Fun topic-Tattoos, do you have any?
Posted: Mar 5, 2013
I'm in my 30s and thinking of getting a tattoo. Do you all have any and where are they and how old when you got one? I'm thinking of one on my foot.

I am 42 and thinking about getting one - never had one before

I just cant think of anything that would mean enough to want to look at it on my body the rest of my life. My daughters are all tattooed up, and I realy do not like the look of that, but always wanted a small one somewhere.

I actually just made an appointment to get my first tattoo and I'm 50. My daughter has one and is getting another one. This will be my only one. It's going to be a paw print and halo for my deceased cats.
I got my one and only (first...) tat for my 42nd birthday - Not sure about a second one

My last name starts with M so I found a reproduction of a capital letter M from The Book of Kells which is an illuminated manuscript from the 10th century that resides in Trinity College in Dublin (I'm of Irish descent). It's one that no one else has and it looks pretty cool. Hurt getting it done, but it was worth it.
I think about a second one every once in a while but haven't found a second image I'd want to be "married" to yet.
Oh, and it is on the back of my shoulder - where it is only seen when I want it seen

I am mid 30s and got my first one when I was around 17. I got most of the tattoos that I have last year, I guess I went through something or another. I don't regret them or anything, I like them. The whole top portion of my back is covered, my lower stomach, wrists and one foot and I have to say the foot HURTS. I love the feel of getting a tattoo but NOT the foot, so beware!
I also had my two kids sign a piece of paper and had that tattooed on me, so I have their handwriting on me, pretty cool.

I'm considering my first one and my girlfriend suggested one in a fleshy area first to be sure the pain isn't too much the first time. Problem is I'm trying to lose 40 lbs and am unsure how something on my side or stomach would look after I lose weight. Will it change the look/shape if I do it before I lose weight??
Yes, it will change - sm

It is going to stretch or shrink depending on your skin at the time of the weight. My husband got a biceps tat and he had huge biceps at the time. He lost about 40 pounds and the tattoo got so small that you could no longer see the writing in it.
I have them on my lower stomach and I gained a little weight and maybe it made it wider, I'm not sure. Probably better to gain with a tat than to lose though, as with losing it shrinks.

I never thought I would have tattoos. When I left my husband and felt like I wasted 20 years of my life, I had No Regrets tattooed on my wrist. Its in a very pretty font. I then got a rosary on my foot, which I love and on the other foot, praying hands with my grandparents initials. The feet do hurt a lot!

In my life, I've had 3. The first on my ankle at age 18. It's okay. The 2nd was on the back of my left shoulder at age 24, and it was a disaster. It was supposed to be a small cherub (1st mistake was getting something that was trendy, and at that time, everything cherub/angel was very popular). It came out horrible, but luckily was easily covered up with clothing. I finally had this covered up in my late 30s with a very large floral tat that covers the entire side of my back, wrapping around my waist. It's absolutely beautiful, and the artist did an amazing job covering up the old tat (which is not as easy as it sounds); HOWEVER, I have put on some weight since I had it done, and unfortunately it's not as beautiful as it could be if I dropped the extra weight.
Anyhow, here's the advice I promised:
1. Get it somewhere that you can easily cover it up if you don't want it to be seen (i.e., in the office, at church, in formal wear, etc.).
2. Do NOT get something trendy. Something that is popular now can make you look dated in 10 years.
3. Do not get it somewhere on your body that can sag with time. A rainbow on your butt now can turn into a multicolored smile years from now.
4. Stay away from names unless they are your children's (or a tat in memory of someone).
5. Tramp stamps... Stay away from the low back area unless that's your thing.
6. Most important.... please, please research your artist! A good one will meet with you for a consult before starting work. Ask to see examples of his/her work and see if you can find feedback on the internet. They might be considerably more expensive but definitely worth every penny, especially if you're thinking of getting a tat of a picture of someone. Just Google "bad portrait tattoos" and take a look.
Good luck to you, and have fun!
Yes, I have 2 - ayn

First one on outside of my ankle at age 34. Second one on right shoulder at around age 40. I love both of them and will probably get another when I decide on a design and location to place it.
Word of caution -- foot is going to hurt - a LOT. No padding between skin & bones...
Other poster had very good advice. Pick your design carefully -- Personally, I believe a tattoo should "mean something" to the person getting it. It is a personal statement you are making and should be considered permanent - so choose wisely. I would say don't get anything "trendy", but my reason is not because it will date you but rather because it should be something that makes an individual statement and should not be some cookie-cutter design that you just think is pretty or cool. Research your artist and have them draw up example(s) beforehand so you can be sure you will be completely satisfied with the final work.
Good luck - and enjoy!
Tattoos that "mean something" - Me

I agree, they should mean something and you probably won't regret them. My very first tattoo was a rose that meant nothing whatsoever. It withstood the test of time and still looked fine, but I just thought the design was tacky and got it covered. Now, every single of my tats mean something to me and I love them. I have quite a few!
I personally like my tats to mean something to ME and maybe other people don't understand them. I love sayings and most of my writing is in Latin with my tats. I also have my EX-best friend's name tatted on me, pretty big, but I STILL don't regret that, because even though he and I are no longer close, it still represents s time in my life that I want to remember.
I have a great friend who is a tattoo artist and when he tats me, he knows all of my tattoos mean something. He will sometimes ask me what it means and I will tell him "nothing" just playing and he says..."Give me a break, I know you, every tat you have means something."
I'm 63, and I'm considering getting a tat. (Just a - cute little shoulder flower or something.

Be careful they are addictive. I am now up to 4. I have a Chinese symbol for dream on my left ankle.
On my left upper chest, above my breast, I have one to remind me of the fire I went through.
On my left lower back I have a hibiscus. BEAUTIFUL!!!
On my right shoulder, I have a Gaelic angel to remind me of my heritage. It has a lot of color and I get a lot of comments on it.
All of my tattoo's can be covered by clothing if need be.
I got my first one at 52. The one on my shoulder hurt like *&%$.
Noooo. I don't even have pierced ears. nm - Tatless in Tulsa
I have no tattoos and probably never will, but - grits

that doesn't stop me from designing the ones I want and planning their locations. I'd like species and breed-specific pawprints for my pets, a section of music from my favorite song, a picture representation of another meaningful song, a gecko on a leaf (representative of DH and me), and my mother's signature.
I doubt I ever get any of them, though; I'm a wiener when it comes to pain. :)

TattoosJul 30, 2013 Hey gals (and guys) :-) Thinking of getting my first tattoo for my 40th birthday. Was wondering, for you tattoo lovers out there, how many tattoos do you have, how old were you when you got them and what are they of/what do they mean?

How much difference do you think any candidate can make under the present system? It is said that every senator, from the time they take office, has to spend 1/3 of their time raising money for the next election. Once in office they then have to "pay back" their donors in some way. Would you like to see the system change and how do you think it would affect politics?
