Does anyone save

by ordering eyeglasses on line? Frames, whole pairs? It is just so expensive to go to my optometrist... seems like I never get by with less then 300 bucks, even with vision insurance.

[ In Reply To ..]I used Zenni Optical in the past. They were fine, paid about $20 for glasses. The only problem was it took about 3 months to get them. I don't know if that's a regular occurrence, though. I have really, really bad eyesight, so my lenses take some extra work.
I'd like to try glasses.com, because they have a deal where you can order 4 frames to try out for 7 days...that way, you can be sure you like what you're getting.
Also, just a heads-up, when you get your prescription, make sure your eye doc or tech writes down your pupillary distance on your prescription. You will need that measurement to order.
Question, where are you going now to get your glasses? Independent eye docs do tend to be over-priced. Visionworks is also overpriced, imo. Lenscrafters can be reasonable, but they try to hard to upsell AND they have a record of not making glasses correctly. I ended up going to Pearle Vision earlier this year (my Zenni pair broke and I needed a check-up anyway) and got everything for just under $200 with insurance.
Btw, my Zenni pair broke because I got hit in the face with a door. The impact was such that any pair from anyplace would have broken, so it wasn't that the frames were subpar or anything.

I went to America's Best and got two pairs of glasses (same quality as the 300 dollar glasses) for 69 dollars!!! Yes that's right 69 dollars. Actually, that's the sale now in place. I went a few months ago and it was 89 dollars for two pair...PLUS FREE EYE EXAMINATION. or you can bring your prescription right there and they will still sell you two pairs of glasses for 69 dollars. If you are near one, you must go, its really worth it.

[ In Reply To ..]I just ordered two pairs from eyebuydirect.com, buy one get one free. I've ordered from them in the past and am quite happy. For both pairs it was $54.95. These were bifocals - single lenses are a lot cheaper. They have a huge selection of frames. It takes about 10 days to get them.
You do have to measure the distance between your pupils, but all you need is a ruler and a mirror.

[ In Reply To ..]I like your ruler + mirror idea! I never would have thought of that and will pass it along to friends. Unfortunately, I personally can't see that far. Plus, I'd be the goof who would end up poking her own eye out. But, very smart idea just the same!

Never tried lenses, but I get the cheapest at EyeMasters.
