We're getting a tiny raise BUT Medicare is going up $30 a month, our other plan to cover what Medicare doesn't cover is going up $20 and our Rx cost went up $50.

Thank you very much! That $4-$5 will really go far to pay those higher insurance rates, won't it?

SS COLA is based on gas prices. Anyone have any statistics on the cost of health care, the CEO salaries, cost of a colonoscpy, minimum wage, social security benefits, etc? Back in the good old days, you could buy a house for $30,000 and a new car for $7,000. Minimum wage was about $3.00 an hour and my health insurance was $75 per month. My husband's was $50 per month. Mine was more expensive because "risk of possible pregnancy". You had to inform the insurance company that you planned to get pregnant, I guess so that they would have time to kick you off the policy or double your rate.

Those were the days, my friend.

It's based on the inflation rate during the third quarter of the year. They better not try to change Medicare or they'll have a senior uprising on their hands. AARP also has a petition letter you can sign and send to Mr. Trump telling him not to mess with Medicare. I signed it and sent it in. You can probably go to their website and find it. I urge everyone who is near or at Medicare age to do so.

Hate is too rampant today. I believe it's because of the anarchists "reving (sp)" up the uninformed and people like Sharpton, Jackson, Farakkhan, Jeremiah Wright, the Westboro Baptist Church (may he burn in YKW), plus groups like OWS, BLM, Anonymous, CPUSA, KKK, NBPP, and even some in Congress speak hate all too often.

wanted to "privatize" SS and MC. They talked about ALLOWING people to privatize PART of their SS taxes VOLUNTARILY. Never a forced privatization.

In the good old days, our employer paid ALL our health insurance costs IOW, free, both at my husband's job and mine. We never had a 'carryover' charge either where we had to pay anything towards any appointment or hospitalization.

We also had profit-sharing and pension plans where you got a "bonus" check if the company made a profit that year. If you voluntarily added it to the pension plan, the employer matched that contribution.

Those were the days, my friend. :)

Social Security has kept millions out of poverty. As for Medicare - were it not available only a very small percentage of seniors would be able to afford health insurance - if they could even find a provider. If you want to know what it was like before these programs there is plenty of historical information available.

They don't pay that much in physician bills. Do you know how much the family physician gets for his services from Medicare? Do you know how much a specialist gets from Medicare?

I do and it's not worth paying for Medicare because you still need 2 or 3 supplements plus an Rx to cover SOME of the costs that Medicare doesn't cover.

Many senior citizens would not be able to get any health care at all through private insurers and if they can, private insurers are famous for finding ways to deny claims.

Republicans had come up with a plan back in 2009 that had some good points.

I have no idea what the solution would be. I do know that the Repubicans want to incorporate some of their plan with some of Obama's plan like they tried to do back in 2009 but were blocked by Obama and the Democratic party at every turn IF the Republicans were even allowed in the meetings. I watched the fighting back then. It was really childish.

Maybe there will be some adults in the room this time. :)
