And I used to ride a transport bus with them when I had knee surgery, as I couldn't drive and had to get to physical therapy every day....I made some good friends on that bus. But I am smart enough to realize Coulter did not mean it in that way - I think moron would have been a better word myself, for this president. Last year, no increased taxes were needed on anyone (June 2011) in a public speech he made - now the rich need to be taxed....and they say women can't make up their minds...I understand your sensitivity regarding the word used by Coulter, but again, I feel she meant it in a different descriptive way -

I wonder if you happened to hear the wonderful interview on NPR, in which they invited an activist with Down syndrome to discuss Ann Coulter's remarks. He exhibited intelligence and consciousness beyond anything Ms. Coulter could muster, and in so doing managed to make her sound pretty stupid without even trying.

Used in medical terms, retard(ation) is acceptable. When using it to insult someone else's intelligence, it's bottomfeeding, as those with said condition cannot help it, and many do not have the capacity to defend themselves from verbal taunts and insults from a vicious attention seeker like Coulter whether it's directed at them or anyone else.
