OMG. Someone burned up ALL of Harris County's (Greater Houston)

Posted: Aug 29, 2010

Hard to know just what to think.  The governor's race was the first thing that popped into my mind.  It is no secret that Bill White can count on a huge turn-out in his favor from here for that bid against Gov Slick Texas Big Hair (He Shoots Coyotes, Doesn't He?) Perry.  Even though King Richard is still ahead in that poll in a redder than red state, the numbers have been closing in on him, even though the campaign season has not really started just yet, one reason being that Gov Too-Chicken-To-Debate continues to try every trick in the book to avoid a one-on-one with White on the issues.  Still, it makes me wonder if one of a handful of Perry's supporters snapped in the heat of these dwindling dog days of summer.

We have until Oct 17 (early voting starts) to come up with a solution to this $40 million-dollar disaster in the making.  One thing is for sure.  This was NO accident.

Click wheel eSlate machines used in HC made by Hart InterCivic - not Diebold

[ In Reply To ..]
Along with those user-friendly scandal-free machines went the judge's booth controller boxes and equipment used to move it all around 1778 square miles of geography. Despite what I know will be tireless best efforts by our local election officials, best case scenario will see a shortage of machines available for early voting and election day, long lines in Houston heat and humidity, and huge expenses generated in the short and long term in preparation for 2012.

As a dark horse candidate essentially from out of nowhere, Bill White captured 63 percent of the vote his first term, a whopping 91 percent the second, and 87 percent the third. Harris County, normally red, had a 2009 population of 4,070,989, but the urban component of that number was 3,822,509. Do the math. White is likely to take even higher percentages from the area in the governor's race, since he is a fairly moderate business-oriented democrat with big brains and a proven track record of fiscal know-how. Gov Haircut's relentless efforts to connect White with Obama have fallen on deaf ears for the most part while his own embedded connections to W are inescapable (Lt Gov who ascended by coronation to Gov in 2000 when W went to DC). This would help explain why Gov Slick is running far and wide to avoid debating him.

Despite Governor Big Hair's Secede Much? local color and popularity (10 years of agonizing service and still counting), the chicken-little debate tactics are beginning to take a notable toll on his usual wide poll margins, and the campaign ads have not even seen the light of day as yet. Abysmal voter turn-out in Harris County would be just the ticket for his smoothing sailing into a full third (and mercifully, last) term, while a defeat, hairline or otherwise, sure might put a damper on Perry's (tpot) presidential (gag me) aspirations.

Can you say voter suppression?

Perry continues refusal to debate White - HC OKs $13.6 million for voting machines

2325 new machines = not quite 25 percent of the original 10,000. Wonder which districts will be shuffled around to new and unfamiliar locations? Still, I bet chicken little broke down and cried when he heard about the new machines.

Cory Booker, Sam Harris, Eva Langoria, And Jackie Kucinich On Bill MaherFeb 03, 2013
Your thoughts on this -- watch the whole thing before making your comments. Watch it more than once to understand the whole argument. Don't just watch pieces. I felt it was a balanced discussion on his show.  It seems like Cory Booker knows and understands what most gun owners know and the word is CRIMINALS. Sam Harris seems to be on the line, for but also against gun control. I think Sam Harris has no idea of how many guns are in this country. He said 300 million but there are ...

Houston's New MayorDec 13, 2009
Houston has become the largest US city to elect an openly gay mayor.  The new mayor did not make a secret or an issue of her orientation, but people working in her opponent's campaign did and I think it backfired on them.  It would be nice to think that the age of smear campaigns is over, but I won't be that naive. It is heartening to see such fail, though. Yay Houston for electing on the issues and not on scare tactics. NJ ...

Stabbings In Houston (sm)Apr 09, 2013
There were stabbings at Lone Star College in Houston today.  Some lunatic went around with a weapon slashing randomly.  It's been on the local news for hours now.  Last I heard they are still saying they don't know what the weapon was, at one point said it could have been a knife, a box cutter, or a pencil.  A pencil?  Does that mean Obama will be banning all #2's or just fine points?  Kids also said the stabber looked "psycho."  There's the ...

Just curious the best places to search other than nolo.com, google, etc. I am trying to learn as much as possible about "opposing counsel," right down to politics, , you name it. I've found a couple things so far.  Personally, this lawyer has been a rotten egg from day one re my divorce. Thanks a million (which we'll never get paid)! PS:  Another thing I've notices is not getting replies to my posts (yes, the box is checked).  The only one was that con artist fo ...

Two Children Burned After Dakota Access Protestors Set 20 Fires DuringFeb 23, 2017
Two children were burned, one of them severely, at the Dakota Access camp evacuation Wednesday after remaining activists set fire to about 20 shelters and a vehicle in what was described as a departure ceremony. North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum said a 17-year-old girl was airlifted to a hospital in Minneapolis, and that a seven-year-old boy was also hurt as most of the activists left the camp in compliance with a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers eviction order. Most of those remaining at the camp left ...

From The Pima County Sheriff.Jan 09, 2011
Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik suggested Saturday, in the aftermath of the shooting, that those exercising their rights to free speech would do well to consider the effects of their words. "When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous," said Sheriff Dupnik. "And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become ...

*MUST* The Sheriff Who Sold His CountyMay 24, 2011
This is lengthy but a must-read for all Americans.  It will be a real EYE OPENER for most of you.  What has happened in this particular county (no, I do not live there) is happening with alarming frequency all across the country. How to find out if your local government has the fiscal woes that it claims to have.  WHAT DOES IT DO with the money it ...

Sad News For My County-another 130 Employees Laid OffNov 06, 2012
The last garment factory that survived for 112 years is now gone. They just couldn't hang on any longer. They did last 4 years longer than the 90 year old company, but imports killed all of those factories. It was nothing to have 3-4 garment factories in each town. Some of the workers were employed there for 40 years and that's all they knew. The only opportunities they have now is Wal-Mart or picking orders in big box warehouse jobs 20 miles away or whatever is left in the closest ci ...

Democrats Burned By Polling Blind Spot. The Party Didn't Just LoseMar 29, 2017
missed them altogether. As they investigate the forces behind the party’s stunning losses in November, Democrats are coming to a troubling conclusion. The party didn’t just lose among rural white voters on Election Day, it may have failed to capture them in its pre-election polling as well. Many pollsters and strategists believe that rural white voters, particularly those without college degrees, eluded the party’s polling altogether — and their absence from poll results may have been ...

Walker’s Gone, But We Are Still Stuck With His Bills Jan 14 2011 The seasons are being reflected in Milwaukee County government. Republican Gun Raffle In Giffords' County Draws CriticismSep 05, 2011

Putnam County NY Official Refuses To Hand Over Names To Journal NewsJan 04, 2013
He was interviewed by Megan Kelley (sp) yesterday. Good for this official! I hope he stands by his convictions. Good points were brought up. There is NO reason that registered gun owners names and addresses should be released and NO reason non-gun owners would be pointed out at the same time just because they live near someone who has a registered gun.  Assemblyman Steve Katz backed Sant, saying the newspaper had exposed the names of those who own guns for no good reason, and said the deci ...
