Interesting observations

Posted: Jan 20, 2013

I have friends and family in Canada.  I read this to them and they said, er, yup, that sums it up of what we see.  Yes, it's an email, yes it was really written by a Canadian, no I con't care if it's a "chain email" because it doesn't mean its not true, yes every statement is true, no I don't know the name of the original writer is, yes, I've check snopesm, yes have fun reading, no don't have fun reading I don't care, no I will not "provide a source please", and no I don't care whether or not you like it.  It's an observation piece is all it is.

TOP-12 "ONLY IN AMERICA " OBSERVATIONS -- BY A CANADIAN*

1) Only in America could the rich people - who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don't pay any income taxes at all.

2) Only in America could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General, and roughly 18% of the federal workforce is black while only 12% of the population is black.

3) Only in America could they have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner, the head of the Treasury Department and Charles Rangel who once ran the Ways and Means Committee, BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.

4) Only in America can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.

5) Only in America would they make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege while we discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just 'magically' become American citizens.

 6) Only in America could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be thought of as "extremists."

7) Only in America could you need to present a driver's license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.

8) Only in America could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company ( Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).

9) Only in America could the government collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a Trillion dollars more than it has per year - for total spending of $7-Million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn't have nearly enough money.

10) Only in America could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000.00-a-plate campaign fund-raising event.

11) Only in America can a man with no background, no qualifications and no experience ... and a complete failure at his job ... be reelected.

12) Only in America could a President complain about Private Sector CEOs using corporate jets and take vacations on AF1 to Hawaii for $20M.

They missed one--Our health care system - my observation

[ In Reply To ..]
I guess your piece is more satirical, spin, and inflammatory than fact.

If not, then why omit our health care system from the list when theirs is far more superior than ours? That would be a true and correct observation.

Because theirs is not far superior - to ours

That's why so many of them come to the US when they need medical attention.

Utter dog-whistle nonsense. - pfft

The greatest failing of the internet is that anyone can post anything they want, no matter how poorly informed and unintelligent it is. That won't stop some from nodding because it agrees with what they already believe, regardless of its veracity.

Do they have Fox News in Canada? - Pinky

If not, how do they have so many of their talking points right on the mark?

And what's with the * next to the Canadian in the title?

And I'm asking you so I don't offend anyone.

I did a search - my observation

Looks like a piece that's been making it's rounds on the right-wing blogs and message boards. Can't find out who the author is, but there is an EXCELLENT answer to each, just perfectly stated, on The Knowledge Movement's Facebook. I don't know if I'm allowed to cut and paste or link to Fb, but if you Google the title and find the FB link with the title it's there.

specious conclusions are not interesting observations - nm

Observations - Tired Of It AllMar 25, 2010
The hatred on this board toward anyone who is a conservative has been absolutely rampant and so unnecessary.  It has become so bad here, the only way to describe it is a disease.  People have become totally obsessed with hating conservatives.  There are accusations of violence, yet no proof.  No videos, no voice clips, not even an iphone video or picture…nothing.  All you have is someone telling you things were said and done by conservatives, yet nobody can collab ...

Just A Couple Of Observations AboutAug 28, 2012
Rick Santorum's speaking style reminds me of a preacher/minister.  That's not a good/bad judgment...just my impression.  His speech was the most passionate of the night.   Ann Romney's speech was likable enough.  She seems like a sweet lady who, of course, loves her husband.     Chris Christie: Angry, scoldy, mean, yelling.   Aside from Ann Romney speaking lovingly about Mitt Romney, I didn't feel like there was enough reference to MITT R ...

A Few Observations About The Tax Issue.Oct 03, 2016
The first thing to note is that any business, and especially those that do business in multiple states and even in other countries, operates in landscape of tax obligations, of which the federal income tax is only one element and might even be much less significant than others. Second, "tax" refers to every and any monetary obligation that any and all taxing authorities levy on a business and sometimes certain particular operations that it conducts.  For instance, fees for building permits ...

"Disconnections: Observations From Yesterday's Gun Rallies"Apr 20, 2010
Paul Helmke President, Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence Posted: April 20, 2010 12:25 PM I spent three hours yesterday attending the "Second Amendment March" on the Mall in D.C. and the "Restore the Constitution" rally at Gravelly Point National Park in Northern Virginia, across the Potomac River from DC. It's hard for me to make sense of people who want to bring loaded guns with them all the time, wherever they go. The main impression I have of the two events is one of d ...

On October 14, Lord Christopher Monckton, a noted climate change skeptic, gave a presentation at Bethel University in St. Paul, MN. In this 4 minute excerpt from his speech, he issues a dire warning to all Americans regarding the United Nations Climate Change Treaty, scheduled to be signed in Copenhagen in December 2009. A draft of the petition can be read at the link below Lord Monckton served as a policy adviser to Margaret Thatcher. He has repeatedly challenged Al Gore to a debate to which G ...

Could this be true?  Working to fix the ACA would be the best thing.  Of course the republicans would only do it to save their butts come election time but many of us have always said the ACA is good, it just needs some fixing.   I was reading in another article that some republican states again refused the Medicaid expansion.  So sorry for those of you who live in those states.  That is what is hurting you so bad. ...
