Where's the GOP outrage?

Posted: Jun 5, 2014

Prior to Inauguration Day 2009, the Bush administration released 532 Gitmo detainees. One was implicated in the Benghazi attack. Where's the GOP outrage? ;

My opinion - sm

It is still being strategized by the Republican Talking Points Committee. They have not yet figured out how they can blame this on Hillary Clinton.

There are a lot of people of all parties who were very disillusioned with GWB. I was not on this board then, but if I were, you would have heard about my displeasure and disappointment with him. At this time, however, I don't see the point of bringing it up. He's not the president anymore.

His legacy continues to affect us today - sm

As the rules state, I just do not participate in topics if I do not feel they are pertinent. I think you should feel free to comment on the impact of Bush's actions.

That is your opinion. - NPC

I am not going to tell you or anyone else what "I think" they "should" do.
My use of the word "you" - was collective, not personal. nm

You kind of just did - though

And I quote:

"At this time, however, I don't see the point of bringing it up. He's not the president anymore."

To quote again: "That is your opinion."

Other posters do see the point of bringing it up because, as per usual, the same standards are not being applied to President Obama as President Bush and most especially because the history of the Bush wars and the effect on the troops certainly DOES have an influence in this situation and many others.

Frankly, I find this constant nitpicking about not bringing former President Bush into the conversation rather annoying, since he was Commander in Chief when these two wars began.

We are now as a country trying to bring them to a close and all the ugly stuff coming up such as this POW thing AND the veterans cannot be fully considered without looking at his influence.
I don't see how MY opinion is going to change anything. - NPC

I was just about to close down this site because I need to get to work. I said what I feel. I was disillusioned and disappointed with GWB. I don't know what he was thinking half the time. However, my opinion doesn't change anything from the past, present or future. Yes, there were and are a lot of people who disagreed with GWB. What more can I or anyone say? There's nothing we can do about it.

This is the Politics board, not the Obama - board. FYI.

We're free to discuss whichever president we'd like here.

Then do it... - ...by all means.

She didn't say you couldn't she only gave her - opinion - which is 100% right on

[ In Reply To ..]
Yeah, this is a politics board, we are free to give our opinion. That was her opinion and many others.

The OP's post was simply not accurate. There is plenty of outrage. Like someone said, they just don't want to see its there.

It's there. You just refuse to see it - sm

Regardless, Bush is no longer president. There is enough criminal activities being committed by this group that it is not necessary to bring up past presidents. Otherwise, we can include Billy, and all the ones before him.

Sorry, we need to keep focused on what is happening now. How this latest stunt is going to affect us, which it does.

GOP's outrage is there. You just refuse to see it.

Where did you find this information? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm searching every word I can think of to find the information you posted. Where did you find this? The most I found was a news reporter saying nobody knows how many.

I'm also finding that one is "suspected" (not implicated) in Benghazi.

I'm also finding that Bush went through the appropriate channels and received the appropriate authorization to release the ones he did.

Obama did this after hours, behind closed doors and did not have permission. This is an impeachable offense. Obama needs to learn he is not a dictator. There are laws. This country is not ruled by dictatorship.

It is updated on a regular basis and made available to the public and has been for years. Any news reporter that is saying "nobody knows how many" is either knowingly trying to mislead or is stunningly uninformed.

The only problems with your "after hours" and "impeachable offense" arguments are that Congress had been notified about this issue since 2011 and courts have ruled for decades that a POTUS has broad powers. As Bergdahl was a prisoner of war, CIC Obama had the constitutional authority to obtain his release.

Bush had good intentions. - sm

Obama wants to "fundamentally transform America."

This is the OP. You are off topic and deflecting. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Sound familiar? Well, I'm not serious actually, just trying to make a point. IMO, refusing to discuss certain issues usually means you'd prefer not to face facts and would like to shut down the discussion because you have no good argument.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, even when I disagree with it, and I don't try to play board police because I don't roll that way.

Most of those released by Bush were not high ranking senior Taliban commanders, who were labeled the most dangerous terrorists in the world. In fact, two of them were wanted by the U.N. for WAR CRIMES. They should have been turned over to them, not sent to a country where they can do as they please.

About 614 detainees held at the detention center since it opened in 2002 have been sent home or resettled in third countries by the George W. Bush and Obama administrations and of those, 104 — about 16.9 percent — are confirmed to have returned to terrorist activity of some kind, the report says. An additional 74 former detainees — 12.1 percent — are suspected of engaging in terrorist activities after their release.

A number of past detainees who were released from Guantanamo Bay and started careers as diplomats, businessmen and in other civilian jobs.

You know who else is wanted for war crimes? - Bush and Cheney.

True Fact, and the Obama Administration Defends Them - Seriously

[ In Reply To ..]
In war crimes litigation, the Obama administration through the Department of Justice requests that George W. Bush, Richard Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and Paul Wolfowitz be granted procedural immunity in cases alleging that they planned and waged the Iraq War in violation of international law. See example in link.

"The DOJ claims that in planning and waging the Iraq War, ex-President Bush and key members of his Administration were acting within the legitimate scope of their employment and are thus immune from suit.â

The CIC and the administration have broad powers during times of war, including, of course, Obama.
