If the border situation isn't brought under control

Posted: Jun 11, 2014

Make no mistake.  The Cantor defeat last night was a wake-up call to ALL the politicians who think they'd like to push immigration reform while the absolute calamity on the border goes unchecked.

Republicans who cave to amnesty will suffer, but no less so than Democrats who mistakenly believe that Americans don't care about the influx of illegals along the southern border.

What happened to Cantor wasn't a "Republican" thing.  It was a response to the catastrophe that is just beginning on our southern border.  It isn't Republicans who should take notice, but Democrats.

Huge wake up call for them.

I'm not sure why securing the border is such a problem. - ZvilleMT

I guess except for those who want open borders, but I would think they're in the minority.

I haven't heard anyone suggest that we just pack up all the illegals and send them back where they came from, but the problem is we keep granting amnesty and doing nothing to keep more illegals from coming in. It seems every 10 or 15 years, we keep having the same discussion - we give amnesty in exchange for border security, but the border security never happens. Repeat. And it's not the politicians that suffer - it's the American people and those from other countries who are trying to come here legally and end up having to wait years and years.

Why is it so bad to want to secure our borders?

It's crystal clear our government wants open borders. It's much - much - easier to take a country down when the majority of people living in it are illegal aliens, not to mention drug addicts, dropouts, those graduating from high school but severely under-educated, people more concerned about getting tattoos and piercings than the direction our country's going (which is DOWN), the economy so horrendous some people work multiple jobs and barely have time to watch the news, etc.
No need to send in troops or bomb a country when you can just fill it with the majority being idiots and others kept in a drug stupor. Easy pickins'! And the sad news is: It's working!

I disagree - sm

This was one conservative pocket of America in a very conservative district who was whipped up by the conservative media. The grassroots conservatives turned out and they were heard. This was a Republican Primary in a conservative district.

Democrats don't want to see children piling up in warehouses along the border. They want a sensible, humanitarian approach to the issue of immigration and offer a path to citizenship.

Slamming the door and just saying no to any stab at immigration reform is not what the Democrats will ever accept and neither will the American people. Democrats will not suffer.

The Republican Party is circling the wagon now, tightening ranks, and each side (TP vs GOP) is firming up strategies and power plays. Cantor went on TV just a few minutes ago resigning his leadership position and "naming" his successor. We'll see what the TP has to saw about that...

I don't even see how we get to Democrats will suffer until the Republican Party's drama and implosion ever ends. Meanwhile the Democratic Party also closes ranks in solidarity and gets stronger.

JMO, of course, but the VA congressional race in Nov should be interesting considering the profiles of both candidates, but that's for another discussion.

The more illegal aliens we let in (give free medical care, free obamaphones, food stamps, jobs, welfare, etc., the more votes for the Obamas, Clintons, etc. They need the aliens!

All these illegal aliens are also a boon for the Catholic church!

Wow, just wow! - sm

Free phones? The free phones are a program called the Lifeline program. The Lifeline program originated in 1984, during the Ronald Reagan administration. It was expanded in 1996 during the Bill Clinton administration. Its first cellular provider service, SafeLink Wireless, was launched by TracFone in 2008, during the administration of George W. Bush. All passed prior to the Obama administration.

States rights decide on most of that other stuff you listed, so are you advocating we do away with states rights, those pesky things that our Constitution guarantees us?

Illegal aliens can't vote, and the Democrats don't need them anyway to beat the fractured and hemorrhaging Republicans for the White House (see 2008, 2012 elections).

The last time I checked it, the Constitution still contained the First Amendment, and the Catholic church was protected under it, just like whatever church you belong to.
Yeah, wow - maybe you missed these facts - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Harry Reid and democrats seek to repeal/change/alter the first amendment. So there blows your last statement.

Democrats are in the process of legalizing the illegals, so there blows the paragraph in your post.

We don't need to see 2008, 2012 or 2004, 2000 elections or any of them before then. A lot has changed since the last election and tea party and republicans are winning. Democrats blew it and the factions within the democrat party are imploding on themselves in full blown panic as it does not look good for this this election.

Oh yeah, and Obama is giving the illegals free phones to vote, so there blows that little theory of yours.
Wow, just wow! - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Notwithstanding Article V of the United States Constitution, your paragraph 3 "blows" (your word, not mine) your own paragraph 1.

Your paragraph 3 also "blows" your paragraph 2.

Democrats blew it? Let me tell you how bad the Republicans blew it. Republicans blew it so bad that they've spent the last 5+ years trying to make the Democrat in office out to be as bad as the last guy, and believe me, that is going to take some doing. Still, Republicans blew it so bad that Obama was elected twice.

In what state does a free phone (or any phone for that matter) give you the right to vote?
Ahhhhhh....wellllllll...since you asked.... - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I stand by my statements of fact that the person I replied to was wrong in what she wrote. When I wrote the word "blows" what that meant was there is proof otherwise, hence what she wrote was wrong. Personally, in my opinion, when I come across information that is wrong I just don't find it credible, but that's just me.

Yeah, democrats blew it. The republicans and tea party members are winning and moving ahead. Not going to "take some doing". Already been done. Look at the support across the country for the tea party members and people jumping ship from the democrats. Even if you didn't want to believe that the simple fact is the democrat politicians are in panic, hence the constant attacks on conservatives and tea party people, constant lies and event after event after event to take the focus off of the previous scandal.

Oh, and since you asked:

Phones to vote:

A phone is not a birth certificate or right to vote. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
"Oh yeah, and Obama is giving the illegals free phones to vote, so there blows that little theory of yours."

My "little theory" happens to be a fact. A phone (regardless of cost) cannot somehow give any illegal in this country a right to vote.

If that's what you're worried about, you can relax because it's not true.
You didn't even read the article. That is exactly what it says - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Here's the fact. This is according to the article, not what you want it to be. Not your theory or my theory. You believe believe what you want to believe and I will know what I know. I will not change your mind and you certainly will not change mine. So...with that said, this is what the article says. Since by your post I can tell you did not read it.

"Illegal aliens now quite possibly can call a toll free government number, 1-800-259-0957, to get a free “Obama Phone.” The program, conventionally known as Safe Link Wireless, is available to those are on food stamps or Medicaid. Applying for work permits that give them drivers’ licenses provides illegals proof of identity. With that, they enter America’s entitlement class and even become enabled to vote in our elections — for Democrats, of course."

What that means is illegals call a government number (toll free) to get the Obama phone. The program is called Safe Link (yes, trust me, there really is a program called Safe Link). With the free Obama phone they then apply for work permits that gives them drivers licenses, which provides illegals with proof of identity in which they can then vote.

So in fact what you are saying is not true. The article just stated otherwise. The article states that the phone gives them the means to be able to get the paperwork they need to be able to vote. Nobody needs a birth certificate to vote (not even legal US citizens). Don't even know what hat you pulled that out of.

What you wrote is not fact, its what you want to think is fact.

I'm just stating facts and posting the necessary information to back that up. I just provide the information. I don't "worry".

And if I was any more relaxed I'd be asleep.
Okay, well. - sm

As I already posted in my previous post, the program is called the "Lifeline program." The Lifeline program originated in 1984, during the Ronald Reagan administration. It was expanded in 1996 during the Bill Clinton administration. Its first cellular provider service, SafeLink Wireless, was launched by TracFone in 2008, during the administration of George W. Bush. All passed prior to the Obama administration."

You stated: "The article just stated otherwise. The article states...."

Okay, look. If you believe everything you read in an article, that's...... okay, ummmm, okay. Well....

Notwithstanding what the article says, the facts are: To be eligible to vote, you must be a U.S. citizen, and that is all the states. In most states, you must be 18 years old to vote, but some states do allow 17 year olds to vote. I can't speak for all the states, but in the state I live, you can't vote without proper ID or get a driver's license, which requires proof of United States citizenship. In order to prove citizenship, you provide proof, with a birth certificate being first on the list.

You stated: "Nobody needs a birth certificate to vote (not even legal US citizens). Don't even know what hat you pulled that out of."

You have to be a U.S. citizen to vote in this country, and you have to prove it in my state with ID in order to be able to vote, that ID cannot be obtained without proving citizenship or lawful presence documents, and the hat I pulled that out of is under the link.
I think some of this information is incorrect - sm

From your post: "With the free Obama phone they then apply for work permits that gives them drivers licenses, which provides illegals with proof of identity in which they can then vote. "

Proof of identity is not proof of citizenship. Two completely different things. Proof of identity does not translate into voting rights. Not sure where you got this, but you might want to dig a little deeper and research rather than listen to the machine.
What about states where you don't have to show - ID to vote?

[ In Reply To ..]
I guess it is now official. People read some of the craziest stuff and believe it.

It takes a 2/3 vote in both the House AND the Senate to amend the Constitution (joint resolution). After that, it takes 2/3 of the states to ratify that (38/50). The POTUS has no role in amending the Constitution in any way, shape, or fashion.

So relax. None of these guys in either party will ever get a 2/3 majority to do anything (at least not any time soon, IMO).
It takes one person to write an executive order - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Yeah, reading your post that's what I thought too. People read some of the craziest stuff and believe it.
The Constitution cannot be amended by Executive Order - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Add to that, if laws regarding immigration and amnesty could be changed by Executive Order, believe me when I tell you that George W. Bush would have legalized approximately 12 million illegals in 2007.

So relax. It's not possible. Executive Orders are limited, but the president does get to use them. Nothing new with Obama. It's been going on for centuries, and it won't stop anytime soon. No matter who is in the White House.
Thanks for all you posted. It amazes me how the truth, the facts - and the history
