Big banks aim fees at those who avoid debt, pay bills on time

Posted: Oct 27, 2009

Update (at bottom): Senator Dodd calls for credit card rate freeze until new rules take effect

Did you pay your bills on time this month? Avoided taking on unnecessary debt? Well, there's a fee for that.

Anticipating the implementation of the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act in February of next year, big banks are stepping up their aggressive treatment of those who hold cards that may be deemed too generous, or those who are studious in making payments.

This is so unconstitutional. Okay, truth be I don't know if it's really unconstitutional but it seems to be.

They are using every excuse to get more money from citizens. Every month I pay my balance off if I use my credit card. If they start charging me a fee I will opt not to use their credit.

I for one hopes BofA goes out of business and any other bank that tries this. If its my bank I sure will close out my account and take my business elsewhere.

What's next - we're going to be taxed every time we step outside our house/apartment because we're breathing fresh air. I'm waiting to hear of the "Free Air Tax". After all, every breath we take I'm sure Algore will tell us we're polluting the planet so we need to pay a tax for breathing.

Just another benefit of an Obama bill. Guess if we pay our bills - on time, we should "spread our wealth"..sad.nm

Has Anyone Ever Fought Debt Fees In Small Claims?Jul 14, 2010
Around 3 years ago I had a credit card that I put a pair of tires put on (about $180).  I then promptly essentially lost my job and had a series of job hopping over the next year, going through about five jobs, none of them living up to their lofty promise of easy platform and lots of work.  In keeping the soap opera-esque quality, I was also dating an alcoholic at that time, and after I lost my job I moved in with him so I could save on electricity, internet, cable, telephone, etc.&nb ...

Why Banks Are May 18, 2017
When people talk about how tax cuts for the businesses will help everybody because they will create jobs, think about this.  One of the big reasons stocks took a downturn was because without the republican agenda and Trump's promised tax cuts they will not profit more like they thought they would. I haven't seen any of these corporations say "darn, we can't hire more people and create jobs."  ...

Big Banks Profits/bonuses DownJan 18, 2012
As you know, there has been a "move your money" movement and the OWS occupation of Wall Street.  Big banks, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan have recently reported a big drop in profits.  The smaller regional banks are doing okay.  (Yes, there are some like Citibank where things are getting better, but they really had no other direction to go as they had already bottomed out).  I just want to congratulate the 99% for making a difference on Wall Street and in Wisconsin.& ...

"In this case, they're trying to get in just one more abuse." ...

Avoid The Restrooms At Target. Better StillApr 21, 2016
It doesn't matter what position you take about transgender issues - it is NOT a good idea to allow people to choose whatever restroom they happen to prefer.  Target has NO way of knowing that the man who chooses the women's restroom is truly transgender, rather than being a predator with an entirely different purpose in mind. This is an unsafe world.  You NEED, and HAVE A RIGHT to know who is in the next stall. For this incredibly naive move, I've sent Target a message ...

Compensation For The Boards Of Directors Of The Nation’s Biggest Banks Continues To RiseApr 01, 2013
Excerpt from the NY Times: "Some Wall Street insiders also question the need to pay bank directors more than their counterparts at other big corporations, arguing that the increased regulation has actually limited bank boards’ ability to perform important tasks, like raising capital and issuing dividends. Even when it comes to paying senior executives, boards have less leeway because regulators have pressured boards to bring down executive pay. “About the only thing bank directors h ...

Others indicated using “corrupt cops” who seize guns then “put them back on the street.” The inmates made clear they do not walk into gun stores to buy guns. Which proves a point Breitbart News, Gun Owners of America, and other gun rights groups have made for years; namely, that backgro ...

Food for thought: “I maintain that every civil rights bill in this country was passed for white people, not for black people. For example, I am black. I know that. Every time I tried to go into a public place they stopped me. So some boys had to write a bill to tell that white man, “He’s a human being; don’t stop him." That bill was for the whit ...

Senate Fails To Pass Modest Gun Control Bills. NmJun 21, 2016
WASHINGTON -- Just over a week after the worst mass shooting in American history, the Senate failed Monday to advance a pair of modest and popular gun violence reform measures. One would have barred gun sales to anyone who has been on a terrorist watch list in the previous five years or who is "reasonably" suspected of posing a terrorist threat. Another would have tightened the background check system to cover the so-called gun show loophole and all internet gun sales. About 90 ...
