AHDI RHDS/CHDS ExamsFeb 18, 2014
Has anybody taken either of these exams, and what advice can you offer?  I used to have a  CMT but let it go because it was essnetially worthless and now I want this job that I think the RHDS or CHDS might help me get.  How far in advance did you have to schedule the exam, how long did it actually take you to take the test, how hard was it, any constructive comments would be greatly appreciated.  I haven't even looked at the BOS3 but have a BOS 2 that I actuall ...

Embarassing DentureMar 09, 2012
This is very embarassing and sounds sort of stupid (at least it does to me), but I am having problems with a denture.  In July 2011, I had to have my remaining upper teeth extracted and a full upper denture made.  It was ready just before Thanksgiving.  (I've wondered if I got too "used to" eating with no teeth !) Anyway, the dentist gave me this "New Denture User" orientation kit.  I do fine with cleaning it, brushing with toothpaste/toothbrush, etc.&nb ...

by the Conman in Chief.  But hey! the people who got conned by the Trump "University" overcame their embarassment and sued and got some of their money back.  There's no way you can do that, but you can quietly come to terms with the fact that you've been had by a master, and help us try to figure out what to do about it!  ...

Do You Know Where Your Medical Records Are Going?Aug 17, 2011
My co-worker and I sent an email to Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck with this subject line and gave them a few points of interest.  Not sure if anyone here would be interested in doing the same; however, I think if they get enough e-mails it might stir them into action.  Just a thought.... ...

Medical Question - Does Anyone Know? (sm)Apr 27, 2013
I know you can get muscle and joint aches and pains with statin drugs.  My question is, and I can't find this anywhere, is - I've been taking atorvastatin for about 10 months now, and I've only started having aches and cramps in my legs for about 3 months.  Has anyone heard of it taking that long before the pain starts?  (I stopped taking it for 3 weeks to see if the pain would stop, and it didn't, so I started taking them again).  I'm going to a ...

Medical Bloopers, Very Funny.Nov 17, 2009
These are mistakes and bloopers which were put together from medical charts.  Some of these are very funny. The lab test indicated abnormal lover function. The baby was delivered, the cord clamped and cut, and handed to the pediatrician, who breathed and cried immediately. Exam of genitalia reveals that he is circus sized. She stated that she had been constipated for most of her life until 1989 when she got a divorce. The patient was in his usual state of good health until his ai ...

Should I Mention About A Possible Medical Issue Or NotDec 27, 2009
Some time back I mentioned to my DIL that her father should get his heart checked out. I noticed he had creases in his earlobes. The reason I mentioned is was for the fact I had a cardiologist who says this over and over in dictations, then when studying further found it could mean heart problems. Well, you would have thought I had tried to kill someone, everyone sprang into action stating there was nothing wrong with him at all. Fast forward a few years, DIL's father just recovering from q ...

Medical Transcription And ChemotherapyFeb 02, 2013
I have a question for any MT who is undergone chemotherapy. About a year ago, I was diagnosed with cancer. I underwent extensive abdominal surgery to remove the tumor and had a very difficult and prolonged recovery time. I was unable to begin chemotherapy until a couple of months after my surgery. At the time I had my surgery, with the help of the hospital's social services, I applied for SSI/SSDI. After I had recovered from surgery, my oncologist had recommended that I try to work ...

Spasms In Face, No Help From Medical PersonnelOct 28, 2009
I have these spasms going on. First had botox injections which gave the impression of perhaps having had stroke on one side of my face. Those really lasted about 1 day as far as taking away the spasms, the lack of facial expression went on for about 4 months. Other day went to another neurologist and prescribed benzodiazepines, taken those for 2 days now and see absolutely no improvement. Has anyone else had these and if so, what worked for you? ...

Need To Tell My Grown Children About Medical IssuesOct 29, 2009
I have always considered myself in excellent health especially with all the health issues I type on each and every day with people younger or near my age. Pros And Cons On Medical Marijuana???Jun 08, 2012
Well here in California, we have passed a prop that OK's the sale of marijuana in pot shops, although it restricts exactly what areas they can run these businesses.  Such as they must be at least 1 mile from schools and churches.  Other restrictions too.  But evidently the people of California do not want to make medical marijuana illegal.  So they are still in business.   In my opinion, selling marijuana is beneficial for patients with chronic conditions, such as ...

Medical Insurance Coverage: Will We Receive Any?Nov 15, 2012
Now that the elections are over, it seems Obamacare will be going into effect. What do you think the MTSOs are going to do?  The new law will require all businesses with over 50 employees to offer insurance.     It really would be nice if the large companies did the right thing and offered insurance without having to meet line count guidelines. Insurance being tied to line count always leaves a bad taste in the mouth of employees because when work is low, you ...

Was In A Medical Office Today - Wanted A Job ThereJan 28, 2013
"The lights were low" - no, this is not the beginning of a romance novel, it's how it was when I walked into this doctor's family practice clinic.  I felt really uptight - I don't have insurance, and was expecting the worst, some zinger of a bill at the very end, some fee, something they hadn't told me about. The front office was kind of cramped, I admit, the phone ringing, scheduling...but then this calm relaxed medical assistant led me to the room, took my blood press ...

Copyediting Or Medical Coding As A Career After MTJan 10, 2016
Hello, I do not have the money to keep spending on no where careers.  I am wondering what people think would be the better at home career for someone who is already an MT?  Someone a few years back said she was an MT and got into copyediting after.   For those who don't know, a copyeditor is kind of like a proofreader but they also look at content.  A medical coder codes procedures, etc. for billing purposes.  I have looked into both and cannot make a decision. &n ...

Question About Release Of Medical InformationMar 11, 2017
My brother has been admitted to a rehab facility for treatment of his diabetic leg wound, with apparent debridement down to bone from what he tells me.  The problem is, he has Alzheimer's, is understandably depressed, and sounds pretty sedated when I call him.  His wife is elderly and ill and hospitalized herself and doesn't comprehend much.  I'd like to know more about his condition and what's being done for it and the prognosis for release.   I ...
