AHDI RHDS/CHDS exams

Posted: Feb 18, 2014

Has anybody taken either of these exams, and what advice can you offer?  I used to have a  CMT but let it go because it was essnetially worthless and now I want this job that I think the RHDS or CHDS might help me get.  How far in advance did you have to schedule the exam, how long did it actually take you to take the test, how hard was it, any constructive comments would be greatly appreciated.  I haven't even looked at the BOS3 but have a BOS 2 that I actually use so I'm curious about how much I need to look into it. TIA

I earned my CMT in Feb 2004 and just did the bridging course/exam at the end of 2013 to upgrade to a CHDS. There is a blueprint for the exam on their website. I know they updated the exam to include EHR/VR information, HIPAA stuff, and more in-depth medical knowledge.  I will say that the bridging exam was pretty difficult, and I had studied for it as much as I could.

I'll add a link with the info. :)) Good luck!

Don't drink the Kool-Aid offered by AHDI in any form.

Maybe try to find out if the credential will - truly give you any

advantage over any other candidate for the job. In my experience, obtaining my CMT credential resulted in a one-time bonus of $25. After paying to take the exam and taking unpaid time off from work in order to do so, I ended up with a net loss. Also, I do not believe there are many employers who value these credentials at all.
