Do you text message?

We have unlimited texting. DH and DS and the 2 girls use it all the time. I prefer to talk.

What about you?

We also have unlimited texting and while DH always says, why don't you just CALL him/her, (DD and DS) we text all the time. They travel back and forth to school and work and when they get there they just shoot be a quick text telling me they got where they were going okay.

I loved it, but had to give it up because it killed my - thumbs (severe osteoarthritis).

What's weird is, typing on a regular PC keyboard doesn't bother my thumbs at all. But texting? OUCH! It was nice to be able to check & answer emails with my phone, but the pain wasn't worth the convenience. So I removed it from my phone's capabilities in order to save a little on my phone bill each month.

this way when he started JHS out of our neighborhood and would no longer be ferried back and forth to school by me, I could have peace of mind knowing he'd have a way to contact me quickly and vice versa. For $20 a month, it's worth it for the unlimited texts and IMs, plus 150 minutes of talk each month that he knows he is not to use unless it is an emergency situation. Added bonus of his phone is that I have total control of who can contact him, who he can contact and the times of day he can be contacted. It's fun for him to text me, my mom or his aunt, makes him feel like a "big kid," even with the restrictions I set.

While I don't mind texting my son back and forth while he's on the school bus, I have to admit my dislike of cellphones in general, as they are an avenue for portable rudeness.

I feel a cellphone is for convenience in an emergency situation. I find it unbelievably rude when folks are out in public, such as stores, on a bus, eating in a restaurant, driving their car, etc. and they are talking on their cellphone.

I have taught my son to only use the talk feature of his cellphone in case of emergency to contact me or the police. He can text me whenever he needs to and I can quickly reply back. I have also taught him not to use chatspeak when texting. He knows what "l8r, brb, gr8" and so on mean, but he makes full use of the keyboard on his cellphone, inserts commas, periods and capitalizes.

If my kids want to contact someone, they can do like how we did it in the 'olden' days - use the telephone at home or *gasp* write a letter.

I don't even know how. At the end of the TEA party I attended in April, they told us to all text a certain number at once. I was the only idiot in the crowd who didn't know how to text. good grief.

because most of those "text a certain number" numbers come with an access charge that is not covered by some texting plans, so it was a blessing in disguise for you really.

I have just deleted an entire thread of a message talking about hate and racism directed towards one party. I do not want to believe a poster posted just to get an argument going with name calling of the other side, but that is what the entire thread turned into. I am in the process of cleaning up the board. I have not finished yet. I have been deleting posts from all sides (that is both conservative and liberal). Stop insulting/ridiculing posters. Seems like the board is filled with thread after thread of posters acusing others of being other people. I am writing this to hopefully prevent someone else from feeling the pain that I feel or your beloved pet from suffering unnecessarily. My 8-year-old golden retriever became ill this past week.
