Who is the most interesting person you have ever met?  Why?

OR:  Who is the most influential person you have ever met and why?  Smile

For me the most interesting person I ever met was when I was in college.  To fill in some elective hours I was suppose to take 9 credit hours of history.  I registered late one semester and the Latin American history class (Mex-Black American) I wanted to take was filled up.  All that was left was African America history.  Well it was fantastic and informative and I think I learned and will forever remember that class but only because of the professor.

He was a little old man that spoke so elloquently and had such a passion for his class.  He had real life experiences that he could connect to our lessons and enlightened the whole class as to the history and culture of the African Americans in a way that was illuminating!  I learned so much about our country in just that class.  He passed just a couple of years later.  I've had a lot of professors, but hardly any with a real passion and LOVE for his subject as this man.  His spirit and passion was infectious.

your story reminded me of one of my best classes. I took a world geography course in college, which I assumed would be the most boring class I would ever take. The teacher did such a great job of relating everything to current events, explaining why the borders are where they are, rather than just where they are, and the history behind it. It is one of the most interesting classes I have ever had and, in the process, I managed to learn where all of the countries were, as well. :D

Really good teachers are a rare find... - mmmmm

and the really sad part is that I can't even remember that professor's name.

The most interesting person I have yet met was the late Kurt Cobain. Yes for real.

We were in Seattle at a coffee house in the wee hours of the morning and he was there too. I wasn't star struck or anything, but acknowledged that I knew who he was and that I was indeed a "fan". He was sweet and told us to come and hang with he and his friends.

We talked and talked and he impressed me as kind of a person with a burden on his heart. He said he hated what his music had become, but kind of laughed it off. It was sad really, at least in hindsight I think it's sad. He had a poetic way of speaking (spatterings of 4-letter words of course).

I don't know if he was high, he acted straight as an arrow, but talked and talked with us like we were old friends reconnecting. It was a cool experience. When we said our goodbyes he hugged us with sincerity and his "thanks for the coffee and conversation" was real.

He didn't have an influence on my life per se, but after his suicide, the conversation made me think that he was a sad and did indeed have a burden on his heart. I have ever one of Nirvana's CDs. Never went to one of their concerts.

That is really cool. My nephew was killed in a car accident... - ndmt

Christmas Eve 1999, and to this day je has a Kurt Cobain poster hanging on the wall of his bedroom (he was a fan). I often wondered if they met & what kind of talks they had. You kind of provided an insight into what it might have been like.

Our flight was delayed in Denver and we were having a drink at a airport bar. We saw that "Steve-o" guy from Jacka## and he was plastered! We didn't say a thing to him, but he noticed us glancing over at him and very rudely yells out "well what the f** you gonna buy me a drink or not? or are just gonna keep staring at me?"

I said "NOT" and turned away. He called us some names, the bartender called security, but before they got there he had stumbled on away.

Not an influential or impressive meeting, but it's my "celebrity encounter". He was a jerk!

My husband saw Prince once in Dallas I believe - sm - ECMT

got close enough to smell him, said hi to him, Prince acknowledged him (had a lady with him and a very large bodyguard) DH said he was the nicest smelling man he'd ever smelled. (and he was dressed quite nice too as is his style).

I cannot think of anyone at the top of my head other than my mom in terms of someone affecting my life, etc. I did have a great art teacher I admired in HS (not romantically). Certain celebs dying affect me sometimes, don't know why, not like I know them. Last one to really upset me was Natasha Richardson, maybe because we were close in age, or maybe because I had a skiing accident about 15 years ago, fell getting off the lift, hit the back of my head hard on the ice there at lift, blacked out for a second. Proceeded to keep on skiing and drove 2 hours home and never went to the doctor, and I am alive and well, whereas the same thing killed her; makes no sense.

but related and nonpartisan (I hope). How much difference do you think any candidate can make under the present system?  It is said that every senator, from the time they take office, has to spend 1/3 of their time raising money for the next election.  Once in office they then have to "pay back" their donors in some way.  Would you like to see the system change and how do you think it would affect politics?      ...

Serious question:  Does anyone ever wonder why you exist.  I mean what is the purpose of life.  I have no kids, don't live near family.  I get up, walk to the computer, turn it on and work, and work, and work, and work.  Oh yeah, pay bills, go grocery shopping, and cook.  Have a DH but he doesn't work (lack of jobs in the economy).  My family is across country, his family is in another state.  Have no friends.  Sometimes I feel like I just e ...

skyrocket, not because of ACA but the uncertainty on if they will get paid through subsidities with the republican plan.  A big part is the pubs want to remove the mandate that everyone have insurance. What folks don't understand is that was the whole idea of the mandate.  You can't just have sick people have insurance.  I know you folks on the pub side will disagree with this idea yet you have no problem with people losing insurance if they have preexisting conditions ...

We Need A New Topic To Discuss And DebateMay 08, 2011
On my mind has been the stealth helicoptor that was left behind in the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden. I think the young heroes on that raid just got a little too anxious on that one. We could talk about whether or not America tortures people, waterboarding, etc. I believe that torture isn't right, whether it's being done to or by American soldiers. Another topic I wouldn't mind discussing is whether Americans disagree about politics more these days than in the past. ...
