Did you read the article or just the headline? - Whats the big fat deal?

The State department give liquor gifts to vendors of their 190 or so embassies and consulates with an unknown number of diplomats, employees and outside "vendors." That comes out to approximately $1,578 for each facility. All things considered, this seems to be a fairly inexpensive choice as far as gifts go.

What in the world does giving gifts have to do with hypocrisy?

Resurrecting the ignorant outrage over Obama's cultural sensitivity again? When engaging in diplomacy, it is usually a pretty good idea to show respect.

A bow is like a handshake. It's a cultural practice between ordinary citizens, including world leaders. Get over it. Not everybody feels the compulsion to pontificate, lay false claims to divine superiority or whup up every time they turn around, and in the setting of laying the groundwork for nuclear arms negotiations and cooperation, those cowboy gestures could turn out to be a pretty stupid idea, dontcha think?

W would have probably started out by telling them "you're either for us or against us" and "bring it on." Thanks, but no thanks. I think Obama knows exactly what he is doing in this regard.

How can you not see that? It may be a smaller amount than other spending but spending is spending. The small amounts of spending add up to a big amount. Here we are in a recession with a large amount of people unemployed and others struggling from paycheck to paycheck and our federal govt is taking our taxpayer money to use as alcoholic gifts and that doesn't p!ss you off? Wow...amazing.

Sen. McCain has a lifetime rating of 88, has never requested nor received a single earmark, and has pledged to veto any spending bill that contains any earmarks.
