Interesting Rolling Stone article

Fox News are doing a disservice to their watchers. They could at least TRY to mix in some truth amongst the anger-generating sensationalism. That way their viewers would not fail so miserably if asked questions about the real world. Yes, not opinion but fact, questions there are right and wrong answers to.

"It's not exactly a revelation that Fox News viewers are spectacularly ill informed about current events compared to people who watch other networks. But according to a recent report, the Fox audience knows less even than folks who don't watch any news at all.

Researchers from New Jersey's Fairleigh Dickinson University asked about a thousand people five questions on domestic issues (e.g., "Which party has the most seats in the House of Representatives right now?") and five on international ones (e.g., "There have been increasing talks about economic sanctions against Iran. What are these sanctions supposed to do?").

Fox viewers scored the lowest in both categories, getting an average of 1.04 questions right on domestic issues and 1.08 on international, behind people who watch MSNBC (which, on international affairs, also lagged the non-news watchers) The Daily Show, and the Sunday talk show viewers, as well as NPR listeners – the best informed audience – and, yes, people who don't "do" news.

"We expect that watching the news should help people learn, but the most popular of the national media sources seem to be the least informative," said Dan Cassino, professor of political science at FDU and analyst for the poll."

Fox is popular b/c older people watch the news - more and older folks tend to be Republican

I don't have TV, but if I did I certainly wouldn't watch the news. It sounds like torture to me. I know a lot of people my age DO watch the news, but most of them don't. They get their news from the internet. I do listen to BBC on the radio every day and sometimes NPR. And of course, there's the internet.

That's hysterical. You ought to watch the (sm) - Abby

clip above of Ben Carson - comparison - someone who hasn't read the book judging it - someone who doesn't have TV commenting on it.

Being as I was inundated with TV for a large - portion of my life,

I have every right to comment on it. I don't live in a cave, you know. Besides, my comment had nothing to do with the TV shows themselves, it was demographics, which are easily researched and don't require sitting in front of the boob tube for hours a day.

Was there something in my post that was not true? If so, you should really point it out.

Regarding Ben Carson, I really don't care about him or his book, so I have nothing to say regarding it.

I'm shocked that Fox viewers are misinformed - about international issues.

If not, he and the network must be awfully embarrassed.

What a joke! You take Rolling Stone seriously? - sm

That rag of a magazine, Rolling Stone, is about as reliable and impartial as TMZ and National Enquirer. I can't believe anyone actually reads that crap!

Um, no - Rolling Stone is a rock and roll mag mostly

[ In Reply To ..]
So basically they are not partial to anything or anyone.

The study they cited is not their opinion. It actually tested people on knowledge, and it was certainly not commissioned by Rolling Stone, they are just commenting on it.

It's a liberal rag, not mag. - LOL

:-)
It is a music magazine - first and foremost

And a political magazine, but not specifically liberal.

But the truth does have a liberal bias, I guess.

What Do You All Think About The Rolling StoneJul 17, 2013
I consider myself a pretty open-minded person, but this is just a bit too much for me. It's not that he's on the cover, it's that he could very well be mistaken for some rock icon. I find that pretty tasteless. I won't be buying this copy because I don't want his face in my house, but I am interested in reading the article. ...

An Interesting Article On The 2nd AmendmentMay 20, 2014
I think the key to the 2nd amendment is "well-regulated," though I assume none of us by any means represent a militia.  I also find it interesting that the original included an exception for conscientious objectors: In fact, the original version passed by the House included a conscientious objector provision. “A well regulated militia,” it explained, “composed of the body of the people, being the best security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arm ...
