Onion Fingers Smell

Wish we had a food board, because on the gab board things get kind of heavy, but for anyone interested: Hubby and I chop onions all the time and have trouble removing the smell from our fingers, no matter what we do with soap and water. Well, I had read somewhere that putting salt on your hands/fingers and mixing with water to make a coarse paste works. And darn it, it works. It's not perfect, because the onion smell gets under the nails, but it sure takes the edge off. Just wet your hands, then sprinkle salt (coarse is best if you have it), and rinse thoroughly while rubbing under cold water. It's not perfect, but it sure helps!;

[ In Reply To ..]I have a little stainless steel thing that also gets rid of odors on hands like onion and garlic and even fish. I bought it off Amazon for $2 or $3 a couple years ago. Works great, gets rid of all the odor. It's round, shaped kind of like a specialty bar of soap.

[ In Reply To ..]The drier your skin is, the more it retains the smell as well. If you have a stainless steel sink, you do not need to buy the handheld thing, just rub your hands on the sink. I never seem to have cheap salt in my place so would probably not be able to use the salt paste.
I have one of those as well, but you could also just use a spoon - rub your fingers on it under running water..nm
