So here's a thought: What if we don't like ANY

Posted: Dec 29, 2011

I mean - NONE of them?   You want to vote out whoever's currently in office or in Congress, etc., but what good is it when they just pick MORE ignoramuses to take their place?  That's what I see happening now.  They're ALL part of the greater problem.  They're ALL self-serving, greedy do-nothings.

So imagine if the entire country held a "voting strike".  (Yes, I know that could never happen... there will always be those who think the ignoramuses running for office are just fine).  But imagine a scenario in which, somehow, the entire country of citizens decides to just boycott the entire election.

What would happen if, on election day, NO ONE showed up at the polls?  Not a single, solitary person?  Do they have a contingency plan for that?  What do you think they would do next?  Schedule another election?  Go on TV and chastise us?  Call out the National Guard?  Leave existing elected officials in office?  Or just pick whoever THEY like, and appoint them?  (Which - let's face it - is pretty much what they already do.  Our votes don't really count for squat anymore, anyway - U.S. elections are pretty rigged.

Anyway, I just thought I'd put that out there.  It's what I wish we could do in 2012, because I don't see a single solitary person running for office who has any leadership qualities whatsoever, just their own personal desires for personal gain.  What happens to the rest of us is not their concern.

I like Rosann Barr as a candidate - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Too bad the voting system is corrupt in USA. What we need is a good independent candidate, but will that happen, not

Roseann - Not interestedin another socialist

[ In Reply To ..]
Recently stated she was an staunch socialist, but you don't see her giving away her cash and living in an average-sized home, driving an inexpensive car. Less than 1/3 of all eligible voters actually register and go and vote. Can't blame everything on the voting system if people are too lazy to get to the polls and cast their vote. No thanks on Rosie! One socialist in the White House was enough!

I think we need to set the bar a little higher than that. - No more movie-star politicians.

Look at us out in Cali - Schwartzenegger, Reagan, etc.

Don't make California's same mistake.

Thank you for saying what I was afraid to say - mthead

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't like any of the candidates, either. I really don't know if I will sit this election out or not; I really hate holding my nose with one hand and pulling the lever with the other.

I feel the same way. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Once again I will be forced to vote for the lesser of 2 evils. I firmly believe our country cannot withstand another 4 years of Obama....so my vote will not be for anything other than against him.

I just can't believe that with all of the people - mthead

[ In Reply To ..]
in this country, this batch is the best there is. Is it because the process is so corrupt that the best and the brightest can't rise to the top?
You said it. They don't want the best and brightest - - theyre SCARED of them. (Meerkat)

I guess a candidate must be rich enough to - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
run. Middle class/poor not welcome, even though THEY have the pulse of the nation as a whole.

Congress is by far an "elite" group of millionaires, so if you don't have the bucks to buy into the system, you stand no chance of being able to run.

LOL - your "holding your nose" analogy was SOO - on-target! I may sit this one out, too.

[ In Reply To ..]
In 2012, unless some last-minute candidate enters the field that actually has some smarts, some initiative, and the cojones to stand up to Congress, then why even bother? It'll just be the same as ever for those of us at the bottom: Work our tails off for peanuts so The Man can get fat and rich, continue to lose our homes, our healthcare, our savings (if we even have any left at all).

Voting for any of these douchebag candidates like being given the choice:
"Okay - YOU get to decide - do you want both arms and legs sawed off with a chainsaw, or do you want to be disemboweled with a fork? YOU decide."

The country has hit a point that it's going to take a lot more than just a mere ELECTION to change things.

Yes, that's how I feel in a nutshell. - mthead

[ In Reply To ..]
I may get flamed for this, but I wish there was a democratic candidate other than Obama running, i.e., Hillary. I voted for Obama but he wasn't my first choice. Hillary wouldn't take half the crap that Obama has taken from Congress but, of course, so many people are skeert of women that she wouldn't have made the cut. Plus she had "baggage," or so they say.
I voted for Obama too. I think he's a good man, - but I think we all underestimated - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
how much clout all the Repubs in Congress had, and how determined they were to block anything Obama tried to do. (Likely to their own detriment... even lots of Republicans I've talked to want to vote every last one of them out). They turned it into a Pub-vs-Dem war, and it seems like the whole lot of them just plain forgot there was a country to run.

I was pretty equal on Obama & Hillary -either one seemed fine to me, but I think you're right, that she would've taken a lot less s__t from people. BUT, I also think that because of that, Congress would've had even more animosity towards her then they already do against Obama.

Either way, I think that as long as we've got all those meatheads and OLD MEN in Congress, the country will be at a standstill, or worse, backslide even worse than it already has. Regardless of party affiliation (and I think we need to eliminate the party system), we need to dump all those aging, career politicians, and get some up-and-coming young THINKERS and DOERS in office.

Either that, or we better start brushing up on our Chinese.
Obama a joke - He deserves what he gets
[ In Reply To ..]
Oh poor Obama again...so misunderstood. He is an idiot. He had COPMPLETE CONTROL OF CONGRESS, BOTH HOUSES FOR 2 YEARS, a politician's dream. He had no experience, admitted to selling cocaine in his book, never had a real job like any of us, and has publically stated (and wrote in his book) he pursued and affiliated himself with marxists all through college. Give me a break! I guess if you are in love with socialism and communism, he's your dream man and Hilary your dream girl. People that hold him up need to really read what this man wrote (and Hilary, too). But then, if you also find socialism/communism attractive, you would find both of them attractive, as well. Based on their believes (watch their speeches/interviews), you have no reason to complain when they take your "stuff" to give to others. That is what YOU voted for....not me!
Socialism - mbmt
[ In Reply To ..]
If you think you do not find some things about socialism attractive, you might need to think about that some more. The United States is not purely a capitalistic society, never has been, and not everything about capitalism is attractive.

[ In Reply To ..]

The democrats have no good candidates - that I see.

[ In Reply To ..]
You cannot spend your way out of debt and no matter how much you want to tax the rich...that still won't be enough money to pay for all the entitlement programs that democrats promise to buy the poor man's vote.

No good Dems candidates - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
You said it all. If was a matter of spending your way out of debt, everybody would be rich. I am sick of the Dems. Have not seen any good one for a LONG TIME. The 1% Dems like to scream about cannot carry all the entitlements. Sooner or later, they will be dragged down, too.

Don't you remember the last election? - The Democrats WERE voted out - people wanted a party change

[ In Reply To ..]
I seriously like to know who you have in mind that is a good candidate that is a democrat. I would like to know who the good candidates are. I don't care what party they belong to, I just want to know who they are so I can follow them. I have not heard one politician yet in any party that I have any confidence in. I do know that the democrats were voted out the last time because of what they did and people had enough. Why would anyone want to go back the same old same ol problems we had before. I think the only politicians I like is Kucinich and ...well actually I can't think of anyone else right now. Most everyone in the DC crowd is only in for themselves. Sure they have great campaign lines, but that's all it is, a line. I am very very fearful that Mitt is going to win the nomination. Then when I heard Gingrich was talking about Palin as a running mate, all I could think of is - noooooooo, you can't actually be that stupid can you? You are supposed to be very knowledgeable about history (political history too), so were you asleep during the last campaign? But don't think I have anything to worry about there because Mitt is the pick. Just nobody out there who is trustworthy that I know of. If anyone has any names of candidates they believe are good picks I'd like to know who they are and why they would be good.

pols - no good ones

[ In Reply To ..]
There is no such thing as a perfect candidate and, unfortunately, people keep looking for one. There are a lot of good poeple out there. You have the look, read and study their backgrounds. Personally, I think Kucinich is way over the top and way too liberal. Have followed him a great deal, and do not like what I see. I agree that Dems needed to go. They want people to believe they are for the "little" people as one of them said recently. However, their actual votes in Congress tell a very different story. They have placed more tax burden on the middle class than anyone. Just read how they voted. Look at what Reid and Pelosi have done. I do not believe in abortion (if there is no respect for life at its most delicate stage, there is no respect at all), and then I go from there. I watch debates, speeches, interviews and read what candidates say/do. Long process, but well worth it.

Hopefully the normal, regular people have become desensitized to whatever the Karl Rove/Koch brothers are putting in the drinking water. (Note the Wisconsin recall efforts that ousted 2 of the recently elected Republican congressmen, and they are well on their way to recalling Republican Gov. Walker.) That whiplash, knee-jerk last election was in response to the people's misunderstanding of how the Republican policies crushed them. They are getting their heads back on straight and the Republicans will be taken behind the woodshed for another whoopin' next election.

I think most...if not all politicians - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
are like that. We stupidly vote them in and then they completely disregard what is best for us. I've about had it with all of them...both parties. They are the same. They are all being backed financially by either big business or unions. The biggest difference I see in the parties is that one party wants to buy votes by offer entitlement programs which we cannot sustain while the other party doesn't do much at all to help anyone. Either way...they all suck and I'm ready to clean out D.C. Time to start over.

We need to get rid of the party system and vote - for the best person for the job.

[ In Reply To ..]
It should be illegal for corporations to have any say in the matter whatsoever, and corporate funding should be made a felony.

The TV ads should be illegal, too. Ever see one with even half a grain of truth in it? Nope, me neither. Just inflammatory, hysterical mud-slinging.

Each candidate should get only one thing: A 15-minute block of time on national TV in prime time to say why they feel they are the best man/woman for the job. AND, they have to write their speech themselves, with no help.

And that's IT! The rest of the time, they have to go out and talk to the people in person, and quit polluting our airwaves with all their slander of each other.

I agree, that each and every member of DC needs to be kicked out, and replaced with new faces, PREFERABLY some younger ones who can actually communicate with one another, and come up with some new ideas on where to take this country next. If we vote the status-quo back in, the only place the U.S. will be going in the future is straight to CHINA.

Party system - Good Idea!

Maybe we all need to do write-in candidates - mthead

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't know that much about the political process. Can you have write-in candidates for the presidency? I'm a lefty, but I think my republican city mayor could manage this country better than anybody vying for the position at the moment. Can't I write him in?
Imagine if it were ALL write-ins, and no "official" - candidates at all! -(sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
Out of the millions of names that would appear on ballots across the country, if you had to vote for a PERSON, and not a politician, I wonder what names would come most often?

That's the problem with our current system, and especially with the party-system. All they do is mud-sling and diss the other side, but no-one actually DOES anything anymore. It's all just a bunch of hot air they're blowing 24/7. And our 4-year term in office has a lot of flaws: One being that they're no sooner elected, than they're already campaigning for their 2nd term. It's RIDICULOUS!!! We don't pay them to campaign, we pay them to GOVERN!

I also think that if the terms were longer - say, 6 to 8 years - that not only the voters, but those who do the nominating, might think a little longer and harder about who they're running. 2012's potential Republican candidates are a laughable circus of misfits and losers. Even if I were a Republican (I'm more of an independent, myself), there is no way in H--- I would vote for any of those buffoons. To do so would be saying to the rest of the world, "Hey, look at us! We don't give a ____ who we elect to office!"

The whole USA needs a deep-cleaning! - Meerkat -sm

[ In Reply To ..]
In the White House and on Capitol Hill (heh- heh... it really should be "Capital" Hill, don't you think? Money-money-money!)

Not to mention our crooked banking system, and our even more crooked financial system and stock-trading system. The healthcare system needs a deep-cleaning, as well.

The country has become totally infested with political ROACHES, and I think 2012 is the year where we need to go get that can of Raid and eliminate them.

We're also infested with BEDBUGS (employers who offshore US jobs), and we need to get rid of the perks they're getting for doing so (the proverbial mattress they live in), and start making our middle class strong once again with good, living-wage jobs.

I had the same thought - bananahead

[ In Reply To ..]
I have also wondered what it would be like if nobody went to the polls. I consider myself a liberal-leaning independent...none of the current candidates represent me. I was on the "vote for change" bandwagon with Obama. Unfortunately he has been a big disappointment for me. As a woman, I don't like Romney either. I don't trust either one of them. I want to vote, but I am REALLY confused because I feel equally unsure of either direction; the only two real choices we have. Our government etch away at our civil liberties every day, while we are too busy trying to, as Bush put it "put food on our families." So, what IS the answer for a citizen who feels as I do?
