I have posted 2 times previously about the outside cat and his eye issues, trying to get him treated. Fed him for about 2 weeks and finally able to give a pat on the head, little touch on the back. I got up my nerve this morning after Googling last night about how to catch a feral. In the south but put on my coat, got me my husband's leather gloves and put morning food out. Had the cat carrier sitting upright close by. It was now or never. Grabbed that little goober and in the cage he went. Talk about hissing and fighting- him not me! So I go off to the vet. Girl takes semi-feral in other room because more there to handle what I said was semi-feral. The vet comes back with said cat in his arms, calm, purring almost (the cat, not the vet now) and unbelievable to me. The kitty got eye ointment instilled, did not need shot because not URI and kitty's eyes cleaned. When we got back and I opened the cage door off he ran, I thought never perhaps to return. Wrong, he was back later today for his meal he missed this morning. I am supposed to instill the eye ointment twice a day. Wish me luck but kitty was so, so nice with the vet and I am happy perhaps getting his eyes some help.;

[ In Reply To ..]buy l-lysine (maybe its just lysine) at the health food store, i get a large bottle for $22 and it lasts a long time, and sprinkle about 1/4-1/2 tsp on wet food every time you feed the cat. it boosts their immunity and works just as good as an antibiotic. in fact, years ago the vet gave me some tube-style kind for $13 that only lasted a week. every time the weather changes hot to cold/cold to hot, my cats go through this sneezy, runny eye thing and i give them the lysine on their food for about a week and it goes away. =^..^=

Feral and Stray Cat Info - CalMT

Also wanted to let you and anyone else who comes across a stray or feral cat know about a national organization called Alley Cat Allies (www.alleycat.org). Their website has a wealth of information about feral/stray cat care, especially regarding TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return). They might even be able to put you in touch with someone local with some experience and additional resources to share thru their Feral Friends Network.
I have my doubts about being able to instill the eye ointment as it can be pretty challenging for even a tame indoor cat! So you might need to wait until you are able to handle him more easily. But it sounds like he was once owned by someone and either lost or abandoned rather than a true feral and that you are making good progress in getting him to trust you.
I did want to mention that I did a quick google search for "vitamin C and cats" and found some info that there is little evidence of effectiveness in improving conditions in cats, and there is the potential for bladder stone formation and iron overload. The best thing, of course, is to double check with a vet before giving any medication or supplement as what can be helpful or harmless for humans may not be the case for other species.

[ In Reply To ..]The new friend, Taffy, showed back up but would hardly have any contact with me, a little pat on the head, did not even come in close for the treat part of his dinner tonight. He might have been all purry with the doctor but different when he is at my door. Probably will contact vet tomorrow about possibly some oral medicine that can be mixed with his food. Vet suggested about neuturing today. I am going to check out the web site the previous poster offered. Thanks people!
