thought the comment about "allowing someone to ascend" was pretty arrogant(talking about the website, not the poster).

Do not understand the level of animosity toward this woman. How can a person hate, to this degree, someone they have never met. Why has ugliness become the norm in politics?

She certainly does attract - attention

[ In Reply To ..]
It appears to be more disrespect than animosity though. She gets quite a few lampoonings. If it is true that respect must be earned, she has a lot of work to do.

I understand....I just do not understand the motivation to do it. - sam

and the term "hillbillies" sounds elitist and really puts off the people in flyover America who don't live in cities...just like the "bitterly clinging to their guns and religion" comment did. Just don't understand that mindset. Take issue with her politics, but the personal potshots...I think it reflects more negatively on the lampooner than the lampoonee.

Getting a ha-ha by making fun of someone you don't even know...I guess I would say the same about the website...if it is true respect must be earned, they have a long way to go as well.
No doubt they read our news and see our - TV shows

in Taiwan. It is definitely true that numerous US citizens disrespect her. It is quite disheartening that other countries feel the same. Not saying it is right that this happens, just that "it is what it is."
Yep. I was kind of ambivalent toward her at first.... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
but the more nasty the attacks became and the more the rhetoric escalated the more interested I became. I bought her last book and read it last week. I am not ambivalent anymore. Maybe the portion of the country who do NOT disrespect her knew more about her than I did.

I certainly respect the person who wrote that book. Probably because she is "my kind of people," meaning the common sense attitudes of my parents and the people that I grew up knowing. I guess we are all products of our environment in a sense.

So if people read that book and disrespect her because of what's in it, I guess they will have to disrespect the other half of the country too. I wish it were not that way. Makes me sad. I remember when it was election time and I was a kid the old folks would have their domino games and grouse about politics (yes, Democrats and Republicans together) but when the election was over they were neighbors again. How long has it been since Americans were neighbors again?

THAT is what I miss, and that is what I hate about political parties, what they have become, and how they have divided us as a nation.

Thank you for the conversation!
Did you see her facebook page on - Thanksgiving?
[ In Reply To ..]
She was mocking President Obama's misspeaks. No class.
No, I don't follow her on Facebook. However.... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
the way the DNC mocks her every word and every move, I can understand it. She's human. He has a political machine to mock her for him, although he did a fair amount of mocking her himself during the election cycle. She has no political machine so if she wants to tit for tat, that's her business. Don't know that I would not do the same given what has been thrown at her.

If mocking his misspeaks makes her a person with no class, then about every news outlet, the DNC and left-leaning blog/website out there is right in the no class class with her.
Yes, I must have missed where - he
[ In Reply To ..]
mocked her, and I disagree that he has the DNC do it for him. But, I do agree that anyone who mocks other's misspeaks is completely classless.
I think maybe one of the posts on her page sums up what... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
people are feeling...a lot of those people who came out in the midterms.

"Texan...retired USF...I'll take Sarah's gaffes any day over brilliantly read BS off a teleprompter. Sarah makes us feel real again."

People identify with her. Over and over in the posts I see people refer to her as "Sarah." She seems approachable to them. She seems like she understands how it is at their kitchen table, how they live...she is like one of them. That is kind of how I felt after I read her book. First thought was, she gets it. She understands how people are feeling.

Thanks for telling me about the Facebook page. It is very, very interesting.
Oh, you are welcome. I didn't realize that - possibly
[ In Reply To ..]
some didn't know about it. I would have said something sooner.

Yes, it is interesting and she certainly is polarizing. She strikes a nerve for sure. I like to read her facebook page just to see what she is really like as much as I can. She is definitely not my cup of tea, but to each his own.

Completely understand, your prerogative. And you do make a good point... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
about the polarization, and although she may be the face of it, she is not the cause of it. There is great discontent in this country right now and a lot of this country feel disenfranchised, for lack of a better word, from their government. That was made obvious in the midterms. Here is someone who has been elevated (largely by the left) to a national figure and keeping her there even though she is no longer holding any public office...has made her visible to what I call the "little people" in the "flyover states." They never really felt anybody understood nor cared about them. They feel like she does. That is pretty powerful. Obama made a lot of people feel that way before his election and a lot of those people feel like he let them down. Human nature.

There is a whole lot more to Sarah and her effect than I knew. Fascinating!
I did go to her page and looked at the post for myself.... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
there was significantly more to it than your post implies. She listed some of his gaffes, said she didn't have time to list all of Biden's and we know how many times he stuck his foot in his mouth...and went on to say that everybody at time or another makes verbal gaffes. She then called out the press for making her misspeaks headline news while at the same time ignoring all of President Obama's.

I think you would have to admit...she has a point.

Don't you think you would be defensive at this point? The left is after this woman like crazy people. Can't say I blame her in this, and if you consider mocking misspeaks low class then you need to add President Obama, the DNC, MSNBC, Huffpost, DailyKos...and on and on and on. What she did on her Facebook is MILD compared to what has been done to her.

So all of the above need to belong on the no class train right along with her.

To be fair.
See my previous post. I already said - that
[ In Reply To ..]
anyone who mocks misspeaks is completely classless. I am; however, having trouble finding where President Obama mocked Sarah's misspeaks. Would you share that if you have time? I would appreciate it very much.

To answer your question about being defensive. I guess no one knows how they would react unless faced with the situation; however, I have often thought that I would not have handled myself in the same manner as Sarah has all along, so possibly I would not have to face it in the first place.

Just a thought.
Oh, so she deserves what she is getting in your opinion.... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
that she brought classless mocking upon herself.

Sorry, I disagree with that. I don't see her doing anything I haven't seen other politicians do on both sides of the aisle. For some reason, most of the left (present company included, it would seem) just hate this woman. It is obvious in the level of the rhetoric and the kinds of things that have been leveled at she and her family.

I guess we are just different in that way. I don't think anyone deserves the kind of vitriol that has been leveled at Sarah Palin. What could she have possibly done to deserve that? In what way could she have acted that so incenses people they feel the need to attack her in the ways she has been attacked? It goes way beyond classless. Way beyond.

Just a thought.
Yes, she - is
[ In Reply To ..]
That's just the way it goes.
That is way some attitudes go, yes. - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
to hear CBS tell it, her campaigning during midterms is what helped shellack the Democrats. I couldn't figure out why Dems were so afraid of her...it is becoming more clear. You would think they would have realized the smearing only makes her look better and them worse. Oh well...karma and all that.

lol. :)
A "smearing" can - make
[ In Reply To ..]
one look better, but only if they don't "smear" back. It's a character thing.
Ah. Glad to know that you agree that the "smearers"... - sam

This article was written by Secretary of Commerce in the Clinton administration and Chairman of Algore's campaign. The announcement by Alabama Rep. Parker Griffith that he is switching to the Republican Party is just the latest warning sign that the Democratic Party -- my lifelong political home -- has a critical decision to make: Either we plot a more moderate, centrist course or risk electoral disaster not just in the upcoming midterms but in many elections to come. But now they face a ...

Who Had The Worst Week In Washington? Sarah Palin.Jan 18, 2011
In moments of crisis, great politicians rise to the occasion. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) only helped create a new and even larger controversy. At issue was a map that Palin's political team published during the 2010 campaign.
