15 MILLION PEOPLE STILL UNEMPLOYED !!!

$800 BILLION "STIMULUS" FUNNELED BY A CORRUPT PRESIDENT TO UNION GOVERNEMNT EMPLOYEES RATHER THAN JOB CREATION.

UNION GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES PROTESTING THE TAXPAYERS WHO FUND THEIR PAYCHECKS SO THEY CAN STILL RETIRE AT AGE 55 WHILE WE HAVE TO WORK NOW UNTIL AGE 70!!

BILLION DOLLAR NFL OWNERS AND MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR NFL PLAYERS FIGHTING OVER BILLIONS OF DOLLARS!!!

HOW TOTALLY SCREWED UP IS THIS COUNTRY RIGHT NOW????
;

I thouhght the official right-wing Repub position was only lazy people are still unemployed. - Nm

Typical comment from the left-wing - ridiculous.

[ In Reply To ..]
A serious comment was made and all you can do is make a snide comment about republicans...wow. BTW..I'm NOT a republican. I put my faith in neither party. Perhaps you ought to try that yourself. You'd be surprised how things look when you take your blinders off.

The country is messed up alright, but I don't agree with your assessment - but do agree with your right to it

[ In Reply To ..]
"The people" have been losing their rights for years now, through administrations of both parties. Politicians for the most part look out for their own interests only. We have lost the battle. I don't know if it can be repaired or not.

Perhaps the best way to go is to shrink - government

[ In Reply To ..]
I know those on the left generally want bigger government but since government seems to be the problem....perhaps politicians on both sides should lose the power they have over us. Just a thought. I put no faith in either party. I see corruption on both sides.

I agree with you absolutely except for maybe where to start - and that would not be taking food from babies

[ In Reply To ..]
I would start making government smaller by getting rid of subsidies and tax breaks. In fact, I would have the flat tax and then make sure that there is no way that people can hire someone to find loopholes in it. I'm afraid they would anyway, but that would be my dream.

I would still provide food and shelter for the truly helpless. I would not allow babies and children to starve.

I can envision tiny little concrete hut-like places for the homeless, where they could sleep safely at night. They would wake up to a meal that would be served to them free of charge, which would be nutritious, but not something anyone would enjoy so much that they would eat it if they didn't have to.

Then I would have safe places where children could be taken care of while their parents do work. You don't work, you don't eat. The children eat regardless.

how about - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
opening "Food Stamp" stores? It would be the only place to redeem food stamps. It would offer fresh fruit and vegetables, along with other nutritious food and, of course, baby food. No T-bone steaks but offer quality meat and poultry.
I like that idea very much. One more problem - see inside
[ In Reply To ..]
We also need to make it so the scummy drug addict people can't sell their food stamps for drugs. How can we do that?
food stamps - IceT
[ In Reply To ..]
How about random drug testing in order to receive food stamps? Set it up by a certain amount of money received or set it up by a certain number of days in the program. You fail the test? Kids go to a responsible family member or foster care and you go into mandatory drug rehab. If the drug addict is not able to be rehabilitated, at least we have a chance to save the babies. Just a thought.

Definitely! - shrinking all the time

[ In Reply To ..]
That's it - shrink the government! Somalia has had NO government in years, so no government interference on any level and look what a great country that is!! Whereas the countries that lean toward socialism and really care for the poor, the young, the old and the at-risk -- well they have the best standard of living in the world, the best health care and among the happiest. Golly, must be horrible to have that big government.

I am hoping that with less government I can start dumping all my used motor oil in the trout stream nearby, maybe it will catch fire like that river in the 1970s. We can trust our neighbors to do the right thing, right? All 11 million of them? We can trash this planet and our children will suffer, but heck who cares as long as we have the very rich to look out for us!!!
You're right. Saudia Arabia has no government either. - I had forgotten about that
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Oh yes....socialism is so great - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
because there is no middle class at all. You are either poor and totally dependent on the government or you are rich. Oh boy...where do I sign up because I know my middle class butt wouldn't end up in the rich section and I so want to be dependent on government to keep me comfortable and how to control my life because that sounds so gosh darn wonderful.

If ya'll want socialism...move to a socialist country and leave the good 'ole USA alone.
AN EVEN BETTER IDEA!! OH YEAH!!!! - Definitely!
[ In Reply To ..]
Socialism is defnitely not without many faults. My point was that sometimes what you fear most is not that bad, and what you yearn for may be your worst nightmare. Worldwide, the US already has one of the most limited governments.

Anyway, check out Somalia. I think all the tea party folks would love it!!
1. Is a theocracy practically. Even though it's not Christian, they believe in one God, esteem Jesus as a great prophet and do not believe in separation of church and state apparently.

2. Adulterers and gays can be stoned to death. (oh dear, there goes half the republican party) Never mind on that one.

3. Public education is a low priority one would think given the abysmal literacy rate. (Palin would certainly applaud this. Those college-educated folks are uppity).

4. Plenty of individuals running around with sub-machine guns, no permits or background checks necessary. (THIS IS BEAUTIFUL!!!! Now you guys can take your guns EVERYWHERE!!!!

5. Doubtful that they have universal health care over there. OH YES!!!! Let the kids of the poor jobless suckers suffer, it's their fault for having lazy parents!!!

6. Government is practically non existent. (Heck, we got the somali pirates and the rich to take care of us!!!!)

7. The theocrats would never permit abortion. (We don't like abortion but once the brats get born we don't want to offer assistance of any kind!!!)

8. As a Muslim theocracy (or close to one), they probably don't have a good opinion of Jews and Israel. (oh-oh, gotta change this one.)

My guess is Republicans believe those babies that were not aborted wlll probably vote Democrat - when they grow up
[ In Reply To ..]
so they don't want to grant them any help like food or shelter. They are the enemy. That WIC program is aiding and abetting the enemy, those awful second-class citizens that will be Democrats if they survive.
You all do realize... - that conservatives donate a LOT more
[ In Reply To ..]
to charity than liberals do, don't you? Just because someone does not want the government to subsidize everything does not mean that they do not care to help people out. Most liberals feel that they have already done their part by supporting government programs, while even after paying taxes, many conservatives still donate.
The discussion is interesting but the sarcasm spoils it, no matter if you agree or disagree - Loving the discussion
[ In Reply To ..]
Let\'s keep the discussion going as it was before the sarcasm entered into it. Nobody is convinced of anything when they are slapped with sarcasm. It just brings the discussion to a stop.
You are probably right - Definitely!
[ In Reply To ..]
It was supposed to be facts intermingled with humor that was based on reality. I and others have tried a factual discussion and it just didn't work out.
My serious non-sarcastic comment is about social security - which I paid for and want
[ In Reply To ..]
I will not be happy if they start cutting social security. Politicians from both sides in several administrations have BORROWED MONEY from social security and then they say, "too bad, there isn't enough money left in there for you."

Well, the truth is, we all put money in there. MANY people don't live to use theirs, so all of that funny math going on by all the experts doesn't add up.

1) STOP borrowing from my social security money. Leave it alone. That's mine.

2) I may or may not live to use some of mine. I almost undoubtedly will not live to use all of what I've put in and certainly not after interest over all the years has been added in. What I leave will continue to collect interest and I am happy to leave it toward the next generation.

3) I want my social security.

4) Don't mess with the Medicare either.

5) Don't mess with funds for the helpless babies and those in mental institutions who will otherwise be roaming the streets, sleeping in boxes, and/or hurting themselves or others.

6) Make everyone pay their fair share of taxes, and no more than their fair share. Most of us pay too much, but some pay none or very little, when they have more than the rest of us do.

7) Let's work on the infrastructure. Bridges and roads are crumbling in my state. We don't have enough jobs for people. We could put some of them to work rebuilding those roads and bridges and this would also make money for the big companies who make the equipment and materials necessary to do that rebuilding. That's a Win/Win situation for everyone, rich and poor alike.
not sarcastic comment about taxes - a1typist
[ In Reply To ..]
Do you realize that 47% of the people in the US pay NO taxes? Seems rather lopsided to me, but the more people dependent on the government, the closer we get to the socialist state mentioned above...just a thought!
I worked and paid into Social Security for 41 years and - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
then became disabled and couldn't work. I don't know how I would survive if it wasn't for my SSDI benefits. Funny, but I don't see it as "socialist" at all. I see it as a life saver.
I agree with you. I think social security is a blessing - nm

Could you give more information on that please? Where did you get that info? - Thanks
[ In Reply To ..]
I would like to know more about where you got that information and what it's based on. Thanks!

I am independent - but formerly leaned

[ In Reply To ..]
left however was a gun-carrying, not for big-govt lefty. Problemm with stereotypes like right and left, lib and cons is that they're a fantasy of the media. Not only that, the labeling just divides people.

I'm on Facebook and get the USDA newsfeeds. If the USDA was supporting real farmers and not getting involved in healthcare, energy subsidies for factory farms, and other costly programs, I would say keep the USDA. The current budget cut proposals retain the USDA's marriage to Monsanto, Cargill, DuPont, ADM, and is a total ripoff in taxpayer money with agribiz farm subsidies. And these projects overlap. Gut it, but gut it so that citizens can grow food in their own locales.

The unions are being used as a red herring - to divert

[ In Reply To ..]
attention away from the real problem which was the immense securities fraud, tax fraud, and illegal foreclosures committed by the ratings agencies and banks respectively. Likewise, Bernie Madoff is the sacrificial lamb, when in fact there are many more out there, still holding jobs and still getting away with fraud. Things are going to get much worse before they get better. The jobs numbers are bogus and any talk of recovery on stations like CNBC is nonsense as well.

I agree with you, with a couple of differences - about the unions

[ In Reply To ..]
I come from a family where my dad belonged to a union. It was a very HONORABLE, responsible union run by truly excellent leaders. They never got greedy. They made sure that the union members weren't abused and got reasonable pay and acceptable working conditions. They never abused any situation.

Because of that union and their work to defend and protect workers, I got to eat, had shelter, and clothes, etc.

Some of the unions have abused their power. That has made it bad for all those who haven't. I'm really sorry about that.

What's the answer? It certainly isn't to throw out all unions, because if we do, it's going to be very much like we as MTs describe our situation. The BIG GUYS or "Suits" have all the power, and they aren't sharing the fruits of our labor. In this case they are used as a scape goat. Some unions deserve it and many don't.
I think this is one reason for the big difference in opinon about unions - Our Personal Backgrounds
[ In Reply To ..]
I think that a person who had never had a positive union relationship, and I've never belonged to one, only has the media for an idea of what unions are all about. We do forget that they have saved the working people and kept them from poverty for years. Yeah, they've made some messes, but if you look at our Presidents and Congress, they have lots of company.
Public or private unions? - That is also a big
[ In Reply To ..]
difference - one funded by taxpayers, the other by dues.
I see your point and don't disagree with you---mainly because I don't know that much about - but here is my concern
[ In Reply To ..]
If I knew that those busting unions were only busting public unions and not just going after unions in general, I might not feel so threatened. I'm not personally threatened of course because I'm not and never have been in a union. My concern is that this is just a symptom of taking the power away from the little people.

How do we fix what's wrong with unions without giving away the very tiny little bit of control (not power) that the people have because of having had unions. Does that make sense?
That's the dilemma. With - the public sector
[ In Reply To ..]
unions, these unions are paid by tax-payers and there is no profit. Promises were made by elected officials based on funny feasibility studies. MANY if not most public sector union employees are not making anywhere near the fabulous salaries with outrageous benefits that are often reported in the news. Like anyone else, they are fighting for what they were promised. Problem is, states and local govts are bankrupt or going bankrupt. Muni bonds are not selling (state equivalent of printing money). Tax revenue is decreased as people lose homes and jobs. Wisconsin is just the beginning.
The country is desperately broke.

In the private sector side, the unions in profit-seeking companies are no longer advocating for their workers. Salaries and benefits are reduced, pensions cut. A relative who works for in a union job driving a dumpster roller now has a monitoring device in his truck that cost his company $500k. His benefits now cost him so much he can't afford them. His union rep can't be found. This is plain greed on the part of the union and the company and is despicable.
