Is $75.00 for 60 minutes of dictation good?

I am about to test for a company that pays $75.00 per 60 minutesof dictation. Is that good pay?

At the very least, I would say x2 - which would be 120 minutes to trascribe, which would be $37.50 per hour.

x3 would be 3 hours = 25 per hour.
4 hours = 18.75 per hour.

Me personally... yeah, I'd say that was good.

can you play it in ExpressScribe? Maybe you have to time stamp it, and the file(s) won't open in a program that automatically puts in time stamps, so you've got to do it manually - and then what if there are 4 speakers, and some of them are really hard to understand because they're being interviewed outside a sawmill or something?

I'd say take it - but be open to the possibility it may not be all that easy to get through in a reasonable amount of time...

That sounds like a scam to me. Most MT service cos will pay anywhere from 6-8 cpl, but I have never heard of anyone paying by the hour for transcription, and certainly not $75/hr!!

It's $75 to transcribe 60 minutes of dictation. That can take a good MT between 3-4 hours to transcribe, but it would also depend on audio quality. Where I work, level 3s were expected to do 120 minutes in an 8-hour day. At the $75 rate, if it takes you 4 hours to transcribe 60 minutes of dictation, you'd make $18.75 an hour.

It's a flat $75 for the total transcription, - not $75 an hour.

As a rule of thumb, they used to say 1 hour of dictation would take 3 hours to transcribe. If the dictator is clear it will take less, if it's a difficult dictator, it will take more. But going by that, you would be making about $25 an hour which sounds fair.

I swiped this from the board a few years ago and felt it was time to bring it back - it just never gets old (especially for MT's who have doctors that strictly adhere to these guidelines - LOL!)
