Independent contractor/health issues

Posted: May 1, 2016

I've been an IC for a few years for one company.  I have several health issues, which they were aware of when they took me on.  It seems like the last 6 months or so, I'm getting threatened with termination.  Due to health conditions, I am UNABLE to make production requirements.  I am also UNABLE to work 40 hours a week.

I'm not sure what to do.  My doctor only lists me as PARTIALLY disabled.

Really stuck between a rock and a hard place here.  Any advice would help.

Fyi, I've explained my health situation over and over with my employer, even offered to send doctor documentation.

I think companies have a right to have a production requirement without special treatment for anyone.

If I'm not being too nosy, I'd like to ask what the disability is. Many people cannot sit for long periods because of bad backs or fibromyalgia, but there may be some options for you, such as a different work station (like a stand-up station) or some such thing.

Maybe we can help you troubleshoot for you---if we know your condition.

Since you are an IC, they are illegally requiring production requirements - and 40 hours

Those are employee requirements, not independent contractors. I would contact the Department of Labor and get some advice. They can be fined and you can get back money owed to you.

For Those Of You With Various Health Issues, Including Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, EtcNov 01, 2013
As an older MT, I started suffering from "aches and pains" as well as some other health issues.  I had been taking 8-12 Tylenol a day and didn't like that idea, because of potential liver damage.  My doctor subsequently put me on tramadol because of the pain issues and I had been taking 1-2 of those a day. I had been talking to a couple of friends of mine who knew of my health issues and they suggested that I try a relatively new nutritional supplement.  I decided to give it ...

The Crux Of The Issue -- Mental Health IssuesOct 02, 2015
The gunman who carried out the deadly attack on Umpqua Community College was described Friday as a “hate-filled” individual, with anti-religion and white supremacist leanings who has long struggled with mental health issues, law enforcement sources said. Officials said Friday they had recovered 13 weapons tied to the shooter, Chris Harper Mercer, 26. Six were found at the college, seven were found during a search of his apartment -- and all were legally purchased, officials said. ...

Obama For Women's Rights! See Differences In Health Issues... (sm)Nov 01, 2012
OBAMA signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to help women fight back against pay discrimination. He understands that when women are paid less than men for the same work, it hurts the entire family. ROMNEY refused to say whether or not he would have signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law, and Paul RYAN voted against it. OBAMA believes a woman’s health care choices are personal decisions, best made with her doctor—without interference from politicians. ROMNEY believ ...

NSA Contractor ArrestedOct 05, 2016

Among the classified documents found with Martin, the government says, were six that contain sensitive intelligence — meaning they were produced ...

RNC-fired Voter Registration Contractor Was The Only One For 5 SWINGOct 02, 2012
Strategic Allied Consulting is the new name adopted by a conservative voter registration company with a shady reputation at the request of the RNC when they were awarded $3 million contract to preregister voters in 5 swing states, Florida, Colorado, Nevada, Virginia, and North Carolina. SAC was sacked by the RNC a few days ago after being found up to its old tricks in Florida. Googling will turn up a bunch, with a lot more to come, no doubt. The problem in Florida is apparently systematic submi ...

Health Insurance Is A Poor Measure Of Health Care.Sep 14, 2011
On Tuesday, the Census Bureau released its annual report on health insurance coverage in the United States. News media widely misconstrued the data and presented the problems facing the nation's health care system through a distorted lens. Many major news outlets made a basic error when reporting on the Census Bureau study. The Los Angeles Times wrote that "the number of Americans with no health insurance rose in 2010 to 49.9 million from 49 million the year before." But the figure c ...

Health Care Reform-Question About Canadian Health CareDec 03, 2009
So....a friend is for our US health care reform (already retired and on Medicare) because he had no trouble going to Canada to get laser surgery on his eyes so he wouldn't have to wear glasses and states there is nothing wrong with the Canadian system....but, and I'm asking a serious question here, how long do people really wait for emergent surgery if they belong to the Canadian system versus the American system as we have it now? How did Canada get their health care system up and ru ...

This Independent And Her Entire Family Are VotingAug 19, 2016
There is one overriding consideration in our family, and that is the urgent need to break the strangle-hold that the "elite", the "insiders", the "establishment" have had on government for too long. In other words: The "old-boy" (or "old-girl") network. Money, and its illicit influence. Back-room deals and corrupt arrangements. Had Sanders not sold out and broken off an independent candidacy, our family frankly would have been split, but unfortunately Sanders proved to be just another P ...

Independent: Why Romney Closed The Deal With MeOct 23, 2012
1.  There was only one "presidential" personality on the stage last night. 2.  I became convinced that Romney is the one who can work across the aisle and get things done. 3.  Obama continued to refuse to own up to any of his obvious economic and foreign policy blunders.  Instead he was arrogant and snarky. 4.  The keys to an effective foreign policy are exactly what Romney identified:  a strong economy and a strong military. 5.  All that Obama could offer ...

Sanders Leaves The Democrat Party...back To Being An Independent.Jul 27, 2016
Chameleon Sanders.  Having only gorged himself at the public trough since 1979, he wants another term as an independent.  37 years isn't enough, I guess.  Wonder if Hillary will stump for him. But hey -  when you're as good at pulling the wool over so many people's eyes as Sanders has proven to be, there's not much else you can be but a politician.  That, or a used car salesman. ...

A blanket around the Earth Share on tweetTweet 6 Most climate scientists agree the main cause of the current global warming trend is human expansion of the "greenhouse effect"1 -- warming that results when the atmosphere traps heat radiating from Earth toward space. Long-lived gases, remaining semi-permanently in the atmosphere, which do not respond physically or chemically to changes in temperature are describe ...

Skin IssuesFeb 23, 2011

Weight IssuesMar 25, 2012
Okay, I have always been a medium built girl, somewhat petite at 5'3 and always carried my weight well. Two years ago I quit smoking and packed on 20 lbs. I got busy working out and counting calories, and tried to change my eating habits. Okay, it was gradual, but I lost 10 lbs. Over the course of some months it continued to decline gradually. But this Winter around the holidays I pigged out. Then I went through a transition where I lost my job, quit cooking and eating healthy and jus ...

Let's Talk Issues....smAug 01, 2012
Since it has been brought up that libs supposedly don't want to talk issues, let's do just that... Issue 1: Foreign policy: What exactly is it that Romney would do different from Obama in the middle east? I'm assuming pubs have the answers to these questions as they are so sure that Romn ...

Outside Cat, Trying To Solve Eye Issues AndOct 27, 2014
I wrote down below about outside cat that has eye issues. Some told me about L-Lysine, got that and started 1000 mg a day or so ago. What I would like to know, have some Vitamin C that I was giving him and he seemed to have brighter eyes. This morning his eyes again (after not giving him the Vitamin C, switching out for L-Lysine) were looking a little worse. Would it be any problem to give him both the Lysine and the Vitamin C? Thanks my fellow catfolks! ...

Fertility IssuesOct 14, 2016
