Uh-oh. Boehner needs to blame shutdown on

Posted: Oct 5, 2013

That's the one that says unless we have a minority of a minority vote, we cannot bring bills up for vote....even a minority of one.  Seems former SOH Dennis Hastert is trying to distance himself from this current debacle some are trying to carry out in his name.  Says the Hastert Rule "never really existed" (LOL).  It was characterized as a guideline he went by, and specified a simply majority of 218 being the number he worked with during his SOH tenure.  He went on to say that (unlike Boehner), "If we had to work with democrats, we did."

In his interview, he also revealed that Boehner "doesn't talk to me....John has his own circles, and he doesn't reach out.  That's his nature."  Hastert is the longest serving GOP speaker, having had an 8-year term.

John Boehner Says GOP Will Move Forward With Plan That Could Risk DHS ShutdownJan 08, 2015
After gunmen attacked a satirical French newspaper on Wednesday, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Republicans won't back away from a fight over immigration that risks halting funding for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. "I believe that the president's executive actions with regard to immigration are outside of the Constitution and outside of his powers, and I believe that we can deal with that issue in the Department of Homeland Security bill without jeopard ...

No DHS Shutdown?Feb 25, 2015
Three days before a partial Homeland Security shutdown, lawmakers cleared the way Wednesday for Senate passage of legislation to fund the agency without immigration-related provisions opposed by President Barack Obama. Approval in the Senate would send the issue to the House, where some conservatives derided the plan as a surrender to the White House. Other Republicans predicted it would clear, but Speaker John Boehner declined to say if he would put it to a vote. "I'm waiting for the Sen ...

House Republicans Changed The Rules So A Majority Vote Couldn't Stop The Government Shutdown Posted: 10/13/2013 11:27 pm EDT  |  Updated: 10/14/2013 12:40 pm EDT In its effort to extract concessions from Democrats in exchange for opening the government, the GOP has faced a fundamental strategic obstacle: They don't have the votes. A majority of the members of the House have gone on record saying that if they were given the oppo ...

Obama: Politics And Ideology Should Not Trigger ShutdownApr 05, 2011
Note: During Boehner's statement, he said, "We don't have a revenue problem. We have a spending problem." Obama said they are close. There is NO agreement as of yet. Democrats are still at $33B. The White House is insisting the top number is $73B but that ALSO includes the $43B already cut in the short term budgets to keep the government running. The budget cuts the Democrats want are not cuts at all according to the Republicans. "It's just smoke and mirrors." It looks lik ...

[Or as another GOP Senator who supports shutting down the government, no matter how many people it hurts, puts it: “It’s mostly symbolic,” Sen. Chik-Fil-A Owner Pays Employees During A 5-month ShutdownAug 16, 2015
in Austin, Texas shocked his 50 employees by paying their full salaries during a five-month period when the business shut down. Jeff Glover, who has operated the Chick-fil-A for 15 years, wanted to remodel the building to accommodate more customers, but didn’t want to hurt his workers. So he continued paying them for the full five months. The restaurant, which reopened this week at West Braker Lane and U.S. 183, is now the largest Chick-fil-A in Austin–and surely the chicken retailer ...

News in from Ohio, the home state of the Boehner.  Apparently the republ guvinator, the self-same fella whose first act in office was ramming through a union busting law (which was later overwhelmingly swatted down by the voters) decided he was going to give his State O' The State address in a small town (302 miles round trip) instead of the state capitol.  He claims it will add no cost.  Guess he doesnt consider satellite equipment and the cost and time of all the LEGISLATOR ...

BOEHNER BLINKSOct 10, 2013
I hope the blowback to the GOP is like a death knell to the party.  You don't try to score political points on the backs of those who are hurt in a partial shutdown - ordinary hardworking people from all party affiliations. I guess they thought this was THE ONLY way to get the president to negotiate, but I don't think that's true.  It's because they tried to tie OBAMACARE to the vote - he was willing to negotiate anything else. Here is the unavoidable truth: NO ON ...

Boehner A Traitor?Jan 23, 2015
I think it absolutely dead wrong that he invited Netanyahu without consulting the White House.  Seems now it is being reported that there is great opposition in Israel for Netanyahu to go to speak before Congress also.  It is thought that Netanyahu had a hand in prompting this "speech" before Congress to promote himself in the elections in Israel. I think Netanyahu will back out.  At least we won't have to try Boehner as a traitor then.  That would just be mes ...

Boehner Is Becoming Invincible--they Won'tOct 10, 2015
Boehner insists he wants to leave as scheduled at the end of October, but if Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., won't agree to replace him, it may take a while for a consensus to form around an alternative. "While we go through this process, we've got to continue to address the people's priorities. This institution cannot grind to a halt," Boehner told Republicans Friday morning in a closed-door session. "It is my hope — and indeed it is my plan — for this House to elect a new speaker ...

Great Article On Boehner By BBCOct 08, 2013
"On a very simple level, the closing of most of the American federal government can be pinned on the ambitions of one man, Speaker of the House John Boehner. ... This Congress is held in the lowest public esteem since the invention of public opinion polls. And the Republicans are more disliked than the Democrats. Once seen as a skilled dealmaker, Mr Boehner isn't able to make deals. Never seen as an ideologue, he has now relinquished control of the Republican policy agenda to the party&# ...

Article for LA Times: By Michael Hiltzik November 22, 2013, 3:54 p.m. In the latest attempt by congressional Republicans to make theatrical hay out of the Affordable Care Act without actually trying to make it any better, House Speaker John A. Watching the "opening" ceremonies. Boehner looks ill, irritated, like he might cry (that's sort of normal), but he doesn't look right. I guess he might just be irritated with Pelosi. The GOP Is Imploding--I Hope BoehnerSep 26, 2015
I’m predicting that if Republicans don’t win the presidency next year, all hell is going to break loose within the GOP – especially if Jeb Bush wins the nomination (which I’m still predicting he does). If that happens, I believe we’re going to see a “war” between the moderates claiming Republicans have to start being more inclusive to other demographics of voters, while the tea party conservatives are going to claim that the GOP keeps losing because they’re not running “real co ...
