Could this be true?  Working to fix the ACA would be the best thing.  Of course the republicans would only do it to save their butts come election time but many of us have always said the ACA is good, it just needs some fixing.

I was reading in another article that some republican states again refused the Medicaid expansion.  So sorry for those of you who live in those states.  That is what is hurting you so bad.

I think one thing they could look into - doing would be

[ In Reply To ..]
maybe to offer some plans that are just major medical. I think the mandate requiring people to have insurance should stay but offering them a cheaper plan with only major medical might be a good option.

I know many of you don't like being made to have insurance but you don't understand why it is like that. Something like this could help.

My only concern with that would be--sm - anon

If you have a major medical plan like of old that was say a catastrophic plan, and then you life changes and you are diagnosed with a chronic condition or cancer, or heart disease or whatever that then requires you to have a more comprehensive plan, what happens? You have enjoyed cheaper plans for a while but now you need more coverage, how much do you pay now?

When we decided against having any more children and took permanent steps in that regard, I would have seriously considered a catastrophic plan. My thought was that our needs were not great, we were healthy, we do not go to the doctor for a throat swab with every sore throat, etc. It was a good thing we did not make that choice though because at 9 my daughter was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic.

Personally, I think a single payer system would be the best way of assuring equity in coverage but am not confident that would happen. I do hope that attention and action happens on the prescription medication front and not only for generics. Insulin is in a class of drugs that does not allow generics and thus the cost is high and continually rising.

I also think single payer would be - the best

for all of us but as you say that won't fly. You do bring up some valid points about the other option I mentioned. I just think they ALL need to talk and not make this a political issue.

Do you really think it's great to expand Medicaid? - Truthhurts

Especially since everyone pays into it and it's still going broke because of Obamacare. Taxes will have to be raised to cover those extra bodies sooner or later.

I am not at all in favor of Medicaid expansion and never was. It's tough enough trying to survive with all the takxes we pay now and then being forced to buy health insurance with lots of coverage some people don't need, like prostate exams for women and birth control for men, maternity benefits for senior citizens....you're kidding right?

I also don't think "medical appliances" (orthoedic devices like prosthetics) should be taxed, or did they waive that tax? I doubt it.

Why didn't they do something about the outrageous RX costs? Because of lobbyists, that's why. Why did Obamacare only allow certain healthcare providers use HSAs but deny other providers? I loved having an HSA but my provider was denied allowing it. So now I have to pay out of pocket.

I really think national healthcare is the - way to go

but since that won't fly with the pubs, this is the best option. Maybe the pubs could get with the dems and do some fixing of the ACA.

On the question about medicaid, I do not think it is the best option but it is better than having people uninsured. Also, the states that did not accept the expansion are the ones that are really hurting even with the exchanges, and those are republican states. I have a republican governor and he took it and we have quite a few options in the exchange and the deductibles are not astronomical.

Healthcare jobs have also increased since more people are insured now. This also puts more money in for taxes.
