As you know, she has a new diagnosis with Alzheimer's and am getting her started on coconut oil, well coconut oil gelcaps, as that was what was available at the store at the time. Anyway, not a moment too soon. Just needed to vent a little. Where to start! SHE GAVE ALL HER CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FROM ME AWAY!!!! Her greatest need at this time was warm winter sweaters, sweatshirts, layering pieces like turtlenecks and long-sleeved Tees to wear underneath, as her stay-at-home things were getting pretty ratty. Hubby and I went to the mall on black Friday and I spent a good amount of time picking out about a dozen nice things for her, taking advantage of the sales and using a credit card. Nice expensive stores, too. We had also gone to Walmart late on Thanksgiving Day and I had found her a special deal on a track suit for 6 bucks and some warm, fuzzy socks too, everything to keep her comfortable all winter. She really seemed to love unwrapping all the presents too, but just left them sitting in a chair in the living room for days. Finally, she said to hubby, "Isn't Donna going to put her Christmas presents away?" He reminded her that they were for her, not Donna. She then proceeded to go upstairs and "clean out her closet to make room for all the new clothes," coming downstairs with a huge bagful of things. We thought nothing of it, because she said she had old clothes from a long time ago when she had weighed a lot more and also that she had some things given to her that she had never worn. Instead of taking them to the thrift shop, she gave them to her sister to pick through, as her sister wears a size medium too. Now every time I see her sister, the sister is wearing one of the new sweaters that I had custom-picked out for MIL. She looks very nice in them, but @#$%^!!! I just was not sharp enough to keep ahead of the dementia to avoid this! The only solution is to say nothing to anyone around her that would get back to either one of them because it is not their fault. Oy. I have gone upstairs and snuck in her closet, and all the gifts are gone. I really hope the coconut is going to help her make some new memories soon. Thank you for listening.
