Today the republicans in the senate prevented a veterans’ jobs bill from coming to a vote by forcing a budget point of order vote. Democrats came up 2 votes short of the 60 needed to defeat the GOP’s budget measure

on the rule, not the bill itself...but I did find this:

The Senate voted 58 to 40 largely on party lines in favor of waiving the procedural objection, short of the three-fifths majority needed. Republicans said the bill was in violation of the Budget Control Act, prohibiting new programs that would add to the deficit.

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) said GOP concerns were about the $1 billion price tag for the program over five years.

“If in fact we want to help veterans get jobs, there are lots of ways to do it,” Coburn said on the floor before the vote. “We need to make sure the job training programs we have are working, and they’re not.”

Patty Murray and Bill Nelson said the vote effectively kills the legislation, but Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee who raised the budget point of order, said the action simply requires the veterans committee to come back with a bill that does not add to the deficit.

Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), the ranking member of the Senate veterans committee, voted against allowing the job corps bill to advance. He has introduced alternative legislation that includes several veterans job-training initiatives but removes the provision establishing the job corps.

Excuses are always created for killing good bills. - For 4 years it has been about THEIR jobs. SM

They've said they would try to defeat all legislation brought by this administration in public a bunch of times. These are NOT good guys.

Note that, although this is the most unpopular congress ever, they are NOT afraid of hurting us. There is no expectation of the balance changing in this election because both sides have gerrymandered themselves almost complete job security--from our displeasure. In the past few years, more congressmen have died in office than have lost their seats in elections.

I recommend we make those jobs a lot LESS appealing and a lot less secure as just one way of protecting our own.

BTW-gerrymandering used to be illegal. Gee, I wonder what happened to that law?

I spent quite a few hours reading about gridlock and filibustering. - backwards typist

It goes w-a-a-a-ay back in history. Off the top of my head, I think it started with Alexander Hamilton.

I'll have to look up my notes on that.

P.S. When using filibustering, gridlock, or blocking bills...whatever you want to call it, neither party worries about hurting us. It's all about THEM and their party.

I agree that we should make those jobs less appealing BUT we are "gridlocked" (sorry-lol) because they are the only ones who can vote on those changes, although I see where more and more citizens are waking up on that point.
Fact is, gerrymandering used to be illegal. Fillibustering - was rarely used and not to screw our vets. SM

We are each of us part of the solution to this problem or part of the problem. Do we really want four more years of this?

Although I have always believed in the value of experience, this year and for as long as it takes I will vote against every incumbent on the ballot. Because, as long as this continues, our nation is in big trouble and our principle of one man one vote a dreadful joke.

Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) said on the Senate floor today that “this bill is fully paid for and does not violate pay-go rules.”

Take everything that Patty Murray says - with a grain of salt.

Remember when she told a group of high school students terrorist leader Osama bin Laden is popular in poor countries because he helped pay for schools, roads and even day care centers? This was after 911.

She's one of the dumbest ones in DC.
You demonstrate her honesty. Problem is, Al Queda DID! - How do you think it got local support?SM

These days its leadership is 90% wiped out, and, of course, the locals know it for what it is, those who think at least.

Bread So Cheap At WalmartAug 19, 2010
Please someone telling me I am just being negative. I have started worrying about low prices at Walmart, because of hearing about their trade practices. Today I noticed the usual $2.78 loaf of multigrain bread that is my favorite, is reduced permanently to $2.50. I am wondering who is "taking the hit" for that 28-cent reduction. The bakery companies? Other local grocery stores usually have that bread for $3.50 or so, but often **on sale** at $2.50. Is Walmart's reduction an effort to s ...

The last two paragraphs are the most interesting. This is why Obama may go down in history as a liar-in-chief. This just proves how he is so incompetent. AP Interview: Iraq Premier Nixes US Ground TroopsSep 18, 2014
Oh, look. The new leader of Iraq does not want and will not allow ground troops from other countries in Iraq. According to the SOFA signed by Bush in 2008, a system had to be established for Iraqi approval of every single US mission. Every single time that US troops leave their bases, it has to be cleared by the Iraqis. Accor ...
