1 May, 2015 ~ Independent Socialist Bernie Sanders officially ‘self-identifies’ as a Democrat and files with DNC to challenge Hillary Clinton for the Presidency. Great unexpected success ensues. By early June, 2016, Sanders has accrued amazingly strong Dem support and repeatedly declares disinterest in dropping out. Six days later: 8 June, 2016 ~ Sanders and Clintons meet in DC. Four days later: 12 June ~ Sanders steps down and “endorses” Hillary Clinton 25 July ~ Sanders speaks at Dem convention supporting Hillary 26 July ~ Headlines: "Bernie Sanders To Return To Senate As An Independent" 27 July ~ Sanders stands with Vermont as they cast all their electoral votes for Sanders Two months to the day from meeting with the Clintons: 8 August ~ Independent Socialist Bernie “My Job Is Done” Sanders caps his aborted run with the purchase of a $600,000 ‘seasonal getaway’ on the banks of VT’s Lake Champlain. Summarizing, it only took the inequality expert two months after a DC meeting with the Clintons to relinquish his voting bloc’s strong leverage, abdicate his new-found Home as a Democrat, and cap his experiences with the purchase of a third home ~ the others being a row house on posh Capitol Hill in Washington, and their “real” home in nearby Burlinton’s New North End. Acknowledging everything Bernie so unswervingly champions, the general store down the road from his new digs serves a $6.99 turkey sandwich called “Feel the Bun” in his honor. It features a “HUGE” roll, because Bernie says the word “huge” a lot (I thought that was Trump!) “It’s not fair that the Billionaire Class controls 99 percent of the bread,” reads the sandwich’s description on the menu. “Here’s a sandwich for The Rest of Us … to keep us nourished until everything cool is free!” A golden crown of achievement for a man who spent his career railing against rich people and their fancy things. “We couldn’t ask for a nicer person to move in,” said Eileen Mitchell, a member of the town selectboard. ;
