Insulin therapy beneficial to Alzheimer's patients

Posted: Sep 13, 2011

Intranasal insulin therapy appears to provide some benefit for cognitive function in patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer disease Funding for this study has been provided by the National Institute of Aging, the Nancy and Buster Alvord Endowment and the Department of Veterans Affairs. (the NIA is a division of the National Institute of Health, a government program, as is the DoVA). I wonder how many people realize that important studies like this are done by our FEDERAL government by dedicated, highly trained and educated people who are paid salaries and benefits. I am sure the private pharmaceuticals will now step in and try make a big buck out of this research. So many people want to do away with everything government, but seem to forget the research and protections it provides. I just thought it was time someone recognized this. http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2011-09/jaaj-sei090911.php;

for medical research. That will push us even further into the direction of a third-world country. Oh, well, I guess the rich need money more than humanity needs to find cures for diseases and the post you posted.

another drug therapy...More drugs, drugs, drugs to make the Big Pharma richer. Not that much to be proud of. Drugs never cure anything. Our best hope for all disease is at our dinner tables but you won't see the government researching that.

Diabetes And InsulinAug 05, 2012
I've had type 2 diabetes for around 20 years and have been moderately controlled on pills - eventually reaching the maximum daily doses of metformin and glyburide. Over the past few months, the numbers have been creeping up, and my doctor wanted to add a third drug. I've opted to start on long-acting insulin (Levemir), since I think insulin is actually healthier for the body than the pills. On the day I started the insulin, a week-and-a-half ago, my glucose was only 103 (very unus ...

Is It Aging Or Is It ADD Or Is It Alzheimer's?Jun 23, 2015
Do any of my fellow MTs have (or think you might have) ADD or ADHD?  I'm 60 and have been an MT for over 30 years.  I didn't "used" to have trouble concentrating.  I could whip out those reports with speed and accuracy.  These days, though, I find that my attention span goes on vacation several times a day.  Learning new programs takes twice the amount of time that it used to.  I have to read and re-read the instructions over and over again.  I looke ...

Anybody Coping With Living With A Parent With Alzheimer's?Jun 28, 2013
I moved mom in with me about a month ago.  I work second shift full time in my home.  Even before I moved mom in, I would see her daily in her home, see she was eating properly, setting her pills out, etc.  She recently had cataract surgery and recovered fine.  We've put her home up for sale and she's none too pleased but I thought she would adjust to living with me.  Our homes are similar, and I made her bedroom in my own look exactly like hers, bath ...

I'm considering this treatment in lieu of surgery and would appreciate any info you might have so I can make a more educated decision. Thanks so much. ...

Anybody Ever Pray For Patients?Apr 08, 2012
I do reports for a big hospital in the midwest and see a lot of cancer reports, anorexia, car accidents and sometimes I just feel so overwhelmed by it that I have to stop and pray for the people in the  report. I don't know if this helps them, but it makes me feel less depressed.  Anyone else do this?    ...

Medicare Patients...bringing This To The TopJan 06, 2010
In response to a post well below this..... http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2010/01/06/medicare_and_the_mayo_clinic/ Yes, fact is many places are not accepting Medicare patients and it will get worse. Obamacare Funding Running Low For Patients Feb 16, 2013
Tens of thousands of Americans who cannot get health insurance because of preexisting medical problems will be blocked from a program designed to help them because funding is running low. Obama administration officials said Friday that the state-based “high-risk pools” set up under the 2010 health-care law will be closed to new applicants as soon as Saturday and no later than March 2, depending on the state. But they stressed that coverage for about 100,000 people who are now enrolled ...

Medicare Fines Hospitals For Too Many Re-Admitted PatientsOct 01, 2012
Is this how Obamacare is going to "pay for itself?" What about those complications that are not the hospital's fault? How are they going to rate which complications are due to hospital care and which are due to patient noncompliance? I would think this is a really tough decision to make. _______________ WASHINGTONIf you or an elderly relative have been hospitalized recently and noticed extra attention when the time came to be discharged, there's more to it than good customer service. ...

Raising The Medicare Eligibility Age Would Cost Patients About Twice As Much,Dec 06, 2012
"When economists and policymakers worry about the long-term fiscal crisis, what they’re mostly worried about is Medicare. That’s why a persistent idea during this fiscal cliff season is raising the Medicare eligibility age from 65 to 67. It’s an idea that appears superficially to have many virtues. Bringing the Medicare retirement age into line with the Social Security retirement age seems logical. The change is simple to describe to journalists and the public."  & ...

Doctors Required To Ask Patients About Their Sexual HistoryOct 15, 2013
It'll be a cold day in hell before I tell ovomit and his satanic HHS director Sebelius anything about my sex life.  Doctors are now required to document in the health record how many sexual partners a patient has had.  I go back and forth between saying "Oh, maybe 37,000" and "none of the F-ing government's business."  Ovomit has gone past the point of no return with his total intent on turning America into a socialist or even communist country. http://politix.topix.com ...

Doctors Begin To Refuse ObamaCare PatientsAug 08, 2014
"Obamacare plans have shrunk payments t physicians so much that some doctors say they won’t be able to afford to accept Obamacare coverage.  Many of the 8 million sign-ups in Obamacare exchanges nationwide already face more limited choices for physicians and hospitals than those in the private insurance market. But with low physician reimbursement rates, the problem could get even worse." This is just ONE of many Obama headlines today.  Is anyone surprised? ...
