They provide statistics and educated conclusions about socioeconomic situations....which is more than can be said about most news outlets. Of course, their opinions are longer and the short attention span viewer could not keep up.

These situations are involved and complicated and need people who can actually read and digest---not the average American. So SPLC correlates the material and tries to break it down and make it comprehensible to the average American.
