in the past, but chiropractic works the best for me

Thanks! - pkl64

Appreciate it...I've done chiropractic before and it did seem to help some with my other pain...I'll give it another go. As for the chair, I've been looking, but they are SO EXPENSIVE. Maybe I'll be able to get one soon.

Have you been placed on Cymbalta or Lyrica? - Karen

I was diagnosed a little over a year ago by a rheumatologist with hypermobility joint syndrome, fibromyalgia, and myofascial pain syndrome (no, not the same as fibromyalgia). He placed menom Cymbalta, which is his first drug of choice for treatment of fibromyalgia.

My pain is not completely controlled, but fibromyalgia is not my only source of chronic pain. You might want to speak with your doctor about getting on a medication approved for treatment of fibromyalgia.

Cymbalta is an antidepressant that is supposed - to help with pain SM

as well. However, the drug manufacturer decided to tout it now as a fibromyalgia drug. Go figure. Typical money making venture. Does the Vicodin help your pain when you take it when you are not working? If it does, try cutting the dosage in half while trying to work, your body will eventually adjust to it. I have fibro, mostly lower body, chronic pain for years. Take Cymbalta, trazodone, and something similar to Vicodin for it. Before I got treatment, I could barely move, much less be productive with work. I am thankful that I have a doctor who doesn't push the latest "designer drug for fibro" on me. The Lyrica commercial says fibro is from nerve pain. Really? Since when?

I am giving Cymbalta a shot, but am starting low and - maggie

working my way up because I am kind of paranoid to take this medication. There are horror stories all over the internet about the withdrawal symptoms you go through when trying to stop this medication, with one of the nastiest sounding symptoms being what are called "brain shivers." It sounds horrible. My doctor told me that you just wean down on it but it still makes me nervous, especially as I am pretty good at forgetting to take medications every day especially working nights, and have heard the withdrawal can start that quickly.

Have you ever had steroid injections? Better than taking medication and not painful. You can also take Provigil to counteract the sleepiness or try other medications. The steroid injections work great. Good luck. I have not found a good chair with a good cusion as of yet.

The best cushion I have been able to find - magge

was a wheelchair cushion- it was made for people who spend all day in a wheelchair so I figured it would have to cut down on that horrible sore bottom that I get no matter what I use. It helps a bit more than all the other cushions i have tried, anyway.

I have found that taking a break every half an hour helps a great but it is terrible for my production! I went to a higher dose of Vicodin (7.5/700 t.i.d.) and for some reason this does not make me nearly as sleep as the 5/500. Transcribing is very difficult with fibromyalgia. Good luck!

Working with this is Killing me....slowly....some days, it is so bad, i can't even concentrate, my muscles ache so bad.  I almost prefer BONE pain than this muscle/nerve pain.  I wish I could take Lyrica because it helped so much, but with hypertension/diabetes, the weight gain on Lyrica was just not worth exacerbating my other health issues.  How many of you suffer from this? ...

Fibromyalgia, Anyone?Mar 24, 2013
I've been out of transcription for over 6 months. When I was sitting at my desk and working, all my muscles would tense and lock up no matter how many times I got up to stretch. Over the ensuing months I was able to relax quite a bit but recently I have decided to start testing again for another MT job and I found out the pain has all returned. I was only at my desk for 2-3 hours and I did get up and stretch but when I tried to get up it felt like the muscles in my lower back and thighs ...

Just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, after having systemic lupus for many, many years.  Seems the lupus is in remission, but now fibro has come along.  So painful.  I feel for the people about 20 years or so ago who were told it was just in their heads and given sedatives and treated like it is a psychiatric disorder.  My rheumatologist said yes the medical community has recognized fibro and chronic fatigue syndrome as bonafide diseases for a while now.  They are doing ...

Fibromyalgia And WorkingApr 20, 2013
Do any of you MTs or QAs have fibromyalgia or a form of arthritis which causes you to hurt almost daily and be depressed? How do you cope and work? I am so afraid I have developed fibromyalgia (which is something that tends to run in my family), and I am finding it very hard to sit and work 40 hours a week at a computer. I have neck, shoulder, back, arm, and hip pain and find it difficult to concentrate. What do you do you help you be able to work (I must work) and maintain a fairly active ...

For Those Of You With Various Health Issues, Including Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, EtcNov 01, 2013
As an older MT, I started suffering from "aches and pains" as well as some other health issues.  I had been taking 8-12 Tylenol a day and didn't like that idea, because of potential liver damage.  My doctor subsequently put me on tramadol because of the pain issues and I had been taking 1-2 of those a day. I had been talking to a couple of friends of mine who knew of my health issues and they suggested that I try a relatively new nutritional supplement.  I decided to give it ...
