As time goes on the lies just get worse and worse and worse. I'm finding out I tune out most of what he says because within the first few sentences he lies and is arrogant. This incident with McChyrstal is right up there with the "beer festival" he had.

But what's the other alternative? Hillary? She's had her claws out for the seat for so long, just standing back patiently waiting to just sleeze on in. There is something so evil going on and I just cringe thinking about the remote possibility that she could get in (and bring "The Impeached One" with her back into what he should be forbidden to step foot in). Obama/Biden, the country pretty much knows what they are about, it's the creature that could place herself in that I just fear. Especially after her comments she said about how we need to be taxed more and be like Brazil (I think that was the country, one of those poverty stricken countries). Of course they exempt themselves from it all - tell me there is not something evil in their neck of the woods.

Obama, McChrystal conclude Oval Office talk - sm

By JENNIFER LOVEN and ANNE GEARAN, Associated Press Writers Jennifer Loven And Anne Gearan, Associated Press Writers รข€“ 4 mins ago

WASHINGTON รข€“ Afghanistan war commander Gen. Stanley McChrystal privately discussed his blistering interview with President Barack Obama Wednesday, but his fate remained unknown as a formal White House war session got under way as planned.

McChrystal was seen leaving the West Wing and climbing into a van after his nearly half-hour showdown with the president. McChrystal had met earlier in the morning at the Pentagon with Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Adm. Mike Mullen.

With Washington abuzz over the McChrystal controversy, there was an almost complete lockdown at the White House on information about the morning's developments.

The general was not seen returning to the White House for the Afghanistan strategy session, as he has been expected. And though Obama was expected to make an announcement on McChrystal's future at some point Wednesday, but there was no word from presidential aides on when รข€” or if รข€” that would happen.

Before the White House meeting, two military officials said McChrystal went in prepared to submit his resignation. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

"I think it's clear that the article in which he and his team appeared ... showed poor judgment," Obama said Tuesday at the close of an unrelated Cabinet meeting. "But I also want to make sure that I talk to him directly before I make any final decisions."

Obama summoned McChrystal to Washington from Afghanistan after learning of scathing, mocking comments from the general and his inner circle about administration officials, including the president. The White House rebuke of McChrystal on Tuesday suggested that it would be hard for him to give an explanation that would be enough to save his job.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai expressed his confidence in McChrystal during a video conference Tuesday night with Obama, Karzai spokesman Waheed Omar said Wednesday in Kabul. "We hope there is not a change of leadership of the international forces here in Afghanistan," Omar told reporters.

In the article in Rolling Stone magazine, McChrystal didn't criticize Obama himself but called the period last fall when the president was deciding whether to approve more troops "painful" and said Obama appeared ready to hand him an "unsellable" position.

McChrystal also said he was "betrayed" by Ambassador Karl Eikenberry, the man the White House chose to be his diplomatic partner in Afghanistan. He accused Eikenberry of raising doubts about Karzai only to give himself cover in case the U.S. effort failed. "Now, if we fail, they can say 'I told you so,'" McChrystal told the magazine. And he was quoted mocking Vice President Joe Biden.

If not insubordination, the remarks รข€” as well as even sharper commentary about Obama and his White House from several in McChrystal's inner circle รข€” were at least an indirect and extraordinary challenge. The capital hasn't seen a similar public contretemps between a president and a top wartime commander since Harry Truman stripped Gen. Douglas MacArthur of his command more than a half-century ago after disagreements over Korean War strategy.

Notably, neither McChrystal nor his team questioned the accuracy of the story or the quotes in it. McChrystal issued an apology.

Military leaders rarely challenge their commanders in chief publicly. When they do, consequences tend to be more severe than a scolding.

Indeed, the presidential spokesman's prepared reaction to the article was remarkably revealing, even for the normally coded language of Washington. Press secretary Robert Gibbs repeatedly declined to say McChrystal's job was safe, and questioned whether McChrystal is "capable and mature enough" to lead the war.

Gates, one of McChrystal's biggest backers, said in a statement that McChrystal had made "a significant mistake."

A senior U.S. military official in Afghanistan told The Associated Press that McChrystal รข€” who had not spoken with Obama on the matter before Wednesday รข€” has been given no indication that he'll be fired but no assurance he won't be. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to describe internal discussions between Washington and the general's office in Kabul.

Obama raised the issue of McChrystal's future in a phone call with British Prime Minister David Cameron on Tuesday night, Cameron's office said Wednesday without disclosing what was said. Britain has about 10,000 troops in Afghanistan, the largest international force after the United States.

McChrystal was viewed as a visionary with the guts and smarts to turn around the beleaguered, 8-year-old Afghanistan war when he was chosen to take over last year.

But despite his military achievements, he has a history of making waves. This is not his first brush with Obama's anger. Last fall, the president scolded McChrystal for speaking too bluntly about his desire for more troops.

Wisconsin Democratic Rep. David Obey, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, called for McChrystal to resign. Sen. John McCain, the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, was among three prominent Republican senators to criticize the general and say a decision about his future should rest with Obama.

Several names circulated among Pentagon and Capitol Hill aides as potential successors, including Gen. James Mattis, Joint Forces Command chief; Lt. Gen. John Allen, the No. 2 at U.S. Central Command; Lt. Gen. David Rodriguez, McChrystal's No. 2 in Afghanistan; Gen. Martin Dempsey, commander of the Army Training and Doctrine Command; and Adm. James Stavridis, the top NATO commander in Europe.

Military officials, speaking on condition of anonymity ahead of the White House meeting, said the administration had not reached out to possible successors but might do so Wednesday.

What a crock. Scolded?  Sounds like a parent scolding a child or vice versa. I didn't read the article and only know what I heard from Rolling Stone mag yesterday, but I heard this morning that the article was inflated; i.e., they stretched the truth of what McC stated and that McC didn't say anything against the Prez, just Biden.

To those in the WH... GROW UP.  McC knew what he needed. O dragged his feet and then didn't give him what he needed. I think that's what started this whole deal and I think O didn't want to give him any troops but knew if he didn't, heads would roll....and not only our soldiers but in the WH.

His troops were all behind him.  Karzai didn't want him canned, said he was doing a good job. Even the Taliban spoke on this and so much as stated the war with them will be their victory [if he's gone].

I'm truly hoping McC will come out and give his side of it. I have a feeling that he resigned and was not fired. He had his resignation in hand, but whether he handed it in or not, only he and O knows.

maybe he was looking for a way out - sick of going to the principal for a spanking nm

After all, who all does he have to answer to? Not just the WH...and we all know the left hand doesn't know or care what the right hand is doing.

As more info comes out, he did resign. Truthfully, good for him. He was just fed up. His comments were mostly against the Ambassador to Afghanistan and no one else.

"General McC did not fight for his job in the oval office. McC handed in his resignation immediately....he did not resign from the military, just the position in Afghanistan."

Petraeus is taking the job and will take over as soon as he is confirmed. On paper, Petraeus was demoted because he was head of Central Command (both wars).

In the meantime, the British commander in Afghanistan will be taking over command until that happens.
The opposite was true - s/m

This was the plan that he pushed and hyped last year as the key to success, so he was fighting the way wanted to.

In the rest of the world, if I was a supervisor and quoted in a public forum with as many derogatory remarks about the CEO, mocked the VP, CSO, etc., I would be out. No questions asked. Even on this board, people are even cautioned about what they say about their current and former employers because it could be actionable.

Like it or not, Obama is/was McCrystal's boss and he answered to him. You cannot allow someone to disrupt unit cohesiveness with these antics, and if he was allowed off the hook for his insubordination, then you would have to let everybody who mouthed off to their sergeant do the same, which would undermine the united front that is essential to an armed force.

Great post! (sm) - Nikki

I agree with you 100%.  McChrystal apparently had a small group of soldier "groupies" who made some of the comments reported in the Rolling Stone.

Obama has to be able to trust his generals, and certainly McChrystal has proven to be untrustworthy.  Those comments in the Rolling Stone were a sign of disloyalty to the Commander-in-Chief, and that can't be tolerated.  Too bad he didn't get a couple of those stars taken away.

Bush fired each and every general that disagreed with him, and I don't remember anyone throwing a hissy fit over that.  Disagreement is one thing, but dissing your Commander-in-Chief in such a public manner is quite another.

As you said, like it or not, Obama is the commander-in-chief, and HE gets to give the orders regarding the war.  If McChrystal is unable or unwilling to follow those orders in a professional manner, then he AND his groupies should be removed.

I think replacing him with Patreus (sp?) is a good choice.

I don't understand why there is such deference displayed on this board for McChrystal.  Of course, if Obama retained McChrystal, then everyone would be blaming Obama for being spineless, so, as usual, he's in a no-win situation.
