Poor MTs ice cream cones: I got sugar cones at the

a big jar of unsweetened applesauce, brown sugar, and some canned whipped cream left over.

I figured, why not? Layered some applesauce, little sugar, some cream, another layer of each, and cream on the top.

Not too bad at all, but not advisable to eat while you're trying to transcribe.

The OP was just putting a positive spin on an otherwise not so positive experience, i.e. going to a food bank cause we make slave wages and can't afford to live. But YOU have to be a patronizing ass. What is wrong with you?!?!

That way maybe some of us can stay out of the food pantries and have that money to go to the store for ice cream.

If this job is making you so destitute that you need to visit a food pantry, I think it's time you reassess your job situation and find a different source of income. Honestly, even being a hostess at a restaurant, working at a department store for the holidays...anything really would be so less stressful than having to eat an ice cream cone made out of applesauce.

Those packages of Jell-O instant pudding don't cost very much and if you have milk you could make pudding and use that in your cones. Pour juice if you have it, in ice cube trays, insert popsicle sticks or handles (Dollar Store?) and make popsicles. You could do that with left over coffee as well if you enjoy the flavor of coffee. I like your creation but don't know if I would have taken the time to be so creative with the layering! This is making me hungry, I may need to go get some supplies today :-)

The magic ingredient that thickens them up with just cold water is simply cornstarch made from waxy corn. It's sold as Instant Clear Jel and as Cornaby's Ultra Gel. I like the Cornaby's because it doesn't lump if not premixed with other dry ingredients, so you can just stir in a little more if you don't get the pudding thick enough to suit you to start with.

It takes 6 T of Cornaby's to thicken a pudding made with 2 cups of milk, and you can buy it for $7 a pound, enough thickener to make the equivalent of 19 boxes of Instant Pudding. Add your own sugar and natural flavorings--vanilla, cocoa, brown sugar for butterscotch, lemon juice for lemon, etc. You can usually make 4 servings of instant pudding for something around 50 cents, and it won't be just sugar with artificial flavor and FD&C colors. If you're a big fan of instant pudding, you can buy 5 pounds of Ultra-Gel for $30, enough for 95 boxes worth of your own instant puddings.

I use Cornaby's, the granular sugar of my choice, powdered milk, and vanilla sugar plus OvaEasy egg crystals for custard puddings and make up batches of instant puddings of various flavors in small glass jars for my pantry. I powder freeze-dried real fruits for fruit-flavored puddings (strawberry, peach, raspberry, banana, etc.) or just use the bit of powder left at the bottom of my #10 cans for food storage. That way my fruit-flavored puddings actually contain a serving of fruit.

I seem to have a recurring problem with my bags of sugar. It is the plain white granulated kind. I usually buy only one bag at a time and usually pour the sugar into a canister on my countertop. I just made the most scrumptious blueberry sour cream coffee cake. It was so moist and sweet, but not too sweet. DH told me it tasted like something we used to get in Germany.
