Anyone know what county inmates pay for while

If they get jobs inside the jail, do they have to pay for their shoes, etc?  tia

Most county jail stays (at least in Michigan where I live) are for less than a year. Any longer than that, you go to state prison.

In the county jail in my county they give you flip-flops and a jail uniform that I think is like surgical scrubs. There really isn't much of an opportunity to get a job and there is an inmate store where you can buy ramen, soap, toothpaste and stuff like that but it's at very inflated prices and most inmates have their families put money into a store account so they can buy those things. Otherwise, if your family doesn't contribute, you pretty much go without while you're there.

Mercer County PA. I've been trying to find a web site - that gives that info but nothing so far

Are you considering giving up being an MT - to be an inmate for free

healthcare and continuing-education opportunities? (ha)

Did you see where some guy actually did that? - sm

Unfortunately for the poor guy, by design he only robbed them for $10 or some ridiculous amount because robbery was not really his thing. Because of that, it apparently doesn't count as a bank robbery felony style and instead I believe he is looking at fines that he doesn't have the money to pay anyway and probation- which many states charge a monthly fee for now. Best laid plans....

Obama Grants Clemency To 231 Inmates In One Day,Dec 19, 2016
President Obama on Monday granted clemency to 231 federal inmates, the most in a single day by any president in U.S. history. Obama commuted the prison sentences of 153 people and pardoned 78 others, a sign he is ramping up his use of clemency power during his final weeks in office. The president has frequently doled out commutations as his final months in office wane. But he has seldom handed out pardons, which formally forgive prisoners for their crimes and restore certain rights. Comm ...

From The Pima County Sheriff.Jan 09, 2011
Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik suggested Saturday, in the aftermath of the shooting, that those exercising their rights to free speech would do well to consider the effects of their words. "When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous," said Sheriff Dupnik. "And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become ...

*MUST* The Sheriff Who Sold His CountyMay 24, 2011
This is lengthy but a must-read for all Americans.  It will be a real EYE OPENER for most of you.  What has happened in this particular county (no, I do not live there) is happening with alarming frequency all across the country. Why your property taxes, sewer fees, etc. are continually going up. Is your County really a government -- or is it a Corporation? How to find out if your local government has the fiscal woes that it claims to have.  WHAT DOES IT DO with the money it ...

Sad News For My County-another 130 Employees Laid OffNov 06, 2012
The last garment factory that survived for 112 years is now gone. They just couldn't hang on any longer. They did last 4 years longer than the 90 year old company, but imports killed all of those factories. It was nothing to have 3-4 garment factories in each town. Some of the workers were employed there for 40 years and that's all they knew. The only opportunities they have now is Wal-Mart or picking orders in big box warehouse jobs 20 miles away or whatever is left in the closest ci ...

OMG. Someone Burned Up ALL Of Harris County's (Greater Houston)Aug 29, 2010
Hard to know just what to think.  The governor's race was the first thing that popped into my mind.  It is no secret that Bill White can count on a huge turn-out in his favor from here for that bid against Gov Slick Texas Big Hair (He Shoots Coyotes, Doesn't He?) Perry.  Even though King Richard is still ahead in that poll in a redder than red state, the numbers have been closing in on him, even though the campaign season has not really started j ...

Walkers Illegal Privitization Of County Security Services Mar 05, 2011
Walker’s Gone, But We Are Still Stuck With His Bills Jan 14 2011 The seasons are being reflected in Milwaukee County government. Last month, most of us were celebrating Christmas.  There were parties, family gatherings over sumptuous meals, and, of course, presents.  Good times were had and there was a certain feel of warmth and joy that only comes with Christmas. But then in January,  people return to the daily grind of work and school, errands, the occasional need to s ...

Republican Gun Raffle In Giffords' County Draws CriticismSep 05, 2011
First Posted: 9/1/11 06:14 PM ET Updated: 9/1/11 11:02 PM ET By Brad Poole TUCSON, Ariz (Reuters) - The Republican Party in Representative Gabrielle Giffords' home county is raising eyebrows by raffling off a Glock handgun -- the same brand handgun with which Giffords, a Democrat, was shot through the head in January. "When I first heard about this last week in an email, I said 'That's a joke, a sick joke. Nobody could be doing that,'" said Pima County Democratic Part ...

So Glad The Stimulus Is Working. New Unemployed Numbers For My County - 11%Jul 01, 2010
It was only 9.7% in May 2009, and in December, it was 10.9. This doesn't include those who ran out of benefits. I just can't imagine how many are really out of work here. They stated we have 8,300 people out of work. That doesn't sound like much, but I think our county only has a population of 30,000, and most of them have had to leave the county to find jobs.  ...

Feds Force Mississippi County To Desegregate — After 40 YearsApr 15, 2010
By Daniel TencerWednesday, April 14th, 2010 -- 12:04 pm Forty years after a Mississippi school district was ordered to desegregate its schools, a federal judge has finally enforced the order. A US District Court judge in southern Mississippi has ordered the Walthall County school board to stop segregating students by allowing white students to transfer to a predominantly-white school outside of their residence area and by "clustering" white students into separate classrooms in predominantly bl ...

Fraudulent Clinton Votes Discovered In Franklin County, Ohio.Oct 06, 2016

Putnam County NY Official Refuses To Hand Over Names To Journal NewsJan 04, 2013
He was interviewed by Megan Kelley (sp) yesterday. Good for this official! I hope he stands by his convictions. Good points were brought up. There is NO reason that registered gun owners names and addresses should be released and NO reason non-gun owners would be pointed out at the same time just because they live near someone who has a registered gun.  Assemblyman Steve Katz backed Sant, saying the newspaper had exposed the names of those who own guns for no good reason, and said the deci ...
