[ In Reply To ..]it is important to employ a good estate planner long before Medicaid is needed with respect to long term care for the elderly. I just had to put my mother in a nursing home a year ago and, had she and Dad not put their property and money in my and my brother's names, when she passes, the State would take the property. In my state, all money and property must be deeded or signed over 5 years prior to going into a nursing home. This, in my state, does not apply to community Medicaid where an individual gets services for hospital, physician offices, and medications, however. If a person has too much property or money, they are denied for Medicaid.
