When trying to compete with the president whose - job description includes disaster management
[ In Reply To ..]
one might expect his challenger to try his best to project a presidential image. This does not mean ignoring well publicized requests for money and blood, not goods, for the sake of creating a camp stump photo-op. How the campaign handled the potential "image" problem of a half-full truck ought to tell you what that event was really all about. A re-read of Ryan's soup kitchen visit would provide further insight.
What I don't understand is why Romney didn't organize a fundraiser for the victims. Isn't that what he supposed to be so good at? He has no problem doing it on behalf of his own election, but when it comes to those who have lost everything, it's a different story.
Well, the lack of competence is my complaint too. - He wouldn't be a pretend president. nm

Mitt is not the president...yet...what exactly has O done for the survivors of this terrible storm. Food is VERY appropriate at this point. There have been many reports on the news from people who have no food. No stores are "open for business as usual." What stores there are, have been or are being looted as we speak and probably have little left on the shelves to feed the masses. and in so speaking....what are all you judgmental people doing to ease the aftermath of the survivors, other than making something political out of it! Get out there and help these people...open your hearts and your homes and help at least one person who needs a roof over their heads, some peaceful sleep, warm clothes, and yes...FOOD!!! you guys anger me to no end! like the above poster....shame!
These LIBS will politicize anything to try and - divert the failures of King of Kenya
[ In Reply To ..]
Obama's was to do NOTHING, campaign in Vegas while people were dumpster diving, shivering, had no clothes, some without shoes, no homes, NO FOOD. Romney was doing what King of Kenya should have ebeen doing.
But then, Obama is the same dillwad that watched 4 Americans murdered and did nothing and flew off to another fundraiser FOR HIS CAMPAIGN...then Obama's minions on here called the 4 deaths a non-issue.
Libs are a pathetic bunch at best. They all shoot their mouths off, but bet less than 1% on this board did anything to help those in need.
I think they are all racist.
Evidently you don't understand too much about - the power behind the pen.
[ In Reply To ..]
President Obama's signature on a piece of paper and a few well placed phone calls has the power to help those naked, shoeless, shivering dumpster divers, the homeless and hungry all at once. A couple of strokes of the pen and it's a done deal. It was time much better spent than collecting cans and diapers while trying to tell us to pay no attention to the cameras behind the curtains.

Got a clue how compounded they become in a disaster zone? Ever heard of competent disaster management? Romney's auditioning for the job but on this front all he can really manage is to get ridiculed clean out of the theater.
Obama suspended his campaign and did his job, a job he continues to do now that he's back on the trail. He didn't create a media blitz relative to being tone deaf to two simple Red Cross requests. He hopped on a plane and reassured the entire region that a rerun of Katrina and Ike are not in their futures. He put his boots to the ground and personally spoke and listened to people who have lost everything, hugged as many of them as he could. He projected strong and trustworthy leadership that both Governor Christie and the victims needed to see, especially considering what history shows us was not present in the previous administration. He then headed back to DC to stay on 24-hour standby to make sure red tape was cut to the bone during the rescue and initial recovery stages while making sure there were no obstacles for the cash flow pipeline to overcome. Simply put, he was the president. It's what he does.
Talk is cheap....It is STILL a rerun of Katrina - anon

This may come as a surprise to you, but it's the local and state governments responsibility to identify the hardest hit places and to apply for the assistance. While Bloomberg was trying to decide what to do about the marathon, I guess he missed the media's Staten Island memo. By contrast, Janet Napolitino was there the next morning, hence demonstrating yet one more promise President Obama kept when he said he would cut through the bureaucratic red tape.

help is needed. Help the people first and figure out the red tape later. Obama did nothing except visit the area and ask for votes. He could have physically done more, invite the hardest hit into the wh and give these people some comfort, not words. Words like, "if you vote for me, I will help." ha! some leader! Something like Sandy is bigger than both state and local govt. It is bigger than the federal govt. Address the problems first and then do the paperwork later. Pen pushers are not contributing anything and neither is Mr. Vote For Me. What an opportunist!
Christie doesn't seem to agree. A phone call or two - and it's a done deal.

that left the people down. The day before Katrina hit, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin issued a mandatory evacuation order. He also declared that the Superdome, a stadium located on relatively high ground near downtown, would serve as a “shelter of last resort” for people who could not leave the city. Almost 80 percent of the city’s population evacuated. Some 10,000 had sought shelter in the Superdome, while tens of thousands of others chose to wait out the storm at home.
Mike Brown spoke at a special congressional panel led by House Republican leaders to investigate the ineffective response to Hurricane Katrina. He claims that FEMA did its job well. He said Blanco was at fault for not formally ordering residents to leave the state until the night before the storm.
"My mistake was in [not] recognizing that, for whatever reasons ... Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco were [reluctant] to order a mandatory evacuation," said Brown during his testimony.
Bush first saw the devastation from the air on 9/2, then was on the ground 9/5, 9/15 and 9/16.
On 9/20, Nagin's decision to open New Orleans neighborhoods renewed tensions between local and federal officials over recovery efforts in the region.
Vice Admiral Thad Allen had been appointed to lead in the recovery efforts. Federal officials said it was too early for people to return to N.O. and Bush agreed even though some services were now available, like electricity and phone, the city was not safe because Hurricane Rita was on her way.
Mayor Nagin said the Vice Admiral Allen, who was recently appointed to lead the recovery from Hurricane Katrina, was acting like "the new crowned federal Mayor of New Orleans." Allen had said the water was still not drinkable and 911 service was not working. None of the area's 12 hospitals are open and it was folly to allow the people to return.

with even living in a different state than the affected ones, I have posted that I have opened my home to one or two people who need help and would like a roof over their heads, warmth, food, and peace in their hearts until the crisis is over. I don't have much myself due to being unemployed, but I am willing, with God's help, to provide something for these people. An act of kindness from one who totally understands their devastation.

I'm right here - IN THE MIDST OF IT ALL - and there are people who are hungry who would LOVE some canned food that they can't afford to buy any longer because any cash they had washed away, was stolen by looters, or is inaccessible due to no electric, so no ATM. How dare you criticize ANYONE trying to help rather than sitting on their fat, pot-stirring ass looking to cause trouble? You have no idea what we're going through here, and I'm overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and help that has poured in from throughout the country (thank you, everyone who contributed ANYTHING, btw) IN SPITE of people like you. Fortunately, people like you always get theirs one day - too bad we won't be around to see it ...
Canned food drive - Clueless?
[ In Reply To ..]
Guess what? The Red Cross probably uses some of the cash donations they receive to buy canned food. Grocery stores and homes were destroyed, people had no groceries and the food banks are probably depleted, many of them are low on supplies this time of year anyway. When you've lost everything, no donations or help are going to be turned away. If food is donated, at least one knows the money has been well spent. Speaking of clueless, maybe you need to look in the mirror.
Red Cross, beware of them and pink ribbons too. - anon

The Red Cross pockets most of the donations it receives. Mitt is a liar and the country will be no better off than with Obummer. One other note, all the pink everything we have seen through October is all a scheme too. The money never goes where they say it is and they exploit breast cancer victims. My Dad died of cancer over 50 years ago, where is "The Cure?"
