From the Pima County Sheriff.

Posted: Jan 9, 2011

Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik suggested Saturday, in the aftermath of the shooting, that those exercising their rights to free speech would do well to consider the effects of their words.

"When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous," said Sheriff Dupnik. "And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become sort of the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry."

One thing this brings to mind...... - the 5 times law enforcement

had to remove him from Pima County College and finally had to hand carry (law enforcement) a letter to him at his home stating he could not come back to college until it was proven he was not a danger to himself or others....

It seems to me that instead of pointing fingers law enforcement should have perhaps sought an order to have him committed against his will? And maybe start looking at trying to identify these powder kegs before they explode? Rather than targeting others and blaming them for what a deranged nutjob did...especially one who should have been on their radar?

When are we going to stop blaming each other and blame those responsible, and try to identify these issues BEFORE they become a problem? RATIONAL people cannot be motivated to shoot anyone, no matter what someone "says" or what a picture shows.

Exactly... and every time a mentally ill, deranged - person kill, we gonna blame others? ..

there were tons of signs this guy was going to do something, but now that he has, lets blame the TEA party or something? THIS is insane! ...and yeah, an irrational person could have a million excuses that someone influenced them to commit a crime. Get real!

Sadly, these deranged people have the rights they are complaining about... - lka

You know what I mean... he is blaming the government for everything (his paranoia and his "stuff," obviously because he is not playing with a full deck) and it is NOT easy for his school or even his parents to get him committed. It just is NOT... Anyhow, who knows about domestic abuse, how many woman get restraining orders against their abuser and out and out threats, and they are not protected either... until it's too late, like if they are murdered.

I did not hear that other poster blame the tea party, so I don't know why you say that??? I am with the sheriff on this one. Unfortunately, there are "some" in the tea party and both parties that try to divide this country, not unite, and therin lies the problem with inflaming the "nuts" to do what they do. There are not enough social workers or prisons or treatment facilities to house the mentally ill for one thing, and oh yes, they have their rights, their 1st Amendment rights. What do you want... socialism!!!

That sheriff was 100% on the money with his statement about AZ. - Too close for comfort.nm

If he had confined it to Arizona, perhaps....but - he did not.

and, law enforcement, wherever they are, should remain impartial. People get all up in arms about law enforcement targeting and profiling, and this man stood before cameras before he had any idea what if anything motivated the shooting, using his position of authority to assert that a certain political group was responsible.

That is wrong no matter how you cut it, it sends a bad message, and it made me suddenly glad I was not a Republican living in his county.

He should not have used this tragedy as a bully pulpit for political speech. Period.

*MUST* The Sheriff Who Sold His CountyMay 24, 2011
This is lengthy but a must-read for all Americans.  It will be a real EYE OPENER for most of you.  What has happened in this particular county (no, I do not live there) is happening with alarming frequency all across the country. Why your property taxes, sewer fees, etc. are continually going up. Is your County really a government -- or is it a Corporation? How to find out if your local government has the fiscal woes that it claims to have.  WHAT DOES IT DO with the money it ...

AZ Judge: It's Official. Sheriff Arpaio Is A Racist.May 24, 2013
A federal judge ruled Friday that the office of America’s self-proclaimed toughest sheriff systematically singled out Latinos in its trademark immigration patrols, marking the first finding by a court that the agency racially profiles people. The 142-page decision by U.S. District Judge Murray Snow in Phoenix backs up allegations that Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s critics have made for years that his officers violate the constitutional rights of Latinos in relying on race i ...

Sheriff cites that Mandela was not an American.  Half-staff is also designated as a respect to the memory of someone who made a profound mark and impact on this world.  It's obvioius the sheriff didn't agree with Mandela's ideals or think they were a good thing because being an American is not a requirement for deserving half-staff respect.   ...

Mexican Drug Cartel Allegedly Puts A Price On Arizona Sheriff's HeadAug 04, 2010
He's been at the center of the discussions and controversies surrounding illegal immigration enforcement in Arizona for quite a while. On the day parts of Arizona's immigration law, SB 1070, went into effect, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is in the news for another reason: there's a price on his head - allegedly offered by a Mexican drug cartel. The audio message in Spanish is a bit garbled, but the text is clear. It's offering $1 million for Sheriff Joe Arpai ...

Sad News For My County-another 130 Employees Laid OffNov 06, 2012
The last garment factory that survived for 112 years is now gone. They just couldn't hang on any longer. They did last 4 years longer than the 90 year old company, but imports killed all of those factories. It was nothing to have 3-4 garment factories in each town. Some of the workers were employed there for 40 years and that's all they knew. The only opportunities they have now is Wal-Mart or picking orders in big box warehouse jobs 20 miles away or whatever is left in the closest ci ...

OMG. Someone Burned Up ALL Of Harris County's (Greater Houston)Aug 29, 2010

Walkers Illegal Privitization Of County Security Services Mar 05, 2011
Walker’s Gone, But We Are Still Stuck With His Bills Jan 14 2011 The seasons are being reflected in Milwaukee County government. Republican Gun Raffle In Giffords' County Draws CriticismSep 05, 2011
First Posted: 9/1/11 06:14 PM ET Updated: 9/1/11 11:02 PM ET By Brad Poole TUCSON, Ariz (Reuters) - The Republican Party in Representative Gabrielle Giffords' home county is raising eyebrows by raffling off a Glock handgun -- the same brand handgun with which Giffords, a Democrat, was shot through the head in January. So Glad The Stimulus Is Working. New Unemployed Numbers For My County - 11%Jul 01, 2010

They stated we have 8,300 people out of work. That doesn't sound like much, but I think our county only has a population of 30,000, and most of them have had to leave the county to find jobs.  ...

Putnam County NY Official Refuses To Hand Over Names To Journal NewsJan 04, 2013
He was interviewed by Megan Kelley (sp) yesterday. Good for this official! I hope he stands by his convictions. Good points were brought up. There is NO reason that registered gun owners names and addresses should be released and NO reason non-gun owners would be pointed out at the same time just because they live near someone who has a registered gun.  Assemblyman Steve Katz backed Sant, saying the newspaper had exposed the names of those who own guns for no good reason, and said the deci ...
