I don't know what I believe anymore

Posted: Nov 10, 2012

Okay, I don't want to make this long, but if it is please bear with me, but I will not feel like going back and editing it.

I am going to post a link below that I found to be interesting, and I hope you'll read and let me know what you think about it.  It is really making me think twice about politics.  I was raised in neither republican or democrat household.  I have no idea who my parents or grandparents supported.  Later in life as an adult I learned my mom was republican and my dad was democrat (no they were not James Carvel and Mary Matalin)  LOL

In my life I have voted I think equally between democrat and republican presidents and some elections I didn't vote when I didn't feel strong enough for one or the other.  I don't agree with what has happened the last three years (actually the last 23 years- since Regan let me put it).  Think our country is headed in the wrong direction and things are so bad I keep wondering if it will ever get better.  I see (and please don't anyone take this the wrong way because I am not writing this in an insulting way), but I have seen the country heading in a more socialist state.  Please don't ask me to pinpoint one thing down, maybe Obamacare would be it, but other aspects too.  But as I am not a person of eloquent words I never get involved in political discussions either with family or friends for fear of looking like a real idiot :-)

So, I have to say I feel I am a republican because of fiscal issues (economic wise), but I feel like I am a democrat because of war issues and social issues like gay marriage, and I feel like I am an independent because of anything that doesn't fall into the other two categories.

While in this election I was not thrilled with any of the candidates I voted because I believe I am a proud republican.  I felt Romney was the better candidate and would do a better job than what we have had.  I will tell you the night of the election I was depressed.  I sat stunned at what had happened.  Everything leading up to the election showed Romney ahead (several different places, not just one).  I was screaming cheater, liar, and every other name I could think of.  All of a suddent the Gore/Bush election was coming to mind and I realized I now knew how the democrats felt in that election.  Please posters I also don't want to hear how you feel Obama won fairly.  There was way too much fraud going on, and when other countries and our own bankers were celebrating the Obama win at 1:00 in the afternoon here in CST I realized that the election was bought, but with my strong religous belief's I have to believe everything is for a reason and this is what God wants.  Whether or not I agree or disagree is besides the point.  All I know is whoever was chosen I hope things get better for all Americans.  Our country needs to grow because everything we do also affects what happens in other countries, so I just want it to get better for everyone.

So...the next day as the dust started to settle my SO was talking to me.  She said did you know this about Romney, did you know this about Obama.  Do you know they all have laws they have to follow and they don't do things on their own.  Do you know who the players are and who the pitbulls are (what that meant I don't know - LOL).  So, I kept searching to see if what I have believed all along was wrong and I'm finding a lot of what I've believed my whole life is a lie.  I'm not saying the republicans or the democrats lied to me, I'm saying my interpretation of what they said was wrong on a lot of issues (again with both democrats and republican).  One thing that is still true though is they always acuse the other side of doing the same thing they are doing.

In amongst my searches I came across this website that I found interesting and I wanted to share it.  It's called Republicans for Obama.  I'm not here to change anyone's mind on anything, I'm just sharing a website I found cos I thought it was interesting and  I had never seen it.  I have not read through the whole thing but will this weekend.  I am interesting in reading what republicans who agree with what Obama has done have to say, just like I'd be interested to read what some democrats who disagree with what Obama has done have to say.  I haven't found the latter yet.  I still don't like a lot of people he is putting in power, some are downright scary, but I will try and focus on issues ane what they mean for me and my family.

There is so much arguing and anger on this board (on both sides), so please if you don't agree with this it will be one of those we will have to agree to disagree.  I'm not saying I've turned democrat, but I will be more open to issues (although I've always been open about issues).  If anyone has any other websites they would like to share that gets me thinking about issues more and more in a fair way, I'd love to read them

Thanks for listening,

Just call me discombobulated. :-)

Do you know who wrote the article - Obama Campaign !! Only 5 comments

made regarding the article. I would be leary of trusting an article written and put out on the internet by the Obama Campaign to be middle of the line. Am not criticizing you at all, just making sure you realize where the article came from. Good luck to you sorting your beliefs out.

Why do you say this came from the Obama campaign? - the web site does not

The web site above lists the Republican officers and supporters which I would guess you could research. There are certainly Republicans for Obama, General Powell the most respected. I recall 4 years ago when my nephew announced that he "had it all wrong all these years" and was no longer voting Republican. It was like a light switch was turned on for him and he finally understood the "safety net", how economics is driven by a strong middle class for "demand and supply" not cheap supply and no demand. That "trickle down" had not worked and never will. I think you have to take each issue that is important to you and find out what "actions" have been done that support your issue. That is why Romney lost. He would say what people wanted to hear, but he his actions and even his words did not support his latest positions. Many issues are much more complex than what they appear to be on the surface. Rachel Maddow on MSNBC is a brilliant explainer of issues. She uses facts and is entertaining. She points out the BS. Even if you don't agree with her, she is worth watching to understand the layers of complexity that drive policies.

I know because, I am from N.C. - Approached, asked ?s

You are right, I should not have used the word "written" as it probably was written by Judd, however, the group gets it monetary support from the Obama Campaign.

Nonetheless, I live in N.C. where this group of originally established and was approached to join, I asked many questions and researched greatly.

Since I am an "Undeclared" registered N.C. voter, it makes me a prime candidate to approach to swing to one side or the other.

I'm impressed that you're setting out to learn and willing - and able to change your mind. Personally,

if I'm not actually glued in place, I am nevertheless fully familiar with the discomfort, even anxiety, of finding out I've been wrong about something I've believed true for some time.

As for your being pretty middle-of-the-road, basically conservative economically and more liberal on social issues, but choosing positions and candidates on a case-by-case basis, that actually puts you in the largest, best educated, and in my mind by far most sensible and responsible voter group. Formal label not needed.

Please just keep voting. This last quarter century might not have been nearly so bad if more sensible people had stepped up to do their duty once every couple of years.

I agree. I applaud your open-mindedness, discombobulated. - grits

I think we, as a country, would be a lot better off if more of us would shrug off the labels and preconceived notions and do as you're doing.

You sound a lot like my husband, actually. I've mentioned before that this was the first election in our lives that we didn't cancel each other's vote. (As an aside, I've never had anything but respect for Colin Powell, even when he was working for the party I wasn't aligned with).

Is It Just Me? I Just Don't Care About Any Of This Anymore. -smSep 02, 2013
I'm not close enough to retirement to retire, I am not making enough money working 2 jobs to pay my bills, but I just can't work up any concern for it.  If I lose my jobs I don't know what I'll do but I remain completely disinterested.  I may actually be depressed although I don't feel it.  Any thoughts? ...

Grocery List Anymore? Dec 02, 2009
More and more, people seem to just use cell phones at the store instead of using a list. We were at Krogers a little while ago, and encountered at least 20 people on cell phones while shopping, asking what to get, etc. All ages too, from teens to the elderly. Drives me nuts!!! ...

Can't Stand The View Anymore...is It Just Me?Jan 14, 2011
I don't know about you, but I think it's time for some changes on The View.  I think it's time for Joy and Barbara to go.  I like Barbara, but she has gotten a little to intrusive and interrupts too much, and goes on and on redundantly.  Joy...well, all she does is bash people.  It's funny how she calls herself a comedienne, but she's actually not.  Very few comedians left these days in my opinion....Ellen, Seinfeld, can't think of another&# ...

I Don't Need Anymore Bosses Bossing MeOct 19, 2012
I have had "bosses" cutting my wages and lettiing me "purchase" health insurance plans that basically don't pay for anything I need, all the while they outsource the work and give themselves bonuses for being so profitable.  So, now Romney is telling "the bosses" that it is okay and not illegal to tell your employees how to vote.  A couple of the richest Republican contributors, the Koch Brothers, sent their employees a list of people to vote for, or else they could "su ...

Our Democracy Is Not Working AnymoreNov 01, 2016
I am amazed how lies and innuendo can possibly steal an election.   1.  FBI director coming out and saying there might be a problem (but has not even seen the e-mails). 2.  The Birther's who wanted to disenfranchise our country's first black president.  3.  The Swiftboaters throwing manure on a Vietnam vet, Kerry.    (Makes me think of Trumps 'bone spur' that kept him out of the draft and Trump saying he doesn't like vets who get cau ...

This show and judges are such a bore now.  The judges say the same predictable stuff.  Its nothing without Simon.  ...and they love James Durbin, but when he screams that high note, its horrible... horrible.  My friend who teaches music noticed this too.  Listening to him on a CD would be painful.  Why cant people just sing well and that be good enough?  Its all about theatrics, screaming, being different, etc.  I used to love watching Idol.  I am don ...

Democrats’ Talking Points: We Can’t Pass Legislation Anymore, Despite MajorityJan 21, 2010
By Raw StoryWednesday, January 20th, 2010 -- 3:24 pm Democrats have conceded they can no longer pass healthcare on their own, ensuring that their key legislative reform either dies or accepts further compromises to gain approval from Republican members. What's more, they've decided to outline their case to the public through a set of talking points issued to Democrats after Tuesday's election upset in Massachusetts. Their meme? "It is mathematically impossible for Democrats to ...
