Anybody out there have fibromyalgia?  Just curious to know how you handle the pain and the memory issues.  Thank you to all of you that reply to this message.

I didn't want any medication, so my doctor recommended Yoga stretching. Check with your doctor to see if you are an okay candidate for that. It's practically cured me. I didn't go to classes, just bought a book. And you don't strain to more than you can do--your goal isn't to look like the person in the book! It's very relaxing to boot.

I was diagnosed at age 30 ... - cindy

and now I am 45. At 30, they started me on medication and I have been on tons of medications, some would help and then stop working or did not help at all. I have gained a lot of weight since going on the meds and still have all kinds of problems. I used to take Celebrex 200 mg twice a day every day and that kept the pain tolerable, but I have such GI issues such as irritable bowel, reflux where I sometimes aspirate stomach acid in my lungs at night, gastroparesis and such that I can not take anti-inflammatories at all now (not related to the fibro, had stomach problems all my life). You could start with some ibuprofen or Aleve over the counter. Just make sure if you take anti-inflammatories on a regular basis that you see your PCP regularly and let him know this so he can follow your kidney and liver functions. Over the years, I have developed what the ER diagnosed as gout but the rheumatologist was no so sure it was gout as it was a very atypical presentation. I have been having a lot of swelling in my hands and some other joints lately. I truely believe that I have something other than fibromyalgia, as most of my pain is in my joints and if I do have it, I think there is also something else going on, but no one has ever been able to diagnose me. This all started with pain through my right rib cage area and in the abdomen. After numerous tests, work ups, etc. they said it was neuralgia, which is a crock of a diagnosis, as neuralgia is nerve pain and is only a symptom, not a disease. I wish I could find a doctor I could go to and put everything that is going on with me together and come up with a diagnosis. The problem is that now I have a 20% copay instead of a $20 copay for my insurance and everything is so darn expensive.

I wish you luck and try the ibuprofen. Let us know how you do.

Your story is very much like mine. I was diagnosed about 12 years ago. I have also been diagnosed with gout, had GI problems with Celebrex, etc. However, I have terrible muscle pain every day of my life, particularly in my arms, thighs, calves, etc. I also have advanced osteoarthritis in the cervical spine and throughout my body. I am so intolerant to pain meds, and after only a few days I must discontinue anti-inflammatories due to stomach upset. I have been on disability for almost a year. I have tried massage therapy, but could not tolerate it because of severe muscle pain for days afterwards.

I was diagnosed October 19, 2010 - Cheryl B.

I was completely taken aback. I had no idea. I consider myself lucky. I am now in a chronic pain group, am on high dose vitamins, exercise and am learning to pace myself. It is difficult changing my lifestyle. I am no longer working after doing medical transcription for over 30 years. Diagnosis came as part of an evaluation for a worker's comp claim for cubital and carpal tunnel, along with frozen shoulder and cervical pain.

Anyone else out there have fibro?  I have the typical neck and upper back pain, but I have a recent new symptom of pain in the bones in my buttocks.  I've tried every kind of cushion I can think of and propping one side up a little more than the other, but nothing works.  I can't take the vicodin I was prescribed while I'm working, because it makes me too sleepy.  Ultram doesn't even touch it.  Any advice?   ...

Working with this is Killing me....slowly....some days, it is so bad, i can't even concentrate, my muscles ache so bad.  I almost prefer BONE pain than this muscle/nerve pain.  I wish I could take Lyrica because it helped so much, but with hypertension/diabetes, the weight gain on Lyrica was just not worth exacerbating my other health issues.  How many of you suffer from this? ...

Fibromyalgia, Anyone?Mar 24, 2013
I've been out of transcription for over 6 months. When I was sitting at my desk and working, all my muscles would tense and lock up no matter how many times I got up to stretch. Over the ensuing months I was able to relax quite a bit but recently I have decided to start testing again for another MT job and I found out the pain has all returned. I was only at my desk for 2-3 hours and I did get up and stretch but when I tried to get up it felt like the muscles in my lower back and thighs ...

Just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, after having systemic lupus for many, many years.  Seems the lupus is in remission, but now fibro has come along.  So painful.  I feel for the people about 20 years or so ago who were told it was just in their heads and given sedatives and treated like it is a psychiatric disorder.  My rheumatologist said yes the medical community has recognized fibro and chronic fatigue syndrome as bonafide diseases for a while now.  They are doing ...

Fibromyalgia And WorkingApr 20, 2013
Do any of you MTs or QAs have fibromyalgia or a form of arthritis which causes you to hurt almost daily and be depressed? How do you cope and work? I am so afraid I have developed fibromyalgia (which is something that tends to run in my family), and I am finding it very hard to sit and work 40 hours a week at a computer. I have neck, shoulder, back, arm, and hip pain and find it difficult to concentrate. What do you do you help you be able to work (I must work) and maintain a fairly active ...

For Those Of You With Various Health Issues, Including Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, EtcNov 01, 2013
As an older MT, I started suffering from "aches and pains" as well as some other health issues.  I had been taking 8-12 Tylenol a day and didn't like that idea, because of potential liver damage.  My doctor subsequently put me on tramadol because of the pain issues and I had been taking 1-2 of those a day. I had been talking to a couple of friends of mine who knew of my health issues and they suggested that I try a relatively new nutritional supplement.  I decided to give it ...
