She's an expert on Obamacare.

You may want to ask Gail Wilensky about Betsy McCaughey - ----

[ In Reply To ..]
Both women claim to be conservative economists, both former Republicans, but only appears to have a legitimate background in healthcare economics.

Betsy McCaughey has a PhD from Columbia, but it's in history. She has no professional experience in the healthcare industry whatsoever. She was a Republican, until her former running mate, George Pataki, dropped her as his running mate in 1997. She then changed parties to Democrat and ran against him.

Gail Wilensky has a PhD in Economics from the University of Michigan. She has been a lifelong Republican and was the Director of Medicare and Medicaid under George Bush Sr.

Direct quote from Wilensky about McCaughey:

"While not everything she says is off the mark, it's very frustrating to see somebody who makes outrageous statements that bear no relationship to reality receive so much attention."

This quote appeared in an article in 2009 in The New Republic, which was ironically the same publication that published McCaughey's Hillarycare-killing article "No Exit" in 1994. New Republic has since distanced themselves as far as they can from her, after discovering that report contained gross misrepresentations, inaccuracies, and complete fabrications. Note the author uses the same title as McCaughey, "No Exit," flipping back its meaning on her.

http://www.newrepublic.com/article/politics/no-exit?page=0,0

Wilensky again criticized McCaughey when she resurfaces in the Wall Street Journal in 2009, after McCaughey again made serious allegations against Ezekiel Emanuel, Obama's health adviser, and Obamacare itself in 2009.

http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2009/08/27/mccaughey-vs-emanuel-on-health-care-rationing/

At the same time New Republic grew concerned and distanced themselves from her, so did her former running mate, former Governor George Pataki (R). Rumors that she had no true party loyalty and would say anything to get attention and power seemed founded after Governor Pataki dropped her as his running mate and she jumped parties to run against him as a Democrat.

So why is this woman who has no reputation left with Republicans once again resurfacing in conservative media, and why are those same former critics now suddenly quiet about her?

Quite simply, because she's useful. Her particular brand of baseless-rhetoric sells well.

Time will tell. - sm

We'll see if BO continues to get away with his charade. In the meantime, Gruber has proven what a lot of us have already known. Thanks for your input.
thanks, but not sure my point was clear - ---

That point is "The enemy of my enemy is not always my friend."

Whenever someone is called an "expert," regardless of their party affiliation, the first thing I do is check their education and career credentials which is how I found this information.

Supposed "experts" need to be researched, now more than ever, not just taken at face value because these issues are too important not to do our homework. Just because they say they are in the same party. Even if they truly are, that doesn't mean they think "just like us" and just because they're in the opposing party doesn't mean they aren't like us. Is that necessarily a bad thing that someone isn't "just like us" anyway? .

IMO, Ms. Welinsky is the sort of reputable Republican that existed after McCarthy and before Bush Jr., that has almost gone the way of the dinosaur. Like the Doles, who sort of began to drop off the radar when the current "in-house" people started doing very strange things in the 2000s, most likely because they didn't want to be caught dead standing next to them when they did them. I would've thought John McCain would've had the courage to do the same but was gravely disappointed.

Not all, but many pre-Bush Jr. Republicans such as Welinsky still actually were concerned with social welfare, just from a private charity perspective or a running a tighter spending ship governmentally. I didn't always agree with them, but at least they didn't assume I'm a gullible idiot who doesn't think through the issues and research, and they tried to logically explain their economic goals and plan and either you bought their theory and agreed or you didn't. There was no dramatic "scare-the-pants off you/McCarthy" tactics to manipulate you to vote their way or calling you a Commie or worse if you didn't.

Speaking of which, I'm glad you mentioned Jonathan Gruber, case in point. As has been mentioned several times below but has been ignored, Jonathan Gruber designed both Romneycare and Obamacare.

So I'm at a loss to explain why Obamacare is a good thing or not based on which party you subscribe to, and since some are so party-brainwashed, why you'd listen to a word he has to say not knowing that information.

Here's what I think from a nonpartisan perspective.

I think Jonathan Gruber designed and sold to both Romney and Obama what he knew was a faulty product of his own design, one which non-economists wouldn't readily understand right away. Whether Romney and Obama knew it was a faulty product or not, Gruber knew it was.

So no Mr. Gruber, you are not excused and you do not get to project your guilt off onto Obama or Romney, and especially not on to the American people because they should've known better/been smarter than a Harvard economist than to buy your lemon, sold to both Romney and Obama.

You sold what you knew was a lemon and therefore carry the brunt of the responsibility.

last month the state insurance commissioner, Julie Mix McPeak, approved premium increases of up to 62% in a bid to save the exchange set up under the Affordable Care Act. “I would characterize the exchange market in Tennessee as very near collapse,” she said. Obamacare Is Failing From Behind... His Goals For ObamacareJul 20, 2016
1) Have it collapse so that single payer can be implemented amidst the ensuing chaos. 2) Have that happen on somebody else’s watch. Obamacare was designed to fail so the Democrats could “reform” it with complete government provided socialized medicine. That is the entire purpose for it. Obamacare is designed to collapse so they can backfill the vacuum with government run socialized medicine. Eventually, everyone will be on some form of Medicare. I believe that was one of Bernie’ ...

I can't figure out why she would invite such a controversial person.
