Fibromyalgia

Working with this is Killing me....slowly....some days, it is so bad, i can't even concentrate, my muscles ache so bad.  I almost prefer BONE pain than this muscle/nerve pain.  I wish I could take Lyrica because it helped so much, but with hypertension/diabetes, the weight gain on Lyrica was just not worth exacerbating my other health issues.

How many of you suffer from this?

Before taking Lyrica I was not able to run my hand lightly over my skin without pain. When someone would brush up against me and I would grimace they thought I was kidding. My only real muscle trigger point pain is at about C1-C4 and through to the front on the right side of my chest wall. I know my appetite was out of control on Lyrica. I gained 60 pounds in less than a year. I had to really, really work to get it under control. I walk as exercise, drink a lot of water when I am hungry. It was very hard because I ate like I had worked out in the fields all day (I live on a farm). Thank goodness I got all that off. My HTN is really well-controlled on my meds and the wt loss. For me, absolutely nothing else that has helped me. I know water aerobics in a really warm pool feels great temporarily and is really wonderful exercise too. Good luck. My daughter also has fibro. She has the whole body muscle pain like you have, not so much nerve pain like mine. Wish you the absolute best. If you find something, let me know.

it's slowly killing - me too

It all started when I was 36. That was 4 years ago. I have had to drop down to 20 hours a week because of it. I have found that multiple short breaks and stretching help me, although I'm always at a constant level of pain and discomfort from it. I drag myself around most days, but I always try to put on my game face because people just don't understand because you look "normal."

It's especially bad when my kids bump me or come up and hug me suddenly. That just breaks my heart too.

I also has CFS, and on some days it takes all the energy I have to just take a shower. I am still grateful to be working from home where I can lie down as needed. No way I could work outside the home at this point. I also saved and saved for a hydrotherapy spa, wrote it off on taxes, and it helps temporarily, especially in the mornings. A friend of mine also swears by hanging from a bar for a few minutes and by using 100% authentic shearling slippers and a blanket. I have not tried this yet due to the cost, but she says it has helped her trememendously. She is also on Cymbalta which she says is a lifesaver.

Stress reduction also tends to help me, but it has to be a prolonged time with stress reduction to make any difference. Unfortunately, working as an MT has not made this possible in a long time. I just take it one day at a time and pray a lot too.

I feel for anyone with this horrible debilitating disease that is so very much misunderstood.

Anyone else out there have fibro?  I have the typical neck and upper back pain, but I have a recent new symptom of pain in the bones in my buttocks.  I've tried every kind of cushion I can think of and propping one side up a little more than the other, but nothing works.  I can't take the vicodin I was prescribed while I'm working, because it makes me too sleepy.  Ultram doesn't even touch it.  Any advice?   ...

Fibromyalgia, Anyone?Mar 24, 2013
I've been out of transcription for over 6 months. When I was sitting at my desk and working, all my muscles would tense and lock up no matter how many times I got up to stretch. Over the ensuing months I was able to relax quite a bit but recently I have decided to start testing again for another MT job and I found out the pain has all returned. I was only at my desk for 2-3 hours and I did get up and stretch but when I tried to get up it felt like the muscles in my lower back and thighs ...

Just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, after having systemic lupus for many, many years.  Seems the lupus is in remission, but now fibro has come along.  So painful.  I feel for the people about 20 years or so ago who were told it was just in their heads and given sedatives and treated like it is a psychiatric disorder.  My rheumatologist said yes the medical community has recognized fibro and chronic fatigue syndrome as bonafide diseases for a while now.  They are doing ...

Fibromyalgia And WorkingApr 20, 2013
Do any of you MTs or QAs have fibromyalgia or a form of arthritis which causes you to hurt almost daily and be depressed? How do you cope and work? I am so afraid I have developed fibromyalgia (which is something that tends to run in my family), and I am finding it very hard to sit and work 40 hours a week at a computer. I have neck, shoulder, back, arm, and hip pain and find it difficult to concentrate. What do you do you help you be able to work (I must work) and maintain a fairly active ...

For Those Of You With Various Health Issues, Including Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, EtcNov 01, 2013
As an older MT, I started suffering from "aches and pains" as well as some other health issues.  I had been taking 8-12 Tylenol a day and didn't like that idea, because of potential liver damage.  My doctor subsequently put me on tramadol because of the pain issues and I had been taking 1-2 of those a day. I had been talking to a couple of friends of mine who knew of my health issues and they suggested that I try a relatively new nutritional supplement.  I decided to give it ...
