Trump hurting businesses in Florida

Posted: Feb 19, 2017

Farther down the board someone said that Trump's weekly visits to Mar-A-Lago are not hurting local businesses.  I think I posted this link before but here it is again.  Of course that person may not read it because it comes from NPR.  Nevertheless, a number of businesses are suffering and if he keeps doing this every weekend, they will go out of business.

;

LOL Untrue. This is just fake news. - Businesses actually benefit.

How can it be that your brain doesn't warn you to be - skeptical of such biased reports?

[ In Reply To ..]
I know why...people see a story that fits their narrative and their logical mind gets short-circuited. It never even wakes up.

So I'll think for you: How likely do you think it is that any Presidential visit to an area wouldn't stimulate a lot of business? Consider the number of people who poured in to his rally. They didn't buy food? They didn't buy gasoline? Some of them didn't take motel or hotel rooms?

I don't listen to NPR for a very good reason, which is constantly having to filter the biased garbage that they broadcast. There isn't one story on NPR that any thinking person doesn't have to question and back-check. When you do, you can see very clearly what they're doing.

National Progressive Rubbish is a disgrace to journalism...and that takes a lot of doing these days.

NPR: Throw swill in the trough, yell SOOOIE and - the pigs come running.

Sad, how unable to we've become to guard against misinformation, disinformation, biased reporting, and of course outright falsehoods from our news media.

I don't blame the media, either. They couldn't get away with their disgusting behavior if we didn't let them.

Florida - anon

I've read it hurts some businesses and helps others. So everything you don't agree with now just becomes "fake news?"
Just about any event that has economic aspects will - hurt some, help others.
[ In Reply To ..]
I was speaking about biased reporting, which is more insidious in many ways than an outrageous lie that everyone can spot a mile away - and in that sense is not just fake news, it is dangerous fake news like a sweet-tasting poison slipped into your drink.
True. Biased reporting is the date-rape drug that the - media use on the masses.
[ In Reply To ..]
And they're very clever about it. Omit facts that contradict your slant. Select others that fit your narrative. Use language chosen to imply something you don't dare come out and say, or that invites the audience to draw inferences that aren't justified. Twist numbers and statistics. Take quotes out of context.

It takes effort and vigilance both to recognize yellow journalism and to reject it, especially when we approve of the tempting message.

We're being date-raped by the news media every single day. But then, that's our own fault, isn't it?
Unless you can remove - Hail Caesar

all of life's influences, everything we do is biased to some degree. However, there are well-established, well-respected institutions with research staffs that do their jobs. And then there are bloggers.
I'm referring to deliberate bias. You really don't - want to go down this road.

That is what Trump tells his followers - Resist Trump
[ In Reply To ..]
and they believe him. Anything he doesn't like is fake news. He is going to use that excuse for as long as he is in office and his core crowd will still be cheering him. Yes, NPR is liberal but they also cover conservative views and have some of the best researched articles around. When a president travels roads and airports are closed and many businesses are hurt. They can handle it once in a while but not every weekend.

Any time you disagree with the Trump followers they question your intelligence.
No, jut the news that is Fake News is the news I disagree with. ;) - Got it

I think you are judging it to be fake news - Resist

because you disagree with it. Chicken-egg anyone?

Why do you have to resort - Hail Caesar

to calling those who don't agree with you pigs? I realize that name-calling is the Trump mentality but we are not supposed to do that on this board.

Years of garbage education has taught against critical thinking - anon

Especially in what passes for our colleges and universities. No wonder most, especially liberals, are incapable of thinking for themselves. They've developed a little synapse that waits for CNN or NPR to fill it up with the spin of the day.

If you look at history - Resist Trump

[ In Reply To ..]
it is the right-wingers, not the liberals, who have followed and supported dictators. You think your way and I'll think mine!
You have a very strange history book indeed. - Socialists are right-wingers?
[ In Reply To ..]
Communists are right-wingers?

No one can possibly be this ignorant about history...and we can even take a look at some very recent history if you like.
So simplistic. - sm

Caught in the black/white history analyses....round back to lack of critical thinking skills above.
Now you're just babbling nonsense. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
1. Socialists are left-wing. No one in the world would dispute that if they're sentient.
2. Communists are left-wing. Ditto.
3. Now Google "socialist dictators" and "communist dictators" and see if there aren't a bunch of names you recognize, and probably many that you don't.

Now you've learned something and you'll never again post that it's the right wing who support dictators. Right?

Naw - you'll be posting it again tomorrow.
I would compare Trump - Resist Trump
[ In Reply To ..]
most closely to the fascist dictators of the 20th century in that Trump's rhetoric and the crowds that support him are very similar. I would need to know which communist dictators you are referring to because the dynamics that got them into power are totally different.
depends on how you define right winger - Right Winger
[ In Reply To ..]
In the USA, the right wingers, or conservatives, are those who are in fact classic liberals. Classic liberalism believes in natural law from which we derive such ideas as right to life, personal liberty, limited govt, property rights, etc. In the USA, the right wing or conservative of today wishes to conserve or protect these individual rights as defined in our constitution, written by the some of the greatest liberal minds of all time, who incidentally would embrace none of the tenants of today's "liberals." The left wing, the statists, the socialists, the feudalists have has co-opted the word "liberal" and twisted it into meaning something that it does not.

On the other hand, right wing, or conservatives in states such as Russia or Germany are those who wish to return to the old order, communism or nazism, and all of their accompanying evils such as huge enslaving govt, overbearing taxation and regulation, loss of personal freedom, euthanesia and abortion.

Agreed! Colleges are churning our a nation of followers. - yyyx

Florida ColdFeb 19, 2015
At the risk of getting tomatoes thrown at me for those people in the north, here in SW Florida, we're not used to cold weather. It's 56 today, and going into the 30s tonight. I can't stop shivering. The heat in many of the homes is not efficient at all (it shouldn't have to be!), and our windows and doors aren't insulated. We have an open floor plan and high, vaulted ceilings, so heating it is almost impossible. And it's windy out so all the cold here is coming in t ...

A Bill To Provide An Incentive For Businesses ToJul 31, 2014
