Okay...I understand that May 5th is Mexicans day of independece....IN MEXICO. Why aren't American citizens allowed to wear the American flag in AMERICA because it might offend Mexicans...are you kidding me? I really hate to break this to Mexicans who are here legally and illegally....but this isn't Mexico. How can they stop Americans from wearing the American Flag in their country? How would they like us to go to Mexico on the 4th of July and tell them they can't wear anything patriot to Mexico because that offends Americans because it is OUR holiday. Seriously....what is our country coming to? I have never heard of such an ignorant thing as not being able to wear a patriotic shirt in your own country because it is another country's holiday. Does any one else find this absolutely ridiculous?

From now on...I'm going to make it a point to wear my country's colors on May 5th and if it offends Mexicans....GO BACK TO MEXICO AND CELEBRATE CINCO DE MAYO!!!! This is AMERICA!!!!!

These Mexicans want the American kids to apologize for wearing American colors on Cinco de Mayo.

Also...wearing the color orange is different than wearing the red, white, and blue. Would the Irish be offended if we wore those colors on St. Patrick's Day? We might get pinched but that is about it!

While there's no penalty (of which I'm aware) for violating it, the flag code prohibits the wearing of the United States flag as clothing.

I'm Mexican and I see no reason why those Mexican students should have been offended. We do live in America and even though my family does celebrate Mexican holidays in our home, I don't get angry when others do not celebrate with us because it is not a recognized holiday here in the states.

The principal in California who told American kids wearing American flag shirts (in their own country) to go home is Miguel Rodriguez--so its quite possible he just might be a member of the ''Mexican community'' you mention. They had every right to wear what they wore no matter their reasoning; it's just a shame that it wasn't ignored as it should have been. Not only did they get the attention they wanted at school, now they have the added value of the Streisand effect. More than they could have hoped for! Now they are celebrities. lol. Regardless of whether or not those students wore those specific things on a Mexican holiday...this shouldn't have been an issue at all. American's should have the right to show their patriotism any day they choose. Mexican immigrants have a right to celebrate a holiday from their homeland. There should have been no offense taken by anyone.
