Meet the climate change bigoted professors who banned

Posted: Sep 1, 2016

We will not, at any time, debate the science of climate change’ Three professors co-teaching an online course called “Medical Humanities in the Digital Age” at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs recently told their students via email that man-made climate change is not open for debate, and those who think otherwise have no place in their course. “The point of departure for this course is based on the scientific premise that human induced climate change is valid and occurring. We will not, at any time, debate the science of climate change, nor will the ‘other side’ of the climate change debate be taught or discussed in this course,” states the email, a copy of which was provided to The College Fix by a student in the course. Signed by the course’s professors Rebecca Laroche, Wendy Haggren and Eileen Skahill, it was sent after several students expressed concern for their success in the course after watching the first online lecture about the impacts of climate change. “Opening up a debate that 98% of climate scientists unequivocally agree to be a non-debate would detract from the central concerns of environment and health addressed in this course,” the professors’ email continued. “… If you believe this premise to be an issue for you, we respectfully ask that you do not take this course, as there are options within the Humanities program for face to face this semester and online next.” The professors also note this ban on debate extends to discussion among students in the online forums. Moreover, students who choose to use outside sources for research during their time in the course may select only those that have been peer-reviewed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the email states. Professors Laroche, Skahill, and Haggren did not respond to email inquiries from The College Fix seeking further comment on their email or their stance on debate in their online class. The University Communications Director Tom Hutton told The College Fix via email that “Humanities 3990 is a special topics course with multiple choices for students to take when fulfilling requirements.” “By clearly stating the class focus,” he continued, “the faculty are allowing students to choose if they wish to enroll in the course or seek an alternative. Additionally, the faculty who are leading the course have offered to discuss it with students who have concerns or differing opinions.” In addition to teaching man-made climate change, the course also delves into the “health effects of fracking,” according to its syllabus. The reading assignments in the fracking section focus on only its negative impacts and fail to present the other side of the issue, namely the possible benefits of fracking. Assigned readings includes: “4 States Struggling to Maintain Radioactive Fracking Waste,” “EPA Study on Fracking Ignored Contamination Studies,” and “Frack Free Colorado: ‘Colorado’s Affected People.’” An activity assigned within that section instructs students to take a test to measure their own carbon footprint. The purpose, reads the syllabus, “is not to create guilt or shame, though those emotions are entirely common.” ;

easily. He took a can of soda and divided it into two clear glasses. He put both on the table, one under a desk lamp, the other just in the open. He presented his half hour lecture then asked for a volunteer to try the soda. The one under the desk lamp was flat the other was fine. Then he made his point.

Earth temps have been going up and down forever. We are currently just off the bottom of the cycle (on our way up) and as temps naturally rise, ocean temps do also. His demo showed that water can't hold carbon when it warms so co2 emissions will go up, regardless of what we do to control it.

It's a natural cycle. Ice core samples show warming trends - as cyclical, almost matching the pattern

of an EKG heartbeat. CO2 is as necessary as oxygen. High CO2 levels increase vegetative growth, which increases oxygen levels. I can agree that large manufacturing corporations, including Monsanto, have caused many pollution disasters and steadily dumping filth into the environment. They should be held accountable...but no matter how many speeches Obama gives, how much money is spent, what we do or have done, nothing can or ever will stop the earth 's natural cycle.

Instead of whining about climate change, we should find out what's in those chemicals and how is Obama saving the world from greenhouse gasses while he flies Air Force One constantly? Reality can be a tough pill to swallow.

The global warming consensus that isn't. At least, we - have a peer-reviewed paper that

[ In Reply To ..]
accurately surveys how much support there is for anthropogenic global warming among relevant scientists. And the news isn’t good for Al Gore, nor for Barack Obama, who sees climate change as our number one national security threat.

The widely cited figure of 97% of scientists supporting man made global warming theory has always been a fraud:

…a Canada-based group calling itself Friends of Science has just completed a review of the four main studies used to document the alleged consensus and found that only 1 - 3% of respondents "explicitly stated agreement with the IPCC declarations on global warming," and that there was "no agreement with a catastrophic view."

"These 'consensus' surveys appear to be used as a 'social proof,'" says Ken Gregory, research director of Friends of Science. "Just because a science paper includes the words 'global climate change' this does not define the cause, impact or possible mitigation. The 97% claim is contrived in all cases."

The Oreskes (2004) study claimed 75% consensus and a "remarkable lack of disagreement" by the other 25% of the abstracts she reviewed. Peiser (2005) re-ran her survey and found major discrepancies. Only 1.2% or 13 scientists out of 1,117 agreed with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) view that human activity is the main cause of global warming since 1950.

Investor’s Business Daily reveals the devastating new research:

….a peer-reviewed paper showing that only 36% of 1,077 geoscientists and engineers surveyed believe in the man-made global warming crisis as defined by the United Nations' Kyoto model.

According to the paper, the Kyoto position expresses "the strong belief that climate change is happening, that it is not a normal cycle of nature, and humans are the main or central cause."

Thirty-six percent is not insignificant. But it certainly is a long way from the oft-cited 97% "consensus" among scientists that man is causing temperatures to change.

Researchers behind "Science or Science Fiction? Professionals' Discursive Construction of Climate Change," which appeared in Organization Studies, also found "the proportion of papers" collected from a science database "that explicitly endorsed anthropogenic climate change has fallen from 75%" between 1993 and 2003 "to 45% from 2004 to 2008."

The Heartland Institute's James Taylor reminds us in Forbes that "survey results show geoscientists (also known as earth scientists) and engineers hold similar views as meteorologists. Two recent surveys of meteorologists revealed similar skepticism of alarmist global warming claims."

A 36% consensus definitely is less impressive than 97%. In fact, it is a minority view.

This is just politicized science. I've actually heard people - wanting to jail "climate deniers"

I suppose some will think this belongs on the Faith Board, but it is also a political issue.  I am so sick of hearing about climate change and all that we can do as human beings about it.  These politicians should read their Bible; that is if they even own one, and they would soon discover that man did not create this world and man is not going to change what God made.  There has been climate change since the beginning of time and just because we, who are now living in these times ...
