enough with the "provide link". It is not a requirement. Liberals are the only one who demand people provide links and yet when they do they say not credible.

Demanding someone provide a link is unacceptable. People have a right to post without always having to provide one of your pre-approved liberal links.
Could you please provide a link to who died and made you boss? - neener
[ In Reply To ..]
You're not the boss of us.

And it's perfectly acceptable to ask someone for a link to where they got their info in order to verify that it's true.

Huh? Never said or indicated I was boss. - neener back at ya
[ In Reply To ..]
Never said I was the boss.

Yes, its acceptable to "ask" for a link. Unacceptable to "demand" one.

Besides if I do post my opinion about something I've heard or read I'm certainly not going to provide you a link and anytime anyone demands a link of me as to why I have my opinions I will post again that it is unacceptable.
Well, could you please post a link to where using the word please = demanding? - Neener
[ In Reply To ..]
Are you are just looking for a reason to pick a fight? In my world, using the word please = good manners... not being snippy or demanding. It sure looks like you're just itching to argue since both posts above yours were pretty mild.

And please don't make fun of my name. Thank you.
I was wondering the same thing - seems like I remember

the moderator stating that posting a link is optional, and that if people really wanted to find one they could look it up themselves.
Read the TOS and the sticky notes above. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
It does not say anywhere that you cannot ask someone for a link or question where they got their information. What a moderator may have said to soothe the screamers a few weeks back doesn't really matter since new people come to the board every day and may have missed that post. If it was that important, the stickies above would have been modified.

Seriously, if you're having a conversation with someone, you've never asked them "where did you hear that?" Asking for a link on here is basically the same thing.
Not to argue with you but many times - backwards typist
[ In Reply To ..]
liberals want "proof" or "evidence" of what a conservative posts, then dismiss them because they aren't from a liberal link.

Yet if a conservative asks for a link from a liberal, the liberal feels indignant and insulted as if we should all take their word for what they post.

It's happened time and time again. It would be nice if links were posted and we could all look at them and decide then debate, but that never happens.

Have a nice evening.
Why does everything always have to be turned into the horrible libs - picking on poor sweet cons
[ In Reply To ..]
sob story? It's simple, if you state something as fact on here, you should be able to back it up from a reliable source. If you can't find a reliable source AND you get bent when someone points out the fact that you're trying to present an opinion piece, blog rant, YouTube conspiracy video, or propaganda as news, then maybe political discussion is not for you. I must have missed the posts where libs have gotten insulted when asked for a link... if I'm asked, I'm more than happy to provide one. A little huffiness is expected when someone asks for a link regarding something that is well-known news just to be a thorn... and that huffiness comes from both sides when a ridiculous link request is encountered.

Anyhow, if there is a problem with anyone pointing out that a conservative "news" outlet is less than reliable, instead of getting mad at the person pointing it out, why not demand better? I never understood that.
Like I said, not trying to start an argument. It does seem - backwards typist
[ In Reply To ..]
like you may be one of those who don't agree with a conservative link and only believe in liberal links. Just sayin' because of your "picking on poor sweet cons sob story" statement. If not, sorry to assume. And you are assuming that I'm getting bent out of shape...now you're assuming something of me. I've been a 'member' of this board since 1995 and don't intend to leave. But that's not my point.

There have been those on this board that have been "demanding better" but then others were demanding that you can't demand anything from anyone on this board.

It's really a no-win situation, and it seems like you just can't have a simple discussion with some posters.

Have a nice evening.
First, the only ones who brought up liberals/cons were - the "snippy" spotter and you.
[ In Reply To ..]
I simply replied to you. No poster mentioned their political view in the earlier posts, unless "Such as? Please elaborate and provide link" or "....and the silence is deafening, - as usual" has some hidden liberal message that I'm not detecting (BTW... I don't consider either one of those posts "snippy"). I didn't mention anything about it in my 2 previous posts either (the neener post and the TOS post). So where did the lib vs. cons debate (usual sob story) come into play here??? And, for what it's worth, I don't have a problem with any link as long as the information provided is fact.

Second, when I said that maybe political discussion is not for you, I didn't mean you personally... it was a general you. Actually that entire post was a general "you," so if it came across differently, I apologize for that.

Lastly, when I suggested demanding better, I wasn't talking about demanding better from other posters on this board (like that would get any of us anywhere). I meant folks demanding better reporting from their news outlets. That's the part that I don't get. When something is debunked, proven wrong, footage shown to be edited, etc., why is the outrage directed toward the person stating the truth instead of the source that dished out the garbage?

I apologize too. Sometimes, a lot more is - backwards typist
[ In Reply To ..]
read into a post than is actually there. I'm guilty of that at times - depends on my mood. LOL

"Silence is deafening" is usually used when someone wants a political argument.
A lot of times, people aren't on the board to be able to reply to a post that wants immediate results. For example, I can only sit for a couple hours, then I have to elevate. If the swelling goes down, I can get back on the board. If not, it's the next day or whenever things straighten out. So, if it's my post someone wants an answer to, they just have to have patience.

As for lib v. con, it happens all the time on sensitive issues that mean a lot to everyone and the links are usually debunked by the other side, no matter if it's a good source or not.

As for your last paragraph on debunked or proven wrong news, the outrage is directed to the person and not the source..I guess it's because some posters feel that the person did just to inflame others. I hope this is coming across the right way. I just can't seem to find the right words to explain it. ;-(
An example just posted today - backwards typist

The McCain post comes to mind - bootstraps

Where someone, after repeated mainstream links wouldn't believe and denied McCain missed a meeting to give interviews in order to insult and degrade Susan Rice.

I'm still waiting for GM to file bankruptcy that was professed several months ago, offering an obscure right-wing link...

Your last paragraph is perfect.
Or how about how bent some got when pointed out - that the "Duffel Blog"
[ In Reply To ..]
was satire. And once again it was the poor con victim being attacked by evil libs. It's old already.

http://general.mtstars.com/326085.html

http://general.mtstars.com/326309.html
And they usually aren't credible - bootstraps
[ In Reply To ..]
I never demand a liberal link, only **request** mainstream. Otherwise it's malarkey.

Shoot, anyone could post any lie, so without documentation, why believe it? I did my share of science projects, by golly!

That's not to say that some links offer an opinion based on truth, which oftentimes are quite enlightening. But to just post a blog that is intended to be satire and OP somehow takes it for the truth is just unacceptable.
When I want to post something that I know will get argument - grits
[ In Reply To ..]
I go ahead and find a link from the most central news organization I can find - I wouldn't post something here that I got from MSNBC, of course, because I know that they aren't considered credible to our board conservatives.

This way, I head off the whole link request/credible source thing as much as I can. If I can't find a link that would pass my own muster, I don't post the topic. Simple.

It has the added benefit of making me research my opinions thoroughly before declaring them in the public square, which A) makes me think, B) makes me better-informed and C) is just good policy for anyone.
No surprises here, - nm
[ In Reply To ..]

LOL. Shouldn't you wait for it to economically devastate - BEFORE trumpeting that "fact"?

[ In Reply To ..]
I mean, only tiny parts are even in effect yet. Give it time to destroy us, or whatever.

As for Pelosi, what she meant was that the many people who were afraid of change but don't read would have to find out by living with it what it would mean to them.

Both backers and opponents of Obamacare expect that people will not be willing to give it up once they have it. And that will be in spite of what will be its imperfections, this being the real world after all.

You sound like a republican, and that's why - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
facts need to be checked and double-checked since the Republicans can't be trusted. They represent the top 2% of us. In fact, "we" are the enemy to them, the ones they don't "care about."

So, yes, I'd like to know your source where you got your information.
