;"But despite his military achievements, he has a history of making waves. This is not his first brush with Obama's anger. Last fall, the president scolded McChrystal for speaking too bluntly about his desire for more troops. "
What a crock. Scolded? Sounds like a parent scolding a child or vice versa. I didn't read the article and only know what I heard from Rolling Stone mag yesterday, but I heard this morning that the article was inflated; i.e., they stretched the truth of what McC stated and that McC didn't say anything against the Prez, just Biden.
To those in the WH... GROW UP. McC knew what he needed. O dragged his feet and then didn't give him what he needed. I think that's what started this whole deal and I think O didn't want to give him any troops but knew if he didn't, heads would roll....and not only our soldiers but in the WH.
His troops were all behind him. Karzai didn't want him canned, said he was doing a good job. Even the Taliban spoke on this and so much as stated the war with them will be their victory [if he's gone].
I'm truly hoping McC will come out and give his side of it. I have a feeling that he resigned and was not fired. He had his resignation in hand, but whether he handed it in or not, only he and O knows.
I agree with you 100%. McChrystal apparently had a small group of soldier "groupies" who made some of the comments reported in the Rolling Stone.
Obama has to be able to trust his generals, and certainly McChrystal has proven to be untrustworthy. Those comments in the Rolling Stone were a sign of disloyalty to the Commander-in-Chief, and that can't be tolerated. Too bad he didn't get a couple of those stars taken away.
Bush fired each and every general that disagreed with him, and I don't remember anyone throwing a hissy fit over that. Disagreement is one thing, but dissing your Commander-in-Chief in such a public manner is quite another.
As you said, like it or not, Obama is the commander-in-chief, and HE gets to give the orders regarding the war. If McChrystal is unable or unwilling to follow those orders in a professional manner, then he AND his groupies should be removed.
I think replacing him with Patreus (sp?) is a good choice.
I don't understand why there is such deference displayed on this board for McChrystal. Of course, if Obama retained McChrystal, then everyone would be blaming Obama for being spineless, so, as usual, he's in a no-win situation.
