Nope. Dinner is anywhere from 6-9. Breakfast and lunch are totally haphazard - NM

Just dinner - time

Monday and Tuesday I make a multicourse dinner; chicken, potatoes, veggie or pork chops, etc. I have meat and potatoes guys at home. I don't cook on Wed. Thursday we do take out. Friday and Sat. I do something simple like tacos or burgers and I make breakfast for dinner on Sunday nights.

It's very important to us to sit down for a meal at the end of the day. I work the night shift so that helps too as far as having time to cook.

Not really - would like to

I work days, husband used to work nights. By the time he gets up, I've usually already had lunch. Sometimes, I'll want dinner at the time he wants lunch and we can eat at the same time, but even that's not on a regular basis. He's disabled now, home all the time, but he's still on his night sleep/wake schedule. The only time he's up during the day is when he has doctor visits. When we had kids at home, it was much easier to have regular meal times. Now, we just eat when we're hungry.

Probably depends on health? - wordie

At this point in my life I'm now living alone and although older am generally in pretty good health. So I eat when I'm hungry and don't really look at the clock. But I will say that a couple of my good friends, a brother and sister who now live together and are in their 60s and 70s, eat their meals at the exact same time every day. This is because the brother has type 1 diabetes and has to be very specific about when he takes his insulin compared to when he eats food. I suppose as people get older, health concerns may dictate this kind of schedule.

We generally do--sm - anon

My evening shift starts at 6 so I am normally rushing to get dinner on the table around about that time. When the kids are home, they know they are allowed to get their lunch at 11. Two generally wake up pretty early and I was tired of being asked when they could have lunch so now it is ingrained in them that at 11 they have permission to enter the kitchen to eat. My 14 yo daughter has type 1 diabetes so that also helps to dictate the time of meals because she needs a gap between dinner and bedtime.

So I'm up late at night working on my website or articles after my MT shift. We often skip breakfast, each lunch around 2-3 and dinner around 9, when we're not out at a media event or restaurant opening :)

Food writer? How interesting. Who do you write - your blogs for?

How often do you go out for an event or restaurant opening? Do you live in a big town and are there many for you to attend? Tell me more.

I'm impressed; I really am. I am a foodie. Although I canot quite pull it off, I have three friends who cook like Julia Child. They invite me to cook with them, but I am too intimidated. When it's my turn to entertain them, I take them to a nice restaurant. I would love to see your blog. I take most of the culinary magazines and dream of what it would be like to cook like that!

Answers: I actually only started my blog last year, though I've been - writing for magazines for 8 years.

Where I live in Phoenix there's always so much happening, especially now - culinary festivals, media events, resort openings, menu previews, cocktail and wine dinners. I'm also a travel and beverage writer so I get invited to stay at hotels and try out the restaurant (super fun) and judge chef and cocktail competitions. Between now and next Sunday, I have a photo shoot to promote a local art exhibit, a wine auction event, cocktail seminars for the Arizona Cocktail Festival, a beer pairing/cocktail dinner, a CrushBrew Festival, and an Arizona wine event. I actually love to cook but have been so busy that I haven't had a chance lately, so that category needs more recipes.

Fortunately, I do QA with a "true" IC schedule so my MT work is flexible.

How I got into it - I was pretty lucky: I used to be an avid contributor to a Boston food site and when I moved to AZ, a local magazine needed a food writer, liked my posts and offered me a job.

And, unexpectedly, the new site has brought me business too. My latest assignments ("Arts and Smarts" for a local apartment guide and two articles for a national luxury resort magazine) contacted me because they liked my website :)

My website is WriteOnRubee.com and I launched it in April of 2015.

It's just me and hubby. Breakfast, we eat together around 7 a.m.--we both work. Lunch we're both working. Dinner is usually around 7-7:30 p.m. I have just one rule. I want to be done with dishes by 8 p.m., so I can get my jammies on an chill.

No set breakfast or lunch time - everyone gets their own here

unless it is a special occasion. I try to have lunch near noon, but work and other stuff change that. I aim for 6 pm for dinner. When the kids were kids, breakfast was before school, lunch around noon when they were home and dinner was around 6.

Growing up my dad wanted dinner on the table at 6, now he's more flexible(only took 50+ years of marriage).

We try to eat our dinner around 5ish - !

Sometimes there is just a late breakfast & dinner...other days there may be breakfast, lunch & dinner. Just depends on how the day goes.

I do have a friend that is VERY prompt with 3 meals & 3 snacks, but it for health issues & has kept his wife from having to take medications for her diabetes. They also adhere to the same schedule when travelling. Kudos to them for being so diligent.

I'm not rigid about it, but more or less. - sm

If there's something that changes the schedule for the day, then that may change mealtimes as well, but other than that, breakfast and dinner are both about the same time every day. Lunch is just me and depends on what I'm doing.

I think it's kind of sad how few families seem to sit down to meals together regularly any more--and even when they do, it seems that everyone is glued to their own cellphone and largely ignoring each other.

Breakfast between 8:30 and 9:30. Lunch varies, as I sometimes go for lunch with friends. Evening meal 9:00 p.m. I know, I know, it's late, more like eating in the European style. I just prefer to eat at 9:00. (I go to bed at midnight.)

Meal SuggestionsFeb 03, 2010
My father-in-law is coming over this month with his family, and then next month my mother-in-law is coming over with her family. They don't come over to our house much, and I wanted to cook for them. I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for company dinners that is kid-friendly. I'm not afraid of cooking, I enjoy it, but usually it is only for my husband and daughter and me. I don't cook for large groups very often. There will probably be about 6-10 people each group.  ...

Meal Planners... Websites?Mar 15, 2010
Do any of you lovely fellow MTs of mine happen to use a meal planner online where you can chose recipes for the week and it will allow you to print a shopping list? My SIL gave me the idea of letting everyone choose a meal for each day of the month, and then she said she only shops for those items for that week.  I thought this was a good idea, but my kids are probably not the best to ask.  They just always eat everything that I put in front of them, but I personally am tired of spagh ...

My daughter and I moved in with my mom and step-dad and my mom, who is the world's best cook, doesn't want to cook dinner every night of the week, can you believe that?!?!?    I mean that's one of the reasons I was so quick to accept her invitation to move in!  Seriously, I want to help her out, but I work in the office now and so I need some ideas for quick, yummy dinners like casseroles that can be made up the night before and then just stuck in the oven when I g ...

Banning Happy Meal ToysApr 28, 2010
What do you think of this county's plan? Happy Meal toys and other promotions that come with high-calorie children's meals will soon be banned in parts of Santa Clara County unless the restaurants meet nutritional guidelines approved Tuesday by the county Board of Supervisors. "This ordinance prevents restaurants from preying on children's' love of toys" to sell high-calorie, unhealthful food, said Supervisor Ken Yeager, who sponsored the measure. "This ordinance bre ...

? About Rice, Plus A German Crockpot Meal. SmAug 04, 2013
Hi all!  First,  I have a question about rice. Has anyone ever had lavender rice?  If so could you describe the flavor of it? I'm a big basmati rice fan, but keep eying the lavender rice also, but it only comes in a rather large package and is pricey. If anyone knows what it tastes like, I would love the feedback. Now, the recipe.  It's for a complete german sauerbraten dinner and is cheap, easy to make, and is fantastic if you are a fan of german cuisine.  1 ...

Monthly Meal Planning, Does It Really Save Money?Aug 10, 2010
Because of the crappy economy, I'm trying to budget my money better and I've decided to try to give this a try.  I work second shift and I've gotten into the habit of cooking dinner maybe three times a week and doing take out the rest of the week and I want to get out of that habit.  And I also want to take time to sit down with my kids and eat supper.  Take my dinner break and enjoy it.  But I am the least organized person!  So before I dive into this, I ...

MTs Going Through Hard TimesAug 25, 2010
Sometimes, when I read posts about MTs going through hard times (many of us these days), I think about inviting one of them to stay in my home for perhaps a year in order to get a little ahead.  I live alone in a rural area and have a lovely home.  There's not much to do here, but it's pleasant enough, and the cost of living is reasonable.  I've been through a few rough patches myself, but I'm with a pretty stable company now and am enjoying my work.  I ...
