Traveling to eastern states in the fall and need

Posted: Apr 15, 2015

Am planning a trip in October to several eastern states, cities, Vermont, Maine, Boston, Martha's Vineyard, RI and really need an idea on what the weather might be like then so can hopefully pack appropriately or close to it. Have tried researching some on line but just basically picking up what the weather is now. Any Eastern folks, can you give me a heads up on this? Thanks. ;

The weather can be pretty variable in the NE in October. It ought to be coolish in October, but on a nice sunny day you might be able to get away with shirt sleeves or light outerwear. Nighttime will likely be on the cool side almost everywhere. Remember that Maine and Vermont are considerably north of RI and Boston.

We travel to Maine in Sept or Oct almost every year, and have never managed to cut back on our packing. I always pack no sleeves, short sleeves, long sleeves, sweaters, hoodies, tights, etc. You want to be able to peel off or add layers.

We have had snow as early as September some years in Maine. September 2014 we were peeling off layers.

Will you be visiting Acadia National Park in Maine? It's so beautiful! Block Island, RI is also beautiful. I have never been to the Vineyard, but would love to go.

It's beautiful in the NE in the fall. Wishing you a wonderful trip!

Says nothing about Acadia National Park but - this is what it does say

Travel through southern coastal Maine where we will visit Kennybunkport and York. Have no idea where Acadia is but so many things to see and do. Going first to Virginia, then to Hershey, Pa, Pocono Mts, Hudson River Valley, visiting FDRs Hyde Park, Val-Kill (Eleanor's Roosevelt's cottage), Lexington, Concord, Boston, Cape Cod, Newport RI, Mystic Seaport. Lacking these states (and Hawaii) I have been to probably all others. The draw here for me on this particular trip was Hyde Park most of all. Thanks for the information, will certainly follow suit.

Sounds like you're doing mainly the New England states and some Midatlantic states. There is a considerable difference in temperature between the Midatlantic states and the New England states, but it's all gorgeous in October! You don't say if you'll be doing any in November, but most of the leaves in New England and Midatlantic have dropped by then, so it's not as pretty. You don't say how long you'll be there, but sounds like you'll be extremely busy. Hope you'll be there at least a few weeks.

IMHO, Martha's Vineyard is over-rated.

Block Island, RI, is extremely lovely, but they got way too expensive for our budget, so we stopped going. If you're going to be in Maryland at all, I recommend Assateague Island. We used to camp there amongst the ponies.

I hope you have a big budget--some of the areas you're talking about are very expensive. There are plenty of inexpensive places to stay and eat, so check those out and save the "touristy" places for just a drive-through maybe. You don't have to spend a lot of money--you can go on picnics and things like that.

Enjoy!

Not budgeting, this is a escorted tour I am - taking, all paid up front

All places traveling to are planned out prior to going. The trip is a total of 12 days starting first of October. Just checked and on the 12 days we are gone there are 11 breakfasts, 5 lunches and 5 dinners included and the rest you buy. As far as trips, which I love to do, have an Orlando trip coming up in June and have everything paid up front for that prior to my going with the exception of gas and food. That is on my own, not a tour. I posted before about traveling and take about 3 trips per year and pay in increments. You can even visit Mickey Mouse the same way, in installments. Did that about 4 years ago.

really help keep you toasty on those chilly windy days. Rain gear is a good idea too.

Traveling Abroad, Obama Repeatedly Calls Americans Lazy, RacistSep 08, 2016
It's been plain since the beginning of his political career that both the President and the First Lady harbor very deep-seated anti-American feelings. I realize that this is something so incomprehensible that a lot of Americans can't get their arms around the idea. An anti-American US President? It couldn't be, could it?! Well, yes it can. Most people had NO idea what they were really voting for when this man was elected, they were so caught up in electing the first black ...

Fall GardensAug 02, 2010
Is anyone planting their fall garden and if so, what are you planting? I have a bed dug and tilled, now I am just wondering what to plant. It's my first fall garden. I am in zone 6, first frost about mid-October. My concern is that there will not be enough sunshine. My backyard gets about 6-7 hours in midsummer, with trees and buildings and hills all around. What do you plant now to harvest in falltime? ...

My Husband Is Convinced That It's All Going To Fall ApartMar 02, 2011
He is convinced that our economy is going to collapse and that there is going to be severe social unrest.  Last year he wanted to start stockpiling.  Now he wants to increase the speed at which we're stockpiling because all of a sudden he thinks we only have until the end of this year.  He bought a gun, I guess to protect our stockpile.  This morning he said he wants to buy silver so we have some kind of tradeable currency in our "grab and go bags."  He also mention ...

Was buying a gift last week online... either Amazon or eBay, I forget.  An ad for a *free sample* of "Dermitage Advanced Skin Renewal" system comes up, disguised as an offer from the website.  "Just pay $3.97 for shipping", and supposedly you get a free trial size of this anti-aging skincare product.  So, I bite.  I figure, $3.97 isn't much; it'll be fun to try out this product. Dermitage package arrives today.   The invoice still says "14-day free tri ...

Requesting Prayer After A FallMar 13, 2015
I posted a few days ago on the Health Board. I had a very bad fall down icy cement steps last Friday. My ankle was terribly swollen, and I have a bad abrasion on the top of my foot. Later I posted, saying things were looking better. Today the condition seems worse again. The top of my foot is red and very warm. I have been on antibiotics since last Sunday. The wound on the top of my foot was looking much better and beginning to dry out. Now tonight it looks like it may be infected again ...

Boehner Tells House G.O.P. To Fall In LineNov 11, 2012
From the NY Times: "On a conference call with House Republicans a day after the party’s electoral battering last week, Speaker John A. Boehner dished out some bitter medicine, and for the first time in the 112th Congress, most members took their dose. Their party lost, badly, Mr. Boehner said, and while Republicans would still control the House and would continue to staunchly oppose tax rate increases as Congress grapples with the impending fiscal battle, they had to avoid the n ...
